One post referred to 6/9 as the "old" notation and requested that Frank
change to the "new" 9/6 notation. I decided to check which version is
earliest. The only information I have about how pros notated it is from
Frank. None of the old pros' analyses and strategies were ever published
until Frank's great book last year, so let's look at the early publications.
Stanford Wong's "Professional Video Poker" (1988) refers to it as
"9-6-1000 Jacks or Better." It puts the 9 first, but with a hyphen
rather than a slash.
Lenny Frome's "Expert Video Poker for Las Vegas" (1989) refers to
"full-pay 9/6 machines" and "8/5 progressives."
There were a couple earlier magazine articles by David Sklansky, et al,
but I don't have a copy of any of them. If anyone knows how those
articles notated the payoffs, please post it here (if they even used any
such notation).
Lacking anything to the contrary, it appears that "9/6" has always been
the most consistent in print, so I'm adding my request for Frank to
adopt the most commonly accepted notation, putting the higher payoff first.
