The last time I asked for a comp there, I was explicitly told that
because I was ahead, I wouldn't get any.

[vpFREE] Win a Car . . . . Take a Hike!

I know two players who won a car at Southpoint casino last May.  They both had their players card privileges revoked this month.

[vpFREE] RE: Advanced Tax question: Not the basics

In general, if you had $10,000 in W-2G winnings but were able to offset that with a $10,000 itemized deduction for gambling losses, your taxes could still increase.  There are a lot of deductions and credits that are based on adjusted gross income and this is going to increase by $10,000 even if you can deduct the losses.  The increase in AGI might reduce or eliminate certain other deductions and credits.

For example, I got very lucky last year and hit 5 royal flushes for $20,000 in W-2G income.  As a result, instead of my student loan interest being almost fully deductible, it won't be deductible at all.  This isn't costing me a lot, maybe about $200, but in theory these wins can cost you a great deal of money in extra tax, even if you made no profit or had a net loss and can itemize all of your winnings

Now if this $10,000 was really your only income, after itemizing you would have zero taxable income and no tax.  As someone else said, if you were single and no one could claim you as a dependent, you would have a $6,100 standard deduction and $3,900 exemption, so you would pay no tax even if you won $10,000 and were able to keep it all.

[vpFREE] RE: Limo Questions

I suggest you not consider less than $15 for your limo driver.  Considering that he needs to be in place about 15 minutes early, in the event of an early arrival, I wouldn't be surprised if as much as 2 hours of his day is allocated to your pickup.

He's authorized to pick you up.  Hard to say how he's likely to react to tagalongs, but be prepared to be refused.

All things considered, are you sure you wouldn't be happier dealing with the shuttle?

[vpFREE] Limo Questions

The limo would be from the airport to Bally's Las Vegas.  My understanding is that $10 is the minimum, my host said I should tip $15-$20.  The airport isn't really very far away, I could see the larger tip if I was able to get a comped limo between where I live and the airport, which is about 15 miles away and frequently traffic.  It seems like a lot considering that the shuttle is $7, and I never minded taking that when I wasn't renting a car.  I actually once took 2 buses for $1 or whatever the fare was at the time, but that was a bit of an ordeal with suitcases.  This may seem a little vindictive, but even if I was tempted to save a few dollars and just take the shuttle, with all the cutbacks from CZR (this is for 80,000 tier points in 2013, probably my first and last free trip), I want them paying for the limo whether I really want it or not.

Anyway, my question is, can I share the limo with others who I'm not traveling with?  I'm going to be on a plane from JFK where everyone is going to Vegas, so if I found some people going to Bally's or Paris, I'm thinking I can have them chip in, they'll get a nice ride, and it probably will cost them less than a cab.  If I found 3 people we can each chip in $5 and give the driver $20, then I'll feel good that I saved $2 over the shuttle, still got a nice limo ride, gave the driver a decent tip, and I'll be happy that CZR had to pay for it.  Also, if I found some people to share the ride who were going to a different casino that was nearby, am I allowed to do that?  Is CZR specifically paying for a ride between point A and point B?  Or it it for a specified minimum time period and if they don't go over the time limit they can drive wherever I tell them to?  Or do they just charge CZR for the extra time and CZR can't do anything about it (meaning they wouldn't touch my comps either)?  Keep in mind that I'm not going to be playing their lousy VP pay tables (except with free play coupons), so they won't want to do anything extra for me.  I don't want to tell people not going to Bally's or Paris that they can come in the limo and then find out that they really can't, as that would be rude and embarrassing.

Wonder if I could do the same going back?  I would assume there would be people waiting for cabs near where the limo is.  Does it matter if they're not going to the same terminal?

[vpFREE] Re: Hitting royals decreases free play offers?

I'm with you, wrx.   Many of my trips with RFs were still losers!  And I have been totally no mailed after an 8 month losing streak (6 trips) last year.  My host says it's because my ADT has dropped.  But I'm not getting lower offers, I'm getting ZERO offers.

<< Sorry to disagree. I find it VERY easy to do this!!!!!! >>

I suggest that the great majority of players don't put in remotely close
to as many hours of VP as the Queen of Comps. For most, I think it
would be true that they'd be very unlikely to be behind at an individual
casino for the past six months or a year, right after hitting a royal flush.

This does assume that the player didn't get the royal flush while
playing at much smaller stakes than usual, or on a multiline game, over
about three play at any rate.

Let me put this back in context. This came up in a discussion of
players complaining of the quality of mail going right into the trash
can, after hitting a royal flush. I suggested that the decline in mail
was probably a result of the players no longer being losers, rather than
being in response specifically to the royal flushes. So it would be
fair to ask those players--what was your cumulative win or loss for the
last six to twelve months, when your offers dried up?

[vpFREE] Re: CONUNDRUM

At Borgata in Atlantic City which is operated by Boyd, I have had player cards expire.  They also track the number of active cards & require new ones to be issued.  The new ones look the same as the old ones with the same account number printed on them, but the card reader knows the difference.  I don’t know if this practice is common to other casinos.

It's possible, but unlikely, as they were in 4 different locations, and (apparently) they were the only ones affected

The Max Casino has a new manager (again).  All point multipliers were cancelled for the rest of the month.  February local mailers were not sent out either.

[vpFREE] XVP -- Why Spirit Airlines is screwed up

I looked on the Spirit Airlines website for travel DTW--LAS 5/31/14 to 6/4/14 and found a reasonable fare of $240 ( not including all the fees). Then I saw their pop up for adding a hotel. I took a look at their prices. All are total price ( without taxes) based on double occupancy:

Excalibur -- $2200
Monte Carlo -- $6500
Palms -- $7200
Trump -- $10,000
Cosmo -- $26,000

These are for standard rooms. I also looked at rental cars and the price was between $1000 and $2000 for the 4 days.

Either Spirit is adding a zero on the end of the actual hotel price or is hoping people from other countries have no idea of US currency. The prices listed are crazy.
