[vpFREE] GVR and South Point trip report.

Arrived from Boston on 1/30/13.
Went to GVR probably for the last time for one night. Collected $150 FP and "6X" point multiplier. Receive mailer every 2 months. Our last mailer was rcvd in November for both December and January. But we received no Feb/March mailer in January and thought maybe lost in mail. (More on this later.)

Wednesday is half price on food for seniors as long as you use your point so food comp not important. Did very well on $1 Super Double Bonus. Up over ~$4K thanks to wonderful quad run. This is on top of our last trip in November where we were up ~$4K thanks to FPDDB royal (See where this is heading?

Drove to Laughlin Aquarius next day for 4 nights. Brain fart and forgot to cash our GVR tickets. (We were able to collect $200 FP for January and $200 FP for Feb but not enough. We go every trip as like Laughlin area and ride is beautiful. Had to go to bank of america (twice) in Bullhead City and left down $3K but still had $4K in tickets at GVR to pick up. (Here it comes).

Cash tickets and went to kiosk checked offers for Feb and it said: "You have NO current offers." Sigh, converted our remaining points for Grand Cafe pastry's; looked up in VPFREE an alternate location for our SDB Vegas fix ((on the smartphone (amazing)) and found South Point has a bunch. SP like GVR is also close the airport and work's just as well for an arrival casino. Gave them $15K action losing ~$1K before we left for final 2 nights at MSS where lost another ~$1K and came home down ~$1K. (I can confirm what TabbyCat posted a couple of weeks ago; GVR hates winners.

South Point day trip was a lot of fun. Lot's of FPVP; nice casino; easy highway access; saw Bob Dancer mug on Marquee at their showroom for upcoming seminar. And the joint gives .3% FP. Nice.
Hope we get offers for room and board. The rooms look nice with those floor to ceiling windows. We will be back.
Goodbye GVR.

[vpFREE] Re: DHS still gives red light to Java

The wizard's tools are in Java. Maybe he would care to volunteer as to whether or not he's been hacked yet?

OTOH, something's going on with Oracle's Java per the Fed's who appear to believe it's not enough and you should still disable Java. Maybe there just pushing them hard. This is useful information but lies on the fringe of how it affects VP so think it should be XVP.

Re: [vpFREE] ultimate x

You can practice it for free at videopoker.com. Unfortunately, the training
mode feature is disabled for Ultimate X.

[vpFREE] Re: Boyd Hosts let go.

FWIIW, some time ago (more than a couple months) a picture and name "Steffi Chen" suddenly appeared on my "home page" at B-Connected. I've never spoken with any hosts at Gold Coast, that I remember. Her picture and name are still there.

During our last visit to Gold Coast, about 2 weeks ago, a man stopped at my wife's machine, asking her "how things were going?". He gave her a business card, Joseph Dail.

[vpFREE] Palms - some observations from a recent trip

Some thoughts on the Palms:
Hey guys , after staying there last Thurs and Friday here are some thoughts.
a. Check in - Always check and double check the non-service oriented front desk clerks and bill. For example , when I checked in for a 2 nights comped offer plus $100 in free play, I was told that the computer said it was only 1 night, and I would be charged $190 plus $20 resort fee for Friday night. Well , I mentioned politely that it was a mistake and showed the clerk my offer ( note - when dealing with the Palms always have offers with you or email proofs ). She refused to call over a host to verify, but rudely asked me to "do it yourself, the office is that a way ". Much to the Palms credit, the host on duty did correct the mistake and I ended up with 0 charges for both nights.
b. Room - The remodeled premier guestrooms are nice but small. My room had a spilt glass of wine in the shower, and the drain backed up while taking a shower. So, I'm going to guess these were cosmetic changes rather than a complete overhaul.
c. Casino - A lot of open spaces , and the noise level was down. The only exception was the testing of the Rain sound system which is going to reopen soon. During the testing , it sounded like a 747 was in the room - everybody was holding their ears. This only lasted about 30 minutes with random noise blast outs. Since Rain is next to the high roller VP area, expect blast outs.
d. Restaurants - This was bad as 2 of the mid point restaurants ( little Buddha or whatever its going to be called, and Garduno's were closed ). The good news was that the fortunes and 24/7 cafe were having constant player club specials where you could have a decent lunch or dinner for way under $20. Your room key does get you free admission to Moon and Ghostbar which are fun places if $5 cokes and $10 beers are your thing. The food court is excellent. Did you know you can get a "senior coffee" at Mcdonald for only 59C which is actually better and bigger than the drink service one.
e. Buffet - Vastly improved. On the first day there a convention was at the casino and the buffet line waiting was close to 45 minutes. On Friday the wait was less than 10.
f. Gambling - ok, so there are 3 types of VP which adds to the confusion ...normal points ( NP ) , half points ( HP) and quarter points ( QP). As far as I could tell the machines are well marked.
QP - all 10/7 Db, 10/6 ddb if part of a 10/7 machine, 9/6 jacks if part of a 10/7 machine
HP - 10/6 ddb stand alone machines, Nsud, 99.0 jokers, 99.2 loose deuce. Not sure why on earth the loose deuce and jokers are HP's. they should be NP's.
NP - most jacks, bonus which include 2C 50 play machines, 5/10 play quarter machines

other NP VP:
1. Multistrike - they took out the 7/5 super aces and replaced these with Ugly Ducks as their best game. This was bizarre in the fact that they are both 98.99% rated games.
2. Ultimate X - The best game is 9/6 DDB game ( 99.86 ) which is only full pay at 10 play 50C or $50 a shot. Using my rule of 60 for this type of game , I would use a $3000 session bankroll to feel confident at beating them. In my opinion a better option for those with smaller bankrolls is the triple play 50C 7/5 bonus ( 99.3) which for the rule of 40 [ because this is a lower volatility game compared to DDB ] requires only $600. Wizard has this strategy published.
3. Three way action - this is one of the most popular games here, and its rated at 99.3. Wizard has a strategy

Conclusion: You need to keep your wits about you, but all in all I was pleased with the Palms. With the recent persecution of comps and full pay machines at former favorite Stations Casinos, Palms is now a competitor for my dollar. Also its a 2 minute walk across the street to the Gold Coast which has excellent full pay video poker.
