Coach is there almost every week.

Sorry, but anyone inclined to dissect Coach V's trip reports is missing the forest for the trees ...
The beauty of Coach's tales in simply in the telling (and the emotional charge he and Hedy continue to get out of most every good hit ;)
It doesn't take much to infer that Coach & Hedy see their share of hard runs ... he just doesn't choose to dwell on them. Frankly, I find that pretty refreshing!
Coach takes us on a fun ride most every run through the casino (and omits the minutia, for his accountant to sort through later ;).

[vpFREE] Re: 7* Event Invitation
We share your frustration, Coach.
It's looking increasingly unlikely that we'll book in from Atlanta, even if an attractive offer should rear its head. (In absence of offer details, we've gone ahead with attractive bookings in Tahoe and LV for the prior 2 weekends.)

Well, we've got a lot of mathematically-inclined people here... so we could probably take a stab at it... but we'd need to know what Coach's coin-in was for the weekend. Without that it's a shot in the dark.
We don't know how many 4OAKs Coach got, because he uses the arbitrary phrase "hit a quad here and there". But we do know that he scored Aces without a kicker at least once, 2s with a kicker three times, Aces with a kicker twice, and a Royal. We know there are at least three sets of "regular" quads, so for the purpose of estimating, let's stay conservative and say he hit only three. But wait... one of those Aces with kicker was dealt, as was one of the 2s with kicker. Hmm...
Wizard of Odds gives us the following per-hand analysis:
4OAK(nk) avg 1:613
AAAA(nk) avg 1:5,761
2222(k) avg 1:6,983
AAAA(k) avg 1:16,236
Royal avg 1:40,799
Dealt 2222(k) avg 1:54,145
Dealt AAAA(k) avg 1:216,580
Since Coach is 7* and from the frequency of his trip reports appears to go about once every two weeks, that's 26 trips per year. Since he plays video poker, that's a minimum $1m coin-in requirement, or about $40k/trip. The trip report lists $0.50 and $2.00 machines I believe, so let's average them to $1.25 x 5 credits = $6.25/spin. 40000/6.25 = 6,400 hands.
I'm going to ignore the 4OAK number since we don't know how many he really got. That means in 6,400 hands, the odds of hitting those numbers would be:
Qty 1 AAAA(nk) 1.11:1
Qty 2 2222(k) 1:2.17
Qty 1 AAAA(k) 1:2.56
Qty 1 Royal 1:6.25
Qty 1 Dealt 2222(k) 1:8.33
Qty 1 Dealt AAAA(k) 1:33.33
Of course all of these numbers could be totally incorrect based on coin-in, strategy changes, denominations played, etc.
Someone more mathematically-inclined than me should be able to figure out the overall odds of this outcome given the number of hands estimated played.
Yes, I'm bored, and no, these numbers may not even be accurate.
[vpFREE] Trip Reports
Hey, Rod:
One of my later trip reports talked about us coming off a couple of
"near-disastrous trips" so, yes, we do feel the pain of playing DDB often, but it
just seems that overall 2012 has been a very, very lucky year for us.
I have to agree with your statement about aces with a kicker, though. We
seem to get that hand an extraordinary amount of times, but we do play a LOT
of hands!
With the two of us playing (and we both play fast, at least 700-800 hands
an hour) I'm sure we play thousands of hands during the course of a
weekend, so we're bound to hit aces a few times. Getting them as often as we do
with kickers... and even DEALT with kickers ... has been the uncanny part of
our story.
And, I have to agree with something else you wrote. Hedy, indeed, is quite
an attractive lady! I consider myself a lucky man in more ways than one!
Regards,
CoachVee
<Hey Coach,
I'm the guy who wrote some time back to say (tongue planted firmly
in cheek) that you are the only one I know who "never, ever, loses".
I just came from your site and the report on the Easter Miracle trip.
You started off by trying to explain that you do have losing sessions
but try to keep them to a minimum. Having written that you then
proceed to relate getting aces with a kicker more times in a day than
I've had in the past ten years, how your wife is able to order up a
royal with a whimsical command to the machine (complete with photo -
attractive lady, by the way), getting dealt aces with kicker and
getting 5 of a kind on Joker.
Yep.............. now I've taken my tongue out of my cheek, and
firmly believe my previous statement. Only question I have now is why
in the world aren't you and Hedy playing $100. machines? Probably
afraid to force too many houses out of business, eh? Then what would
you do for walking around money?

RE: [vpFREE] Gambling taxes as an Indiana Resident?
They will take 3.4% right off the top of any $1200+ VP win. If you live in
IN you will only recover a very tiny amount equal to 3.4% of the exemption.
Since, like most states the tax rate is based on you Federal adjusted gross
income, the only way to affect this is to have deductions that affect that
number directly. If you declare as a professional gambler, your losses
offset winnings directly. Beware that if you do this, you should not have
significant other work income as you will likely lose in the event of an
audit which is far more likely than normal in this situation..

Subject: [vpFREE] Gambling taxes as an Indiana Resident?
In preparing to move to Indiana, I did some reading on the archives here.
Finding some posts that caused concern regarding taxes, I did look up the
state tax forms, and am now seeking clarity.
If I am reading correctly, losses are not deducted against the wins that
must be reported. Having been burned in the past by the AGI impact a1lone,
this would appear to be motivation to avoid machine jackpots
I have played in Indiana for the past few years, and have had no problem
recovering the state taxes, as a non-resident.
However, since this move wasn't planned earlier this year, I have already
accumulated some W2Gs from Indiana, and other states. I'm guessing that I'll
be on the hook for these, even though they were received prior to becoming a
resident.
If anyone with firsthand knowledge can confirm or correct my understanding,
I'd be grateful. Meanwhile, I'm brushing up on my blackjack, and hoping I
can find nickel or quarter machines.
Appreciate any insights or advice!

[vpFREE] Re: ADVANTAGE SLOTS
The X-Factor is in the link.
http://www.pinrepair.com/slots/wms/xfactor.htm
You can see that the multiplier is on 2 and there are 8 stored power points. The power point symbols are on the first two reels. Anytime a power point lands in the screen a power point gets saved. Save ten power points and the multiplier goes to the next level. The multiplier maxes out at ten.
The X symbol is on the third reel. When you X'ed out you got paid according to where the multiplier was. If you caught triple bar-triple bar-X, and the multiplier was on 5 you got paid 200 coins, if the multiplier was on 6 you got paid 240 coins, etc.
A muliplier at 4, with 5 stored power points, was my playable number.
Re: [vpFREE] Gambling taxes as an Indiana Resident?
I didn't have this exact situation when we moved from IN to Vegas 12 years ago. There is this in the tax instructions:
"If you were a part-year resident and received income while you lived in Indiana, you must file Indiana Form IT-40PNR, Part-Year Resident or Nonresident Individual Income Tax Return."
But you would need to check with a tax professional to see if that applies to you.

[vpFREE] Midweek point multipliers?
Will be making a mid-week visit to Vegas soon. Does anyone now whether the M, South Point and/or Palms have regular 2X or better point days on Tues, Wed, Thurs or Fri?
Thx

[vpFREE] Re: Horseshoe Cleveland
I haven't been there but I saw a picture from a pre-opening event of $1 8/5 DDB. It's only one machine but it does not bode well for the chances of finding much worth playing.
