Re: [vpFREE] LVRJ: Former Hard Rock CEO named as president of Palms
I've become friends with both Joe and his travelling Casino Manager Richard Strafella over the years. They are both astute businessmen trying to make it in a very confusing time for Nevada casinos right now.
However, one must ask how much abuse can people take before they get it? They were on top of the world when they were tapped by the M to go from bosses of the Edgewater & Colorado Belle to open and run the new M. Their business model failed as they tried to make the place a big hit in the biggest economic turndown in LV history. Then the HRH CEO committed suicide and the Joe Mag team was tapped in a huge fanfare announcement to take over and make it profitable beyond expectations. Did they even make that one year?
Now it's onto the Palms and another struggling organization. I wish them well, but.....

Re: Palms Buffet (was Re: [vpFREE] Re: How long before the Palms FPDW disappear?)
We were at the Palms last week(5 days ending June 20) and the cocktail service at the Black Jack and Pai Gow tables were REALLY slow...but when they did finally arrive, there were very cordial and fun, as were the dealers. We didn't do the buffet, but the Nove (pro No Va) steakhouse was very good, as was the pool with lots of hotties serving drinks, and speaking of hotties, many of the guests were young ladies hotties.....but don't take this dirty ole' man's word for it, check out the Palms for yourself. The room was also very nice (though we paid $129 night casino rate, not the web site advertised $69 night). By the way, they do have lots of Full Pay VP machines too. When we go back to Vegas, it will, no doubt, be at the Palms. DTH

Ive tried that buffet once and it was one of the worst. I haven't tried it since, even after it was redone. I get a bad taste in my mouth walking near it. I dont understand how people think the buffet at GVR is any good. I think that its a pretty poor buffet as well. Some of the other stations are better. Maybe its just me and my general dislike of buffets.

Palms Buffet (was Re: [vpFREE] Re: How long before the Palms FPDW disappear?)
I have to agree, the Palms buffet is horrible and GVR is okay but not great. I remember the Silverton Buffet was quite good but I have not eaten there in over a year so not sure if it has changed.

Out of curiosity, what time frame are we talking about? Because I
tried the Palms buffet a few times last year and thought it was
surprisingly awful, especially compared to what you would expect for
that tier of casino.

Yes Spock was quoting the bible:
In 2268, Spock, quoting from the Sermon on the Mount, compared tribbles to "lilies of the field... they toil not, neither do they spin." (TOS: "The Trouble with Tribbles")
I thought it was funnier to attribute it to Spock as a subtle joke.
Here on vpFREE I often feel like Daniel in the lion's den, you know that story McCoy talked about in the episode "The Gamesters of Triskelion".

P.S. If it was over your head, it only means you have a life.
[vpFREE] Re: How long before the Palms FPDW disappear?
I see your point. You feel the issue lies in bad training. I believe that is possibly very valid.
Draft something up. I'll get it into the right hands.
I also applaud your ability not to blame an individual for an endemic issue where people were the product of their environment.
Usually, I'm the one reasonable one pointing out situations like this. You have clearly out reasonable-ed me.

There is little point in making a general complaint against the entire cocktail staff as there is no infrastructure in casinos for dealing with such complaints. It would get passed from individual to individual and eventually trashed when it reached someone with enough authority to ignore it "officially".

Sorry,Frank, I respectfully disagree. I don't have a beef with individuals, because it is not their fault they were not taught how to do their jobs properly. The buffet at the Palms got better after many people complained.

Jerrys Nugget is the place to go if you stay on the Strip during your Vegas trips. Make sure you drive around the neighborhood to get a feel of true Locals. Only Kidding.

[vpFREE] Worst poker Ive seen in a while
Well me and the girlfriend had decided to eat at El Segundos at the Fashion Show mall yesterday. This allowed me to make a stop at Puma and get some new shoes and flip flops. The strip was packed, it was ridiculous, What was more ridiculous were all the women wearing 6 inch heels trying to make it down the walkway. On the way home we decided to checked out the completed Tropicana. The last time I had seen it it was in the middle of the work being done. It was nice, clean and a total refreshed look. Very comfy chairs. The poker on the other hand was an abomination. Most of the games were set to the lowest pay scale of 6/5. Some of the dollar games were better but still not playable. High limit was pretty lousy as well with only a few acceptable games. No wonder I literally saw only one person playing poker in the whole casino.
