I have done this on occasion. It tends to frustrate the slot attendants wondering what to write on their form under "winning combination". It usually requires an explanation and sometimes supervisor examination.

I was once very tempted to double up when hitting jackpots for more
than $1200 on a machine on which they were frequent in order to save
on the number of hand pays, but I couldn't bring myself to take the
extra fluctuation.

Not in my experience. That makes it pretty worthless to me. YMMV.

<<<<since it depends on a prior win to engage the bet and the prior bet to get the win is subject to the EV of nsud (99.73) so is the double up bet as you doubling up 99.73 not 100>>>

That sounds like a really bad way of saying that doubling up has no effect on overall ER.... which means that the ER for double up is 100%... but, in the words of Finn the human, "what evs."

... Unless you are one of those people who believes that when you hit the keys actually changes your expected results.

And even if it does change your results, there's no way to predict in what way, so what's the value of it???
Sadly (in my eyes) I have a long-time friend who plays correctly, but for some reason superimposes his superstitions on the games.  If he loses three hands in a row, he would put his right hand in the coin hopper and stir the coins three times.  Now that there are no coin hoppers, he just taps the machine three times.  Can't break him of it.  We sometimes pool our money and play on side by side machines with shared results; as long as he plays correctly, I am happy with that, and can live with his rituals -- except when I'm playing max speed without regard to the downward spirals that occasionally occur, he sometimes tells me to "take a break" -- presumably because he thinks it will make things better??  I just reply "why" and keep on pounding, and he's never had a satisfactory response (surprise!).
