Thanks for that info. I had almost forgotten about Deadwood. I seem to recall that was big news maybe 20 or 30 years ago, like $5 limit poker or something. Too bad they don't have better video poker. Maybe that will change someday. Thanks for the info.

[vpFREE] Re: The 14%'er

Good luck on your Washington trip. There used to be a few low denom wongable slots in those few outlaw places but today i'm not sure.
The big games used to be in Oregon. There was a high limit room at Spirit Mountian with $5 kool Kat, Bingo, 5 line diamond mine, diamond thief, bonus pie, a bank of triple cash windfall, and a carousel of $25 build your bonus!! These machince got a lot of action , and needless to say a lot of people made a lot money. Oh did I mention they launched their first single deck bj game in this room 50 or 100 to $1000 dealt down to the last card with dealers exposing hole cards.
yep that was cancelled a couple weeks. The slots are gone too, unless you count 3 reamaining machines converted to 10 cents haha.

There is not much left at chinook winds either. A dollar bingo and a dollar baseball, that get very little play. Garbage vp there too.
Oregon has pretty much been VP wastland since casinos came in.

I did get a super video bj play in oregon ten yrs ago. It was the old
"winning Touch" machines. It had $1 bj 10 coin max. sd s17 d9, so good off the top. But even better with 3% UNLIMITED cashback 2 days a
week. Promo was for month. Payed %1 all other days of the month. Ah those were the days.

I played those winning touch machines in the oregon bars when they first legalized slots. every place had 25 cent redhot sevens, not big money obv, but there were lots of good plays left for the first couple months. Last thing they had was 5 cent green stamps, got some good plays at the beginning and hit some for $500 and $600. They still got them but no one plays the game anymore (its on amulti game/denom machine) not worth the gas to even check anymore.

Love the old vp and slot stories, keep them coming.

RE: [vpFREE] Re: Tips [Never Hit a 'Real' Royal]

Can't speak for all states, but in Tennessee eliminating tipping would significantly increase the cost of the food in restaurants. Servers are paid well below minimum-wage in Tennessee -- $2.13 an hour last time I checked. Increasing payroll by a factor of 6 at the very least (servers make far more than minimum wage if they are remotely decent) would impact prices accordingly. When I waited tables many years ago my take-home was about 10 times my hourly rate. I was happy if my actual paycheck covered my withholding on my tip income (unlike most, I always reported by tip income to the dime). Most of those folks get zippo bennies in Tennessee too.

I prefer dining at the same places and tipping well (as a former server myself). I've found that I typically enjoy significantly better service at those places than the anonymous customer. Went to the UK once and tipped the bartender like is the American custom. He tried to return it to me, but I told him I wanted him to have it. You've never seen a more attentive barkeep in your life.

It's a paradigm shift. If you look at any other non union workplace, the good workers get paid more than the bad workers. Eventually the slackers would be pushed out of the system and you would get good service. There are other countries that don't have tipping, they have service charges or just raise the price of the food. I can go to a burger joint and get great service even though tipping at these places is not the norm. Why not ?

I would find it hard to believe that if one were at an upscale restaurant in an area that did not have tipping that you would get bad service.

I think there would still be complaints, from the workers themselves. Those that do not pay income tax on their real tip total. And just as any job, as the slackers keep their job, others will follow thinking, I am not doing more than so and so and getting paid the same.

My head is smokin'.  Any one should definitely be able to tell, from my last few
posts, that I fell off the wagon last night.  A good time was had by all.

In Nevada, or Mississippi, or AC,  and probably in some more jurisdictions I'm a
dime a dozen guy.  But in Montana I'm a diamond in the rough.  I'm the pioneer
machine pro here.  Nobody here knows anything about gambling, not even the
owners of the machines.  The couple at the veterans club and the couple on the
Aces Full $75 play are the only ones I've seen here that have even 10% of a
clue.

Frank, several years ago Arnold wrote about a Colorado blackjack player who was using a strategy card at the table. It was the type they sell in casino gifts shops in Nevada, in other words, not worth the paper it's written on. The player was arrested and charged with using a cheating device.

The Colorado statute he was charged under is an exact copy of the Nevada law that was written to outlaw using any kind of electronic device at the tables.

Arnold was looking for a lawyer with blackjack knowledge to represent the person who was arrested. I never got the outcome of the case. I was wondering if you could ask him about it.

I bribed, er, tipped everyone. When you're in the same casino everyday doing the same thing, like sweeping out flush attacks, you are in a glass house. You have a strong money making play but you never know when or if heat will come down. The last thing I wanted to do was make an enemy out of anyone in the joint. If I took a fill I tipped. If I took a handpay I tipped. I tipped the cashier. If you ever lose a play because the person pushing the change cart put the heat on you you'll figure it out.
