Hmmm, I've been on that one 3-4 times. Once was with a group of 30 and several of the party animals had liquor confiscated both from there person on boarding and from their luggage. My date had his Leatherman (like a Swiss Army Knife) taken away from him.

You can always visit the Pharmacia for drugs your insurance won't cover such as Retin A or those little blue pills. They're like 90% off.

I got a gecko tattoo in Belize.

Re: [vpFREE] XVP - Cruise out of New Orleans

Have also done this itinerary many times. Cozumel - Touristy but all the beaches are nice. Most are all a 6.00-8.00 cab ride. We always do Paradise Beach, gorgeous pool area, but beach is pretty rocky. Belize - Downtown is pretty scary. If you do any ship sponsored tours, this is the place. We usually walk around the port shops a little and spend most of our time at the ship's pool since most everyone else will be onshore. Costa Maya - Again, pretty touristy since it was built specifically for the cruise ships. There is a small village about 15 minutes from port, but they will bug the crap out of you to visit their shops and the beaches aren't very nice. It's always fun to watch the drunks at the cruise ship terminal (humongous pool, shops, bars, etc). And it's good exercise to walk the pier (about 1/2 mile each way). My favorite Caribbean port is Roatan. Been on almost 40 cruises and I love Roatan, It's a gorgeous Island and the people are friendly but not overly pushy trying to sell you stuff you don't need. Just about any of the beaches will be gorgeous. This is also a great port to book a catamaran/snorkle excursion. Just do a search for vendors on trip advisor or cruise critic for lots of good recommendations. Roatan is what the other islands "used" to be. Of course, all cruises are what you make of them. Go expecting to have fun and you'll have a super time! Jan

Re: [vpFREE] XVP - Cruise out of New Orleans

Did that same itinerary out of NOLA on the Jewel last spring. Only port that used tenders was Belize. But some of it depends how many ships are in port that day. We had a couple of our port days with 4-6 different ships from various lines in the same city and some were forced to use tenders due to lack of room.

Strongly recommend bringing your own soda or Gatorade (or both). Bottled water can be bought in port much cheaper than on the ship but it's worth throwing 18-24 beverages in your luggage. You'll drink them during the trip and they make room for souvenirs.

Be wary of independent options in Belize. Ship drops you off in what amounts to a walled city built to protect the tourists. Just outside those walls is a great deal of crime. Cozumel you can wander on your own without much concern but I don't recommend that near the port in Belize. We had a dozen people yelling at us through the high fence. It felt like being in an embassy. We did the cave tubing which is a 90-minute bus ride away, and enjoyed it. People were yelling at our bus right as we left the walled area but a mile down the road and it was quiet countryside.

Any suggestions about independent interesting things to do in these ports without taking expensive ship-sponsored tours. Which ports require tenders? I know there is no good VP on this ship, but any other gambling suggestions? We usually just play BJ. Are the drinks in the casino still free on these Harrah's trips? If you want beer or soda in unopened containers – cans, etc. – can you order them that way in the casino and then take them to your room?

Don't be fooled.  There is no Video Poker in Washington State.  Because in Washington state, strategy is worthless and the game does NOT follow the standard probabilities of a poker deck. The match card feature is mostly there to cover player mistakes as wins are predetermined as mandated by state/tribal compact. Hold garbage and you'll seeing a lot more match cards. I would expect this game to pay 92% or so.  So beware of Washington State fellow VPFREE'ps

Re: [vpFREE] Re: XVP - Cruise out of New Orleans

There is a rule about bringing your own alcohol. However, I can neither confirm nor deny that they rarely actually take anything out of your checked luggage. I don't know if that would work for beer cans.

I wonder if that would work for beer cans – or is there a strict rule about bringing in your own liquor.

The best way to deal with the soda issue is to just bring your own on board. You cannot get unopened cans in the casino, but you can bring your own along on the cruise.

We typically bring a 12-pack or two that we buy in port before departure. I took 5 cruises last year, and that was the easiest method.

[vpFREE] Cal club anniversary 10X pts

I swiped at the downtown California club yesterday and got a 10X multiplier on Jan 31.
I played to get the maximum bonus of 250,000 points, but only got my standard 3X as an Emerald player. I checked through the B-Connected website the next day and the additional points were missing.

I called the Cal players club and they said they would adjust my and my wife's accounts to get the correct amount of bonus points.

If you also played at the California on Jan 31, make sure to check your point totals.

[vpFREE] Re: Ellis mailer - perhaps major changes afoot

Ellis Island 10X really means (according to boothling and manager): 0-999 daily base points get NO mulltiplier
1,000 - 1,999 daily base points get 2X
2,000 - 4,999 daily base points get 4X
5,000+ daily base points get 10X

As an expirement, I played 5,645 in action.

I got 17,310 points awarded instead of the 21,450 I SHOULD get if the
above rules are correct. I saw these rules in the manual that the boothling
consulted when I checked my base points with her and asked about
the multipliers.

I spoke to a manager who explained that "their system was a little behind today"
and that I should get all the points when it catches up. However, I observed that
the system was keeping up on each hand I played and the kiosk agreed with the
display on the machine I played.

I shall follow up and report the results in a couple of days.

Under the previous tiered freeplay award system I would have received $25 today.
Instead, I got bupkiss, nada, zippo, goose egg, etc.

Sayonara, Ellis!
