Who knows? You wrote that you'd rather play Pai Gow than nothing.
Feelings are very unpredictable. Is there any reason the gain you see
in leaving a "cold" machine is necessarily less than the loss you see
in a lower paytable?
>Ive seen so called advantage players talk the talk and not play like they preach.
I agree. Misconceptions can easily co-exist with discipline. I try
to be as disciplined as I can and I've been at it for a long time, but
I still catch myself thinking such nonsensical things as "this machine
is running bad" when I know I should say "just ran."

Re the one-way being limited to 2 gift cards, I didn't try it but the
suggestion to go one-way to maximize gift cards came from Southwest & they
didn't mention a 2-card limit. It would be nice if someone were to try it &
report back. I still have a bunch of cards but they're already committed.

To clarify-
There are only 3 payment slots with South West.
If any gift card/fare credit does not over the total fare due on the 1st
payment slot, then a second gift card/fare credit can be used on the 2nd
payment slot. If there is still a balance due, the 3rd payment slot can be a
gift card/fare credit only if it covers the entire fare balance due.
Otherwise, you will need to use a credit card for the 3rd payment slot(and use you
gift card/credit on another ticket)
Buying one-way tickets allows you to use up more gift cards/fare credits.

Top 10 reasons to change machines: (with apologies to David Letterman)
to take a break, to spend some quality time in the porcelain throne room, to move away from annoying drafts, players or smoke wafting into your eyes,
to stretch out from the seated position, to change the lighting pattern hitting the machine, to move from an upright to a slant top or vice versa, to have a different set of noises assaulting your eardrums, to move closer to or further from a significant other.
Any or all of which can just relax you, energize you and ensure that you will play as error-free as your training and skills will allow you.

[vpFREE] Barona in San Diego - Big win on Ultimate X!
Hi everyone. I don't post often, but I like reading the stories of good
gambling sessions and so I like to share mine as well. I know we all
feel like machines sometimes aren't playing fair when you're on the
underside of the long-term average curve, but then you have an amazing
session that brings you to the upperside of the long-term average curve
and you start to believe again.
Previously, I mentioned my best hour ever, hitting three royals on the
same single-line machine at Circus Circus Reno:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/vpFREE/message/105790
<http://groups.yahoo.com/group/vpFREE/message/105790>
I had my single best hit ever on Friday night. I can't afford $1 play
within my bankroll and with the volatility of Ultimate X, a game which I
enjoy playing, I can only afford to play $0.10 triple play.
After sitting down, the person on my right, also playing dimes on a
single-line machine, hit a Royal Flush. I got Royal envy. Then, the
person sitting to my left got a Royal Flush playing nickels. I got even
more Royal Envy and was stating to my machine neighbors that everyone
around me was hitting royals.
Royal #14,000 dimes ($400), no multiplier. Held
three:http://yhoo.it/yHYbV4 <http://yhoo.it/yHYbV4>
Now I no longer had Royal Envy. I was a happy camper. I kept playing,
despite the man on my left who told me that I should leave now that I
hit a Royal Flush on the machine (despite the fact that he hit a Royal
Flush on his machine but was still playing on it). Well, I proved him
wrong.
Royal #28,000 dimes ($800), 2x multiplier. Held
three:http://yhoo.it/wDpvx3 <http://yhoo.it/wDpvx3>
Now my machine neighbors had Royal Envy!!! I had one more Royal Flush
than them! The man next to me really couldn't believe that I was still
playing the machine because I had surely taken all of the money out of
it. Well, I told him that actually, it had taken all of my money from
the first Royal Flush (I was down to $38 in credits it the machine when
I hit the second royal).
I kept playing because there was a hot seat promotion going on that
night. $2,000 awarded to one player every 20 minutes. I didn't
actually think I'd win, the entire place was packed with practically
every seat in the casino full. But it gave me a reason to stay longer
than usual. Luckily I did stay longer because...
Royal #348,000 dimes ($4,800), 12x multiplier. Held
three:http://yhoo.it/A4TlPN <http://yhoo.it/A4TlPN>
Ok, that was an amazing hit! I was honestly beside myself. I got the
biggest hit possible on one of these crazy machines. I was so excited.
It's my single biggest win ever. I've hit some $1 royals before, but
never as high as $4,800. I was ecstatic.
So hopefully stories like this remind everyone that there is an upside
that comes every so often that helps to smooth out the downside. I
realize it's luck, but it's long-term luck that keeps the game exciting.
--sdbravo
PS - I am not a shill for Barona casino, but they are really the
friendliest casino with the best service and best games in San Diego.
The service is impeccable - where else do an army of change people walk
around ASKING to cash your tickets? Where else can upper-tier players
press the service button to get a snack for free brought to your game?
They hand out trail mix, pretzels, and sometimes even full bags of
kettle corn. Their ATMs are free. They have good VP (you know the good
VP because auto hold is turned off). I would recommend taking a trip to
San Diego and visiting the casino while you're here. The hotel is also
exceptional. Lastly, remember to ask for CASH and FOOD comps. You'll
earn a measly amount of points for playing VP ($1 CI = 1 point / 1,000
points = $1 in free play or comps). But their hosts will comp you cash
and food just for asking. They told me it's based on the time and amount
played, among other things. YMMV.

[vpFREE] Fiesta Update
Stopped by this morning around 5 AM and they added 4 more of the purple 99.8% machines to the tree circle by the gift shop. For those that like sequential royals GVR has a $1 9/5 DDB bank that's well over $100k for the elusive seq.
[vpFREE] Re: Spoofed Emails from me
Until we get this sorted out here's a general rule of thumb. I have not sent personal email to anyone on this site that was not a reply to email they had sent me in as long as I can remember, if ever.
So if you did not email first and see email from me...IT'S NOT FROM ME!

Re: [vpFREE] Re: DIAD (long and probably too much info for most)
I'd be a big fan of a $1 9/5 ( no tax forms possible ) jacks or better game
which paid $1199 for all straight flushes including the Royal Flush ! It
would be better for both the players and casino, which would benefit by many
'old school' players not altering their strategy, and less casino paperwork.

If you have $100k of w-2's for gambling and $100k of income, that's $200k
AGI when the Medicare premium amount is calculated for "high earners".
If you claim $100k in losses, your net income is $100k because you have the
deduction for losses. Medicare does not recognize the losses! This really is
not a fair representation of your true income, and it really punishes
gamblers with w-2g's.
[vpFREE] Re: Prelude to Post of Dr. William G. McCown Q&A
I cant explain it any better than I have. Why would playing a lower pay table make me feel better? I think you need to improve your critical thinking skills if you cant comprehend my explanation. Im not sure how anyone could be successful at gambling if they cannot comprehend simple explanations. Do you want a physical presentation of what I do and why, perhaps we can meet at GVR one of these days? Ive had this conversation with Kneeland and he understood it. Another point Id like to make is that I take what anyone says here with a grain of salt. Ive seen so called advantage players talk the talk and not play like they preach. I see them switching games, I see them switching machines or worse, playing sub par pay tables with nothing going on to make it a positive play. Ive talked with some of these players and it comes down to the mind games the machines play with people. There are some out there that are very disciplined but they are few and far between. Just look at the jackpot pics on this forum and others. Makes you wonder.

I'm one who changes machines often and for reasons some may not agree with, but there is nothing more important than comfort and health--especially for the recreational players. Some of those chairs out there don't cut it, even for the relatively shorter period of time I'm in them compared to most.

I answered that in the second to last sentence. It makes me feel better. If its the same pay scale no harm/no foul. Im not sure why its so hard for people to understand. I gamble for enjoyment not to make a living or earn comps. If I hit well or earn a nice $100 dinner than so be it. I do play quite a lot so I would rather enjoy myself than be bored or flustered. I'm the type of person that doesn't like to sit in one spot too long. The only exception is a high progressive or there just isn't any other machines available. Id rather go home than sit at a machine that isn't hitting anything for several hours. There are days when I can hit 15-20 quads and some days its a struggle to get a few. I understand the long term and math and I play using correct strategy so at the end of the year I pretty much break even which covers my gambling habit. By the way I have been over royaled(I only play single line) for the last 6 years and my outcome is pretty close to the expected percentages. I would worry more about the people that play very shorted games as I will only play full pay VP. If that not available I head over to the Pai Gow table.

I thank you for that clear info. One last question since you've been directly affected and I haven't been involved in SS income or Medicare yet: If you get $50,000 in W2G's this year and assuming you're a net winner of $10,000, about how much does that affect your Medicare payments?
I know I'm assuming much here, but I do look at players who receive W2G's as having won something after their losses are deducted. At least that's the way it has always been for me. But if a player gets a pile of W2G's and still loses by year's end, I'm guessing that does adversely affect those Medicare premiums, which in turn makes those jackpots not worth hitting. Am I on the right track?

What he is talking about is the Medicare portion of SS. Medicare premiums
are adjusted based upon ones AGI. Mine have been impacted over the past 3
years because of significant W2 G's.

How do SS payments change when you are getting W2G's? They are not figured
into the formula for determining how much a person receives for their SS
benefit unless you file as a business, ie, professional gambler. Are you
also working?
I know AGI affects people who get W2G's, but I've never heard of that making
a $4000 win translate it into costing them anything net.

I recently turned 65 and saw my SS benefits drop in spite of the recent cola
increase, due to a higher AGI caused by my casino W2G's.
