RE: [vpFREE] Bob Dancer's LV Advisor Column - 18 DEC 2012

I made a terrible mistake when I lived and worked in Eugene Oregon. A single mother of three asked me for a 2000 loan to feed her kids and pay rent. After discussion with my wife, we loaned her the money after she signed a written contract.
She then forgot to pay in the scheduled timeframe. I asked her many times at work and she then went to HR to complain that I was harassing her about a personal loan. I was reprimanded by HR and warned to avoid the subject.
I took her to small claims court which is a pain in the ass because you have to hire a professional to serve the paperwork.
A few days after filing the paperwork, I received multiple offers to appear on Judge Joe Brown and Judge Judy. They would pay all travel costs and the loan amount for our appearance.
But for some reason, she declined to appear and I had to garnish her wages for the 2000 and all legal costs. I'm pretty sure they were extremely interested in the case because her first name was , Secret!!! Probably thought she was an exotic dancer.
Bottom line, never loan anyone money.

Bob,

It seems almost ludicrous that anyone should send you an email asking for you to teach them video poker, then to bankroll them when they play. I can't say that I blame you for not falling for that scam. I understand your position perfectly and agree with you 100%.

That having been said, perhaps I can interest you in bankrolling me for a $0.45 cent stamp so that I can send all my personal financial information to the former Deputy Secretary of the Treasury of Ugoddabekiddingmestan, who wants me to collect $100,000,000 on his behalf. I would be willing to split my half, $50,000,000, with you for this kind courtesy of your good self ;<)

Or perhaps you'd be interested in purchasing this very nice bridge that connects Manhattan Island with Brooklyn, NY.

With best wishes for the Holidays, and a Happy and Healthy New Year for All!

Re: [vpFREE] Bob Dancer's LV Advisor Column - 18 DEC 2012

That's the first I've heard of unknowns asking a player to be bankrolled if they were to follow a methodology. I also don't know who would even consider this....or why. So I agree with the premise of the article. However, progressives "team" leaders/owners, from my in-person discussions with Frank Kneeland, do or have done this regularly with people they either know or have been told are up to snuff. And as I told him, I still wouldn't trust anyone who gambles, not to be distracted or tempted to do something that might affect me negatively. As far as the possibility of giving away trade secrets, advantage play and responsible money management are hardly secrets, and being able to seek out certain plays which appear attractive does not take a tested genius to do effectively.

Good article debunking the oft-heard imitation logic of "If your system works, you should bankroll me." But there is at least one further drawback not mentioned: do I really want to teach my most valuable trade secrets to a stranger who might tell ten friends, any one of whom might have the ability and desire to become my competition? Even if she (the stranger) doesn't?

------------

I grew up in the card rooms of Los Angeles. Nothing's changed, and nothing's ever going to change. People are deadbeats.

I wish I had a nickel for every $20 dollar bill I've "loaned" out to people in card rooms. I'd have A LOT of nickels.

Many of the people asking me for money were poker dealers. These sick fools made way more money than I did, but they were in and out of brokesville, for whatever reasons.

One funny thing about gamblers who borrow money is their convenient memory. I've asked guys about that money they owe me, and the answer goes like this.

Deadbeat: "Oh, gee, I forgot all about that."

Me: "Well, if you forgot all about that, then why do you seem to always walk on the OTHER side of the room when I'm here? Looks to me like you REMEMBERED"

Of course, it's not just people in the gambling arena who are deadbeats, deadbeats come from all walks of life, and are of all stripes. But the people who are in the card rooms, race tracks, etc., (most of my friends), are especially deadbeatish.

I'm sure Bob was more polite to the emailer than I would have been. I've learned my lessons about borrowers, and my answer would have been "Thanks for writing, get a fkg job. PS: Merry Christmas"

[vpFREE] Re: Holiday fog in San Diego

I delayed informing you that I was fogged in the Friday after Thankgiving as SWA grounded their
flights at 5 p.m. I thought over the many years in and out that arriving from noon on took care
of the early morning pocket that settles in only in that airport vicinity.

My 7 p..m departure was also ok as other airlines where the planes were on the ground were still
taking off. SWA, however, did stop their landings @ 5p.m.

I was lax in phoning as to the flight status since it was very clear inland.

Barona was about the same and did find 50c/$ single line back past the table games and in
the area of the coffee shop quadrant. I happened to get $20 at random from some wandering
team.

Hope myXmas flights are w/out incidence. Happy Holidays to all!

Anteroz

[vpFREE] Keno Draw Poker

Walked into my local Indian casino last night and found two new "red triple plays". I said, "Ah, well what have we got here? Two "new" old machines? Upon closer inspection, and after slipping a hundred dollar bill into it, I learned this was some new Keno-Video Poker hybrid thingy. It's a freaking Prius.

Well, I don't know much about Keno. Every time I have looked at all the different versions of Keno, my eyes glaze over. But this looked kinda interesting. I didn't sit there and figure it all out, but you win multipliers. If you hit something on your Keno card, there's a corresponding multiplier for the video poker hands.

I looked it up on Video Poker dot com, and they have it right there on their front page. I couldn't find anything yet on Wizard of Odds. I'd like to see some work on it.

Can anyone comment on it? Paytables, returns, etc.?

[vpFREE] Re: Ca regulations

My hat goes off to the brave officers of the NGCB but I think the reality is that they are underfunded and have too heavy of a case load and I have to side more with Rob in this one. But, if you're ever gaming in Nevada and encounter what you think is against the gaming regulations, send them email or give them a call:

http://gaming.nv.gov/index.aspx?page=24

The public never hears about most cases because the casinos agree to bigger settlements if there is agreement not to publically disclose the details and give the casino a black eye in the media. The casinos seem to treat the settlements as a cost of doing business, apparently there are enough gamblers that are afraid to fight back to justify this as a business decision.

Of course if you think your civil rights are being violated (you do know what your civil rights are, right?) then call 911 and your lawyer. And just because you're a degenerate gambler does not mean you need to surrender any of your civil rights, regardless of what minimum wage so-called "security agents" might say or do.

--- In vpFREE@yahoogroups.com, Tabbycat wrote:

Um, yeah, Rob -- I have actually met someone in Nevada Gaming Control. Several, in fact. Guys and gals with badges, guns and actual authority. I know cause I called them to investigate, and they came. In every case but one, they sided with me and things changed. In other cases I reported a violation anonymously, and later found agents swarming over the afflicted joint with a fine tooth comb. I also once met personally the head of the Gaming Control Lab, in his office, where trained people with real equipment were doing real work to keep Nevada games honest.

It must be nice to be relieved of reality's heavy yoke, pulling statements out of your ass whenever the urge to pontificate strikes. For the sucker, all the world may indeed be "based on trust." The rest of us mostly prefer fact and rational thought.

They should have been checking the return of the machine, but that could have still been favorable for the casino if players weren't betting max or were using the wrong strategy or making play mistakes or playing other games other than the one with the overlay. They may not have been checking the return of individual machines, instead just checking a bank of machines, and the bank may have been favorable for the casino. And maybe 100%+ games are prohibited in California and elsewhere, but what's the penalty? There is none. Name me a casino anywhere that's been fined for having a 100%+ game? There are plenty of examples of casinos that have been fined for cheating or violating civil rights. Is it also prohibited for state lotteries to go over 100%+ return?

Re: [vpFREE] LVA Question of the Day - 18 DEC 2012

My wife & I spent much of our first year as full-time RVers learning this lifestyle in a park in Pahrump. Pahrump Valley Winery was a monthly visit of ours. The wines were above average and the restaurant is the best in town, by far. We regularly brought bottles home with us, after their enjoyable tasting sessions. It was a very pleasant surprise, considering the struggling community in which it's located. There is one other Winery in Pahrump--Sanders Family Winery--but we've had two instances of bad wine that we brought home. They don't have any dining, but they do put on some interesting entertainment in their courtyard several times a year.
