Encore is scaling back amid dampened foot traffic. Here's how to join vpFREE-Archives using a free Google gmail address.

You can get a free Google gmail account (if you don't already have one) at:

1. Go to: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/vpfree-archives

2. Click on "Join this group" (or sometimes you must click on "Sign in", "New Topic" or "Join group to post" instead). Then follow the prompts to set up your membership.

You can also join using a non-gmail address but it can be difficult and anyone who wishes to do so is on their own. You'll only get access to posting and reading posts via email but won't be able to post or read messages on the website.

If anyone cannot successfully join the group, send me a private email to vpfree3355@gmail.com and I will add you directly..

I don't see any provision for changing your email address after you join, except unsubscribing and then rejoining with the new email address.

Effective immediately, all of my posts (mostly promotions and columns) will be done on both vpFREE and vpFREE-Archives.

I think google groups is a good fit. I use it a little bit since since my isp stopped providing newsgroups.  It's searchable and that's nice.  I don't use the book of face much. Seems like it would be clunkier and less useful.

    I sure wish we could have a Caesars/MGM since I have no interest in seeing 99% of the posts just to do with Video Poker at non-strip local casinos.  Myself and many others are big VP players, but more importantly we need to know what is being offered, what is being done at those casino's, etc.  Sorry to see casino exchanges go away after all these years, but perhaps I will start a group about the casino's. I did start and run a group back in the late 80's and the 90's for another hobby people wanted to connect and talk about.

It's too bad after all the years we are going to loose many, many people due to the fight against Facebook and going to other odd forums where even far less of the long time users subscribe.  Unfortunately it has been sold several times and the latest to Verizon, a cell company, completely initiated the end of it operating as a normal website.

For people who don't like Facebook, one idea would be to join FB but do not add any friends or do anything except go to a new vpfree group on FB.  You can limit your privacy that way and avoid most FB features.  

Anyway I am very saddened by this, having been with the group in its several incarnations stemming from the Skip Hughes days.  The end of an era.
