[vpFREE] Gambling With An Edge --- January 31
Gambling With an Edge will be Richard Strafella, Vice President of Casino
Operations at the Palms Casino. I know a lot of members on this site play at
the Palms. We're seeking suitable questions to ask Strafella during the
interview.
Although there will be some tough questions, keep in mind
that this will be a friendly interview. If you have a deep down grudge against
that casino, don't expect me to do your venting for you on the radio.
You're welcome to either post here, or send an email to gamblingwithanedge@gmail.com

Re: [vpFREE] Re: TDW 99.9%
Its really a great game - but dont expect to have too many winning sessions
with a $200 session stakes bankroll and play the quarter version.
I can never figure out why the casino's are deadly scared of this game and
removed all 50C and $1 versions ? If anybody has recently seen these in LV,
please let me know.
For practise , I'd suggest starting out with your full pay deuces session
stakes and moving down to the dime level till you get use to the game. For
the quarter player, a bankroll of $10,000 should be good enough, but be
careful of the royal cycles ...these can hurt. WIth FP deuces you'll be
draining about $10 for every $1000 coin in - no royal, but with TPD its a
hefty $19.
If you look at the glass plate logo, you see baseball bats and a diamond -
there to remind you its a 9th inning homerun or you go home with your tail
between your legs. In my opinion, the strategy is simpler than fp deuces.
For example 3D's...throw out that WRF or 5K ...go for the quad ducks. Your
stake will be going downhill much faster than FP deuces, despite minor
rallies , till you hit those ducks or RF. I once hit ducks on these 3X in
two hours, for a nice start with $300 cash out for $2000 score.
good luck and best...Tom

I think that .1% might be low, since by the reasoning I gave above for
the frequency of the Red or Black Royal Flush, a royal flush would be
hit only once in 256,000 hands. I'll guess the overall payback with
perfect play is 98.8%.

Well, just giving some rough estimates, straights are made about 1% of
the time. There are 10 possible straights, so ace high straights
would be made about 1 in 1000 hands. Of those, starting out with an
ace of any suit, to have the other 4 cards match its color would be
1/2 each, for a total of (1/2)^4, negligibly removing the royal
flushes. So, it sounds like that hand occurs once in about 16,000
hands. Getting 36 extra bets for it would add .225% to the overall
payback, making it something like 98.3%. Strategy and other
adjustments, such as drawing to royal flushes more than each
particular straight flush, might add .1%.

Sorry should be 4K Aces 160 (400 w/ kicker 2-4)

[vpFREE] Re: Double Double Bonus Red & Black
That would be a frustrating game;
and barely above 98%.

I'm not sure what it means. Is it an ace high straight in only 2
suits, one of which is red and one of which is black? Is it an ace
high straight that isn't all red or all black?

[vpFREE] Double Double Bonus Red & Black
Had some new machines installed in the local casino (Prairie Meadows, Des Moines, IA). I haven't found any analysis on this game, and not sure how to analyze it without doing some hand calculations.
It's basically Double Double Bonus 9/5 with a bonus 40 coins (or 200 for 5 coins) for a Red or Black Royal Flush. So you would get this payout with a "Black Royal" As - Ks - Qc - Jc - Ts.
RF 800
SF 50
4K Aces 160 (800 w/ kicker 2-4)
4K 2-4's 80 (160 w/ Kicker A-4)
4K 5-K's 50
Red or Black Royal 40
Full House 9
Flush 5
Straight 4
3K 3
JB/2-Pair 1
Has anyone seen an Expected Return on this game, or a strategy for this game. I haven't figured out when one would hold 3 or 4 Black Royal Cards vs say a 2-CD Royal draw.

Does anyone know if the rate will change for Diamond card holders?

[vpFREE] Re: TDW 99.9%
TDW variance is about 4x FPDW, so basically for the same EV you're looking at 4x the bankroll and 4x the number of hands to get into the "long term". The "short term" will likely be painful, but I hear that sometimes even a drunk pilot can land a plane.

Even my bonus point days don't make it worth it, and I doubt I will get enuf in freeplay in the mail to balance out the loss in ev. I play anywhere from 800-1200 hands an hour, depends on how much I pause for break, get a drink, answer phone etc, but that is when the machine is at full speed...
