[vpFREE] XVP Aria's Lawsuit

It may be old news, but I first heard about ex-NBA star Charles Oakley's lawsuit with the Aria on channel 5's news tonight.

Here's Mr. Oakley's side of the story:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/05/16/charles-oakley-sues-las-vegas-resort-beat-down_n_862533.html

Here's the Aria's side of the story:

http://www.vegasinc.com/news/2011/jul/11/las-vegas-casino-guards-counter-sue-nbas-charles-o/

I'd lay 100 to 1 that if either side is substantially accurate, it's the Aria's. Maybe Mr. Nersesian can be asked to comment about it on Thursday's show.

Yes, the same 1099-GA requirements apply no matter what denomination you are playing. That said, a few months ago I saw a reference in one of the Bellagio's quarterly promo offer mags that they were close to instituting some new patent- or gaming commission approval-pending technology/capability that would allow players to self-service their jackpots in the Hi Limit area. Don't recall that it gave a lot of (or maybe any) details but it certainly sounded like something I haven't seen before.

W-2Gs are meaningless to a professional gambler. They just report their net
win on Sch. C.

Aria has special software to accumulate all the reportable jackpots in a
session and generate a log, so you don't have to stop when you hit trips or
better.

Good question. I was also wondering how he's going to like his 0.65% EV
when April 15th comes around. I assume he's got it all covered since he's
been playing with the big boys for a long time.

The trip report mentioned using coupons from the "ACG and
LVA MRB".

The ACG is the American Casino Guide book that includes many coupons. Here's the 2011 list: http://www.americancasinoguide.com/2011-american-casino-guide-coupons.html

The LVA MRB is the Las Vegas Advisor Member Rewards Book that comes with a LVA membership. Their 2011 coupons: http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com/whyjoin-mrbdetails.cfm?CFID=31347796&CFTOKEN=27812289

How are taxes handled on a $100 JOB machine, you hit a full house, do you need to have a 1099-G every time??  Even a 3 of a kind would be over the $1,200 limit.

Maybe not a coincidence that the $100 progressives at Bellagio and Aria were the same. Someone told me they are linked.

Yea, doesn't bother me at all to go to a 99% machine when they send me $850 :-)

heads-up on the photo link. I clicked on the photo of the poker joint and it had a virus. Computer started to do a "virus scan" but it wasn't my microsoft security essentials. Shut off my computer before it got to registry.
Yea, the sign on the joint was intriguing.

I'm sure his fellow grinders who also played this lucrative play but did not see the RF, are today enjoying every one of those fifteen hundred bucks per hour earned directly from the Aria.

We've seen it right here a hundred times: the vast majority of AP's who go after these things are either seriously under-bankrolled, they have to pool together their funds just to sweat out the play, or they have to endure some tourist catching the big one after just 5 minutes at a machine.

Reality: It's not what you think.

If that is true, then possibly the reason you are incredulous of those who claim to make a living grinding out advantage video poker is your lack of understanding of the fundamental concepts necessary to accomplish that.

I would think a large percentage of people who have never even played video poker would have an intuitive grasp that bet size would affect bankroll requirements (even if they have no familiarity of concepts such as variance and advantage).

It seems to be a more common practice in Harrah's/Caesars casinos to preclude some of the strong vp machines from accepting Reel Rewards coupons. It appears that this is in reaction to some players who regularly seek out these machines to play through coupons once and run with the money.

If it should be necessary to play an inferior vp game in order to convert the coupons to playable credits (or simply cash out), bear in mind that even in taking a 1% paytable cut to do so on a $1000 offer it only costs you about $10 in EV when played through once. It's not the worst sacrifice.
