[vpFREE] Re: My condolences Bob

A Californian used to post that he had not had a Royal for forever.
Still did o.k. because of decent paytables/cb/fp/bennies.
That was >10 years ago.

Nowadays, when you get behind on royals it's a lot harder to eke out an advantage. I had a royal drought couple of years ago. No royal in 200K hands. Things are much better now. Made up for lack of royals and then some.

Hope you get a couple on this trip. Get on the path to Royal recovery.

[vpFREE] Re: WMS "My Poker" not looking so hot

If they put in some decent paytables on them, more people may play.

I saw a knock-off of multistrike and got excited but paytable sucked.
Did notice it took awhile for the different games to load. Something you used to see 20 years ago.

"Poker area" in this case probably means "video poker area". It's on the main floor as Richard wrote. I'll let vpFREE2 know to change the wording on this listing.

Nope, not me. But I sure am anxious for the day that New Jersey gets all that online gambling thing going.

Still looking for that elusive Royal Flush. Last one in 1995.
Any other good VP I should check out downtown?

Try the main floor in the area between the table games going towards the front desk and the wall.
The main herd of 9/6 variants is there. See you Sunday.

[vpFREE] Re: Host at MGM (NOIR Status)

We made Noir early last year when they were on the continuous 12 month cycle (not calendar year). Then when they changed to specific dates (must make whatever level by 1 Oct), we made sure we had over the 1 million points. Went in a couple months later and we had been demoted to Platinum. Emailed our host, he never replied. Asked at the desk and they said everyone had been demoted as of 1 Jan and it was now by invitation only. We used up express comps and are not going back. It's really not fair to change the rules in the middle of the game.....

> You will notice that there is no longer any number beside Noir. It used to be one million, but recently that number was taken down. If you ask a hundred employees what the new requirement is you will get a hundred answers. Maybe it depends on your actual or theoretical loss? If so, that means if you play “good” video poker games, you may never play enough to be “invited.” There doesn’t seem to be exact property-wide requirements, and it is almost impossible to find out specific property guidelines. The slot club personnel almost never have an answer. Even the hosts don’t seem to know or aren’t allowed to tell you. Google “MGM Noir tier” and you will find a lot of discussion on this subject.

[vpFREE] WMS "My Poker" not looking so hot

I haven't seen anyone playing these new machines in my traveling around Vegas. They're interesting looking, and I applaud WMS for trying to get into the market, but they're confusing and I don't think the paytables are a bargain. There's got to be a reason for players to try these new machines.

I'm kinda reminded of those "Guaranteed Play" things that were all over Stations' properties a few years ago. I don't think that was a huge success.

Let's face it, video poker players are smarter than your average slot player and you've got to do something extra to win their loyalty.

[vpFREE] Re: Wildfire Group in Las Vegas

One of my favorite spots to play used to be the Wildfire Group, including Barleys, the Bowling Alley across from Barleys, Wildfire Rancho, etc. They had a great setup at their bars, where there were eight vp games progressive that built simultaneously, and there were always some rather high jackpots.

> In the time since I was here before, Wildfire Group has been devastated. All the progressive are very low, and the same setup is no longer. At Wildfire Rancho, there is only one jackpot at the bar instead of eight, and it is always low, and the bartender told me that since they did that the place is frequently dead.

>

Just got in, it's 4:30 a.m. The weather is very nice right now in Vegas. Coming in on Boulder Hwy, got the window down, the music on, it's nice, real nice.

Checked the Wild West and the Wildfire Sunset, still have to check the Greens and Wildfire Boulder that used to be Magic Star. But the Wild West has one jackpot now for all games. Best game is 9-6-5 Double. It was at $1360 when I was there, and the bartender said it hit earlier at 1700 and re-set at 1300. I said, "Oh really? They have a backup?" He said he doesn't know and it always confuses him. I asked him what the players think of the new setup. He said they like it like this. Of course, these players are typically drunk, and half play keno, so I put a lot of stock in THAT poll.

Got to the Wildfire Sunset and it appears they still have it the old way, all eight games building simultaneously. Sure, paytables suck, but I don't remember what they were before. Best is 8-5 Double Double and it was at $2200. That was at least a pleasant surprise from all the 1000-1100s I've been seeing. I think 7-5 Bonus Poker Deluxe was about $1700. So apparently all these Wildfire joints still have a degree of independence. Still broken hearted about Barley's, though.
