Re: [vpFREE] NOT XVP - CoachVee Book

Thanks for bringing me up to speed Jean. I see nothing wrong with people playing for comps either, as long as they have the financial means. Personally I only care about comps if they are in addition to a positive EV play, or break even at worst. I thought Mickey's comments meant there was something more going on. I guess not. Too bad the casino litigation references only relate to personal injury cases.

I always found CoachVee's trip reports informative, entertaining and well written. I am sure his book offers nothing less.

Mentioning a book is acceptable, flogging it is not.
It is admirable that the " posters for profit contingent " , stick together and support each other.

CoachVee always admitted that they didn't play at the highest EV possible. He was always very open and truthful about their play. He knew the numbers as well as any of us but they chose to play what they liked best most of the time. I don't think he ever said he made money playing VP and he often reported about losing.. One main reason why their choice of sub-optimal VP probably didn't "cost" them as much as it might for others was that they used the comp system to the max better than any other player I have ever know – I always said that Hedy could "out-frugal" me any day of the week.

This goes back to what I always say – never judge someone else's play. We can't know anyone's total financial situation and whether they can "afford" to play like they do. We often don't know their goals. And we don't know the ends and outs of their playing choices – what extra benefits they are getting that don't "show" – how much free play they are getting, etc., etc.!

(This may be called a VP forum but we all discuss the general casino environment and all the things that affect our VP play, including problems we run into. That is why I feel the mention of this book is appropriate on this forum.)

CoachVee's trip reports were generally detailed accounts of his gambling sessions and travels. Now you've got my interest! Mickey Crimm wrote that CoachVee was very sneaky in extracting money from the casinos. It always went over my head. I never understood how you could make money playing horrible Double Double Bonus paytables at Harrah's properties. Does he really tell all in his book? Will these techniques still work in today's casino environment?
