Absinthe (in a tent at Caesars Palace Vegas) has been likened to Cirque Du
Soliel --but the likeness is really not there. The show is half crude,
raunhcy humor and half acrobatic type acts. I didn't find the humor very
funny (but some people found it hilarious). I've seen way better insult
humor, and I don't find the words fuck and penis funny for the sake of them
when repeated over and over. Keep in mind I'm a pretty jaded show-goer, and
I've seen all but one real Cirque du Soliel in Vegas, and many similar 2
person acrobatic acts in variety shows. Still the acts were primarily good,
main ones consisting of a 2 man balancing act (seems like this one has to
appear everywhere, even on cruise ships), man and woman aerialists on a swing
(very good and with more than usual body contact), man and woman spinning
skaters (saw similar act recently on Epic's Cirque type show -- more
exciting on a moving ship -- and that show as a whole was waaay better than
Absinthe). Also there was a single spinning woman with bungie sort of ropes,
I thought she was excellent. And a 3 man very good tightrope team - but
they were very close to ground on pretty short rope.
Also there were a couple of extremely tame strippers (going to pasties and
bikini bottom) - not impressive at all, a decent singer (but I couldn't
understand some of her words), and the main man and woman "comedians" doing
insult and penis humor.
Maybe drinking would enhance this show -- couldn't hurt it -- they sell a
lot of booze and come around during the show.
Show might also be helped with more comfortable seating. Front seats had
a bit of padding, but if you are in front you might be the target of some
MC-audience interaction (advice - if a woman, don't volunteer). Cheaper
seats not only are hard wooden chairs, they are also extremely small in width
and depth and pressed close together. Fortunately since I am large, I
asked an usher if it was possible to move to one of the back extra seats, and
they moved me to an odd bathtub like seat with a slight pad. Not great, but
better than the wooden chairs. There are some benches and other seats at
the back, and if you are large, you are advised to opt for the front seats
with padding or to ask to be moved to the odd seats in the back if possible.
As I said, some people seemed to really enjoy the show, but to my mind, you
are better off to spend your money to see a real Cirque Du Soliel show,
such as my #1 pick "O", or #2 "Mystere" or #3 "love". If you want acrobats
and raunch - but raunchiness in better taste -- and better acts (also more
acrobats), go for Zumanity. If you are on the NCL Epic, go to their cirque
show for a really excellent Spiegel Tent experience. If you have children
- don't take them to this one!
Also, Absinthe can go dark during periods of high wind -- we were winded
out last week. There are no refunds, only replacement tickets for another
show.

I haven't been yet, going to wait a few more weeks before even going to look around. It only holds 5,000 people and people are/have been standing in line just to get in place. Plus, they only have 2,100 slot machines, of which (according to the casino web site) only 200 are poker machines.
Do know a couple that went over the past weekend, the lady hit for $1,250 and can tell everyone, that they take State tax on the spot. Federal tax is up to you, if you want, they take it.
Another thing, the lady witnessed a guy hit a $1,600 jackpot, he gave his ID and SS# for the W2 paper work and he got $0 with the W2, seems he owed some child support, so it all went to the State. Not sure if they are doing that for ANY THING owed to the State (like back taxes), or only for child support.
Just a side note, as for the State tax, the lottery issues a W2 at $600, so I do not know at what level the W2 is issued at the casino. Also don't know if it is withheld for only State residents or if it is taken for ALL???

RE: [vpFREE] XVP: THE POKER TOURNAMENT FORMULA
I found Snyder's book impressive. We'll be interviewing him on GWAE on June 14 On June 21, we'll have him back, talking about his sequel, Poker Tournament Formula 2. Although the titles are very similar, the subject matter of the second book is much different. It deals with deeper stacked professional-level tournaments, but it introduces a concept he calls poker utility that is hardly ever mentioned in other poker tournament books. I've been carrying around one or the other of these books for a couple of weeks now, reading them if I'm eating meals alone in buffets. A friend came up and told me he thought the books weren't very good. The comments didn't cause me to lower my opinion of Snyder's books. Rather, it caused me to lower my opinion of my friend! Bob

[vpFREE] XVP: THE POKER TOURNAMENT FORMULA
I just picked up Arnold's book. Chapter 28 is called "How Much Money Do You Need." In this chapter he has a chart showing his results for the first 75 tournaments he played in. The average buy-in was $70 for a total investment of $5250. He cashed 14 times at an average of $1200. Of the 14 cashes he says that 5 were substantial. I think he is talking about 1st, 2nd, or 3rd as that is where the bulk of the money is.
Before the boom I remember top notch tournament pros talking about the expectation on their buy-ins. Most put it between 200% and 400%, with Phil Hellmuth, of course, putting his expectation at 500% to 600%. Arnold's cashes totaled to $16,800. That's a 320% return on investment. He then moved up to bigger buy-in tournaments.
He was selective of the tournaments he played in, looking for the right structures. With an expectation of 320% then juice from 18% to 25% is no big deal. If I had it to do over again I would've bought his book when it came out in 2006. I would've studied it for awhile then jumped into those tournaments to see what I could do.
[vpFREE] Re: I phone I Pad VP trainer program
Unless its changed in the past couple weeks... You do have to purchase them separately. Some apps are compatible with both.... Some aren't. Yes u can play the iPhone version of the app on the iPad but the resolution will be off and it will just look like a giant iPhone. There is an iPad specific app for winpoker which is more expensive.

ALL iPhone apps will work on iPads and once you have purchased the app once for iPhone you can install it on your iPad. By purchasing the app you now have rights to it and it can be downloaded on too any other Apple device as long as it's compatible. I've been using it on my new iPad for just over a month. My son has iPod apps that work on my iPad and vice-versa.

[vpFREE] Re: Palms 50c FPDW MIA
Palms is in financial trouble. Obviously they brought back the quarter deuces because they noticed a dropoff in business when they took them out. As for the half dollar deuces, that was probably a reasonable exercise given the poor financial situation, presumably they either ran bad in favor of the players or the caliber of players was better than the casino expected or a Chinese or Russian team moved in. What the Palms should do is put in better progressives, like 9-6 double double bonus with 1% meter or 8-5 double double bonus with 3% meter. Those would bring in business and cost the casino nothing, they may even make money on them due to player mistakes. On days they want to promote they can add to the jackpots and on days they don't want to promote they can take money from the jackpots, I'm pretty sure gaming allows that now as long as the money eventually goes into a jackpot.

This is a serious question, I wonder what "they" or "someone" is thinking. Is it just a mistake? How about a few years ago when Orleans put in 17-10 LDW for 25-cents/50-cents on two banks of machines? Was it intentional for some unknown reason? Was it just someone's mistake? Does someone in charge not really know what he is doing? I'm not trying to bad-mouth anyone, I'd just like to understand the motivation.

[vpFREE] LVA Question of the Day - 23 MAY 2012
LVA Question of the Day - 23 MAY 2012
Q: I have a bunch of chips I forgot to cash in before I left
town. I called the three casinos that I had chips from and
two said that it was against the law for them to buy via
mail and one said "no problem". Is there a law preventing a
casino from buying my chips back through the mail?

[vpFREE] Re: I phone I Pad VP trainer program
Yes you have to purchase it separately for both devices. It's $9.99 for iPad and I think 3 or 4 dollars for the iPhone. Therefore I have only purchased it for iPhone so far. There is another one called Video Poker (with a red icon) which I s cheaper ( I think $4.99 for iPad) but you have to earn points to unlock features such as a random shuffle enfine(the default makes u win a lot, I hit a RF in my first hour I knew something was wrong) also you need points to unlock the "advice " mode.
Interestingly, I have compared several borderline hands with the two apps and they both have given different results. I think I trust win pokers answer more, since they have a reputation of a while.
