State of benefits... ( was Re: [vpFREE] GVR is a Joke)

I thought I would add to this discussion as this is probably the best set of Comps we have received from the various Hotel/casinos for Christmas/New Years going back at least a decade...and we are LOW rollers. She plays Slots and I play VP to the best of my ability after about 15 years of trying to learn optimal play. I'll be honest, I've never calculated coin-in stats, I just know we each take about $1K-$2K to play with under the assumption that we might lose it all and it's just the cost of a vacation, and what we have in our wallets when we leave is a bonus. We also follow a "dark-hole" philosophy I learned from a car-salesman about 40 years ago.....when we hit any jackpots or nice wins, we stuff that money in a separate place in the wallet. Money that hits the "dark-hole" comes home with us no matter what, helping to ensure we bring something home.

Anyway, back to the benefits discussion....we will be arriving in Vegas on the 27th and staying to the 7ths of January, and are only actually paying for 1 night ($25 at Silverton) but even that night they are comp'ing more than the cost with food and play credits. The nicest comp this year was the 3 days at the RIV including room, pre-NYE party with MC Hammer, New Years Eve party, and some food/play credits....all FREE. Comp'ed rooms at Main Street (Slot Tournament) and another video poker tournament with comp'ed rooms/play at Silverton covers the entire 10 days. We also do extensive Internet research on additional benefits, senior days, free activities, and also make extensive use of several Vegas coupon books.

One of the biggest cost savings thing we do is usually start with a hotel that offers a free shuttle from the airport to the hotel, and then pick up our rental car off-airport ( this time at TI ) with the return location AT the airport. With this plan, we are paying $328 for the 10 days vs. $550-$650 for all ON Airport.

Sorry to probably give more information than anyone wanted, but I hope I have added something of value on this Christmas Day.

Be safe my friends, and also be lucky!
Fred, Atlanta

If I were a new player that joined vpFree I'd be so confused after all the reading. So many reductions in benefits at this casino, casino chain, or in this or that program; such lousy treatment of players here & there when it comes to comps; and the treatment of vp players overall has taken such a dive.#AOLMsgPart_1_9905b7c4-655a-4f3f-9e0e-eae68f9f5e74 td{color: black;}

The ualtimate complaint is no complaint at all. We complain best with our feet. Why paint a nice picture if it's not? Isn't it better for new player to know the facts?

Merry Christmas......Jeep

And after reading some of the complaints here, I can't say I disagree with most of them. However, because I've always focused on how to do my best at the machines and accepted whatever came my way in the form of benefits whether accurate or not, it has made for a much more enjoyable experience. It may just be me, but I'm not the type of person who likes to get into disagreements & confrontations with the kind of people who hold the power in casinos.

[vpFREE] re: Stations

GVR will not turn the speed up on the optimum play machines....

Boulder says no bouceback cash on the optimum play machines, GVR does not.

My girlfriend and I are starting to play FPDW pretty fast now, havent clocked it yet but will soon... Having the machine not set to full speed drives me bonkers constantly waiting for it. GVR is a nicer property and most importantly less smoky, but the loss in speed is too much for us, we will keep our play at Boulder... But it looks like our best move might be to learn another deuces game, NSUD or Triple Deuces to play on Bonus days... We are each President, and she already has 50k for next period (35k for me).  And we both took about a month off after the house purchase as we were doing many things with moving and the house.  We both can probably make chairman next period without much difficulty... but I don't know if the benefits will be worth it.  the most freeplay we get now is $10 or 15.... We do wong some slots, ultimate x, and I have a lot of poker play, but a majority of our play is FPDW which is .025% ev in comps now.  What are some other
players bonus point days at?  Ours are $1 =5 on vp and 8 on slots.( so thats $12=5 on optimum vp) Anyone get higher? Thanks

Ed

Re: [vpFREE] Bob Dancer's LV Advisor Column - 24 DEC 2012

All completely overthought points and each one couldhave a very good answer to it as to why to Twitter.
I don't to it myself.  But If Mister Dancer wanted tomake more money of his books/cards/services,he could just hire a smart High School tech internto take care of his twittering.
He could share some excitement and some headlines. He could post a day after he leaved the casino with apickup truck full of hundreds.  He could not tell anyoneabout his secret plays (still).
The twitter universe is another separate world thatcan be mined.  And for Mister Dancer to a) write itoff summarily and b) talk himself into it with talkingpoints that don't really apply, just show's it's toughto change when you're an old guy.
I'm the same way, yes, it takes one to know one.
Marketing wizards don't use Twitter for their health. It's a new market and a different reach.

[vpFREE] GVR is a Joke

I'm posting this because of the earlier Stations thread and I am a VP player...
Comps at Stations are a joke...
My wife and I spent three days at GVR. She got three nights comped - $50 food credit and $100 free play. She played 30 + hours and between $10 - $100 betting blackjack, 3 card poker table games. She lost $3800...Twice we asked for meals - the first the host said just put it on the hotel bill and we'll cover it at checkout. The second the host gave her $30 food for Tides.
So at checkout we are presented a bill for $100+ - $85 for food and $15 for internet. We asked why "internet fee" - the checkout girl said "if you are comped the resort fee (which includes internet) you have to pay for the internet fee (no - we we not using the high speed internet, just the regular)
WHAT!!! so after rangling she took off the $15 internet fee....now to the comps. She calls down to the host or who is working the desk and he can't comp her play, but can take points from her account....OK....so they clear the bill. We leave happy---
The next day I check my points and they took the charges from my account ($85) apparently our accounts are linked. So for 30+ hours play, $10- $100 betting you get $30 in food comps at GVR (Great Value Rip-off) and they raid my account without asking.
Yes, I called our host - Peter - the next day and of course have not heard back.
Now we go to Vegas 10 times a year - for 20 years - playing at CET (both of us are Diamond), Boyd primarily and never have we had to pay for a room or a meal..
but the two times we've played a GVR they screw us with the bill at checkout. It's small money but still....
So we are done with them and lesson learned...
Screw us once shame on you - screw us twice shame on us....
We are done with them...
