Nice, my next question had to do with the number of credits to play. On my exploratory session, I started with one credit, but later bumped to full (three) credits to end the experiment and get back to my more profitable green felt. Thanks for your candidness on this subject, Mickey. I hope one day I can pay you back, whether it's info, or a shot of VO and a beer.

Re: [vpFREE] Re: Gift Cards - Tiffany's, etc.

Thanx to everyone who responded with such helpful information. I didn't realize there were so many places you could look to both sell – and buy – gift cards. I knew about eBay but I found many local places when I went to Craig's List-Vegas although I didn't check out their prices. And there are several Internet sites but some didn't have good reviews. The one I liked best was http://www.cardpool.com/sell-gift-cards. No fees and it looks like it is connected with amazon.com and seems to be the most reliable one. In fact, they are offering to buy my Tiffany cards at 75% of their face value – even more if I took it in amazon.com money rather than cash.

I knew $400 was lowballing it – that was just the minimum I would be happy with. So $543.75 sounds really good from cardpool. I would have liked to sell it to a person I know, personally or from this list – and I will still do so if someone wants the cards for that price. But please e-mail me privately if you are interested.

In the meantime, I hope this discussion has been helpful to others who may have cards they'd like to turn into cash – or ideas on how to buy cards at a discount.

I'm not 100% certain, but it appears the LVH Tuesday point multiplier promo has ended. I did not see signs in the casino nor did I notice any stickered machines. The promo was pretty worthless anyway because no machines with decent paytables were included.

I have used Craig's List. No fees involved either.

A quick check on Ebay shows that the Tiffany gift cards usually sell for more than you want from them.

[vpFREE] Re: drawings

On April 21st the Audi drawing at Silverton was a shocker.
The guy who won the car only had 5 FREE entries. He was just going to the Aloha Festival and got his 5 free entires they give anyone who asks, and got picked first for Car. Players I know were playing every day, getting the max. 50 per day, said NOT FAIR. Casinos are nuts to limit entries, and even worse give out free ones to non gamblers.

I tried really hard at the Palms, but no luck in that drawing all month. There are probably about 50-60 hard core players, who put on a lot of points for entries, and they take turns getting picked. 10 winners is not enough!

I popped in 20 minutes before the drawing, earned enough points for 2 tickets, and had my named pulled... I literally ticked off the entire establishment..

RE: [vpFREE] drawings

Miss Craps concluded: Just goes to show you that
maybe it doesn't matter if you had a lot of play

or not...maybe having high number of entries makes it a bit more likely you
will win something, but not necessarily a great prize with 10 names called.

What she says is true, but misleading.

The chances of being called first is correlated with how
many entries you have. But not perfectly correlated. If she has 4000 tickets at
the Palms for 100 drawings, she'll probably get called 70 times --- often
first. That's a lot of tickets for their drawings. Someone who has 100 tickets
for the same 100 drawings might be called once or twice.

The thing is that there might be 200 players each
drawing night with 100 tickets or less. One of them sometimes wins --- but 199
of them don't! That person who won tells everybody that it only takes a few
tickets. The other 199 tell of that one time in 2009 when they won as well,
forgetting to mention that they have showed up again and again and again since
then with no drawing luck.

Earning 4000 tickets for a Palms drawing takes $400,000
in coin-in --- if you're playing on a video poker machine that includes 1¢ or

games. Playing 9/6 DDB perfectly implies an expected loss of $4,008 --- a lot
more if you don't play perfectly. At the Palms this offset by $1,000 in free
play (or $2,000 if you used a 2x point coupon which was available once during a
3-week period if you got the coupon book in the mail). This will qualify you
for a pretty good mailer for a month or two. To my mind the fact that she broke
even (presumably meaning she came out $1000 or $2000 ahead including free play)
is largely irrelevant. I believe you should judge your decisions based on EV.
NOT on actual results.

If you were guaranteed to win the IMAC and the $3,000 in
cash that would go with it, it might be a good investment (if you can afford
the swings of $400,000 of DDB. This is likely not a concern for Miss Craps, but
for many players it would be.) But as Miss Craps concluded, you are NOT
guaranteed to win first prize --- or any prize at all.

Sometimes I have played this much during a similar
promotion, although I play 8/5 Bonus which gives the casino $700 less of EV
compared to 9/6 DDB. (The best game EV-wise that counts for promos at the Palms
is 25¢
Ten Play 9/6 JoB. You can get about $7000 coin-in per hour on these machines.
It takes 50+ hours in less than a week to earn 4000 tickets. Yes it's possible if you have nothing else to do that week,
but . . . ) It is inconceivable to me that I would voluntarily give up an extra
$700 in EV to play for a drawing. I am grateful for Miss Craps and others who
are willing to do this.

Bob

[vpFREE] Re: XVP: Diamond Thief

Also, in the link, second row right, you will find a picture of the Fox Hound. This was an advantage play too. And the play carried no cost to spin it off. It was 100% profit.

Notice, on the panel below the reels, that the credit and play buttons are lit. This means there are credits on the machine. Notice that the big button in the center of the panel is not lit. When you trigger the bonus round (about every 60 spins or so)that big button in the center will light up. You have to hit that button in order to get into the bonus round.

Sometimes, when I would be making laps around the Vision machines looking for advantage plays, I would see that big button on a Fox Hound was lit up. None of the other buttons would be lit. What does that mean?

It means that a tourist bet his/her last credits and triggered the bonus round, but didn't notice it and walked off. So all I had to do was hit the button and it was free money.
