Re: [vpFREE] Delayed Trip Report

I really enjoy reading the trip reports. I wish more members of our group
would write them. I love going to Las Vegas and before the economy tanked, I
was making 5 to 6 trips a year ( was mid Diamond for 5 years). We own a
business in Ky and the economy wrecked havoc on us. So I really can not
afford to go more than a couple times a year and even then not nearly as much
money available to gamble so...post those trip reports and I will visit
vicariously through you. Thanks Pat

It had to be something else. It happened with the screen buttons, and also with the physical buttons. It was bizarre.

I too gave my donations, in $20 trip/lightening strikes increments, playing those white cabinet slant-tops. I never knew there were back-up meters. I do remember Elliott Shapiro stating that he hit the ACE$ either on this board, the Laughlin group or maybe privately, after I commented that it was hit.

So hamstockman, how did you find that $75,957 hit for May 2004?

Mickey, over on videopoker.com you have a long story thread. According to my notes, I too was staying at the Pioneer Hotel & Gambling Hall that Mon/Tues (April 22-23) nights right before the 2002 River Run- Harrahs gang shootout event. You were waiting for the new Acres slot card system/Double Time Jackpots promo to kick-in. I was oblivious to the possibilities. But I can confirm what you were doing that week of April 2002.

[vpFREE] Video Poker Machine Plays Itself

Anyone ever see this? I never have. I was in a bar in Las Vegas, and it was a typical IGT bar top, not an old machine. The first couple times I just kind of shook my head and wondered wtf just happened? I thought that maybe the draw button on the screen was sticking, so I started holding my cards and pressing the draw button on the counter instead of the one on the screen. Then I watched the machine do it some more. It dealt a new hand by itself, and then drew all five cards before I could press to hold any. I called the bartender over, but in the meanwhile I tried to quickly press the cards to hold as the machine continued to play by itself.

The bartender came over, and I guess he quickly saw that this could be a disaster, and quickly reached his hand over and cashed me out. Then he got on the phone with someone to tell them about it.

I've never seen a machine go crazy like that before. I'm glad it didn't throw away quads or a straight flush by itself.

Re: [vpFREE] Re: Strategy adjustments for A-C-E-S Bonus Poker?

I was just about to play when the backup meter had been hit. I recall it being hit by a lady whom I didn't recognize.

Memories sure do run together. My first recollection of anything on television is JFK's funeral, which I picture myself as watching in Alabama, although I know I was in Seattle.

I was interacting quite a bit with Ray (real name not Ray but does start with an R) at that time. But it appears, with your added information, that it occurred a couple years before that. I remember Ray telling me that his buddy had hit the hand. As for the number it hit for, well, my memory was way off on that one. And the conversation must have taken place before the backup meter got hit, which I know suspect was hit by Ray.

This is a great example of the effects machine glare has on players. It's very tiring on the eyes and definitely leads to mistakes. I can't take that kind of glare very long.

Another pet peeve of mine is uncomfortable seating, the worst being stools with no backs on them. I think it effects a casinos bottom line. I've gotten up off plsys simply because the seating was so uncomfortable. I might be an advantage player, but if I get tired in that situation, ploppies do too. The ploppies far outnumber me...and have less incentive to stay. Whover is in charge of purchasing seating should do their research, as in trying the seating out for themselves befoe buying.

[vpFREE] Re: Kudos to the El Cortez....twice!

Even the newer machines can be problematic when trying to hold cards. At
least once a week I have to call an attendant. I can't use the buttons
because of arthritis in my hands so I use the touch screen - well some of
those screens drop cards or add cards and if you are playing at all fast you
are screwed. They generally do fix it for me, though.

This time it was quite a bit faster to receive the $235 difference.

[vpFREE] Kudos to the El Cortez....twice!

A little belated, just now unwinding from a twenty day trip to Las Vegas and Laughlin.

I was playing one of my favorite machines at the EC, where I had my only dealt Royal for $4700 several years ago, coin dropper Kings or better Joker. Dealt three top diamonds, held KAJ from KAxxJ, drew the diamond Queen and Joker. Fist pumped in triumph, machine said winner paid $5!! Eh? I missed the button when attemting to hold the diamond Jack. I think I qualify as a Mac Computer Wizard...
boot camp is free from Apple
Parallels costs money
a better solution is Virtualbox
http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/4.0.4/VirtualBox-4.0.4-70112-OSX.dmg
Realize that in all cases you must have a copy of Winows to install.
Mac makes it easy.

WinPoker means Windows Poker not Win at Poker according to them. I know it is possible to install Window programs on Mac because I have done research on it. My question is has anyone installed WinPoker on their Mac or are they using something compatible for their MacBook?

[vpFREE] Re: Venetian/Strip comps

Since you've paid for rooms before, your best bet is to do an internet
search before each stay. You should also reconsider the Wynn since you would
also get offers comparable to what you've been getting from Venetian. I've
stayed at every major property on both sides of the Strip except Monte Carlo
& I have to say that the standard rooms & suites, in general, are better
at Venetian/Palazzo & the best at Wynn/Encore. Regarding service, it all
depends on what you're looking for. I've had excellent service at just about
every property including the Harrah's properties that you don't like but in
specific cases, it's also been awful. On average the restaurants at Venetian
are very good, Wynn's are even better but I stopped going to Venetian 2
years ago due to bait & switch tactic on an offer & some other things that I
noticed -- all ties go to the casino, it wasn't always that way but you
could see the handwriting on the wall.

I used to be a Harrah's Diamond member but stopped playing there when they
trashed the VP and let everything else go downhill. For the past few years
when I've stayed on the Strip I've gone to Venetian/Palazzo where I've
either gotten comped rooms or decent deals ($129 a night plus food/show/slot
credits). But the rumors of their eliminating comps other than to the
high-rollers seem to be true. When I asked about rooms for June, I was quoted the
same rate I could get thru any site online. And they said to be comped, it
would take 4-6 hours of $2 VP or $250 average bet at the tables. If they
had decent VP I might be able handle that, but not with the games they
offer.

I'll see if I get an e-mail offer for June, but otherwise we'll be
shopping around for the Strip part of our visit. Any ideas on other places on the
Strip? I remember Wynn being very tight. What about the MGM properties
these days?
