It's not just a rumor. Adelson himself bragged about eliminating comps for low level players on their last quarterly conference call.

MGM put me in a higher tier in their newly rebranded players' club than I thought my play warranted, and a few others have mentioned the same thing. I think right now they're hungrier than the other big operators on the strip. Cosmo is another possibility, although I think the lowest denomination that they have playable VP is $5.
