[vpFREE] Edgewater & Colorado Belle Decimated

Rest in Peace Edgewater and Colorado Belle.
The last of the playable Video Poker is officially history at the Belle and the Edgewater in Laughlin. I've watched for the last five or six years as the opportunities have slipped away. A year or two ago they removed the Optimum Play bank leaving only scattered Bonus Poker and a few others. After checking the vpFREE database I now  see they don't even have that. So it's over.

I'm fairly happy playing at the Aquarius though. No trouble getting rooms comped and qualifying play for food isn't that big of a deal but I miss the carte blanche treatment that we had as hosted players at the Edgewater. That's why, when our host called me and wanted us to come back, I seriously thought about making a Bonus Poker trip to the Edgewater- just for old times sake. That is, until I checked the database. Nope, can't even do that.

We play the Optimum Play bank at the Aquarius. It has 100% JOB and 99.66% Bonus and yes, full pay DDB for the daredevils.They short the points for playing the full pay machines but the points that we do accrue are more than enough to get our free vacation. Increasing our chances of going home with money in our pockets is the most important thing for us.

I did want to mention that there is no Full Pay Deuces on the Optimum Play bank at the Aquarius. NSUD only. As a matter of fact, I don't think there is a Full Pay Deuces Wild machine in Laughlin anymore. My, how things have changed.

Re: [vpFREE] Re: Joker Games

Many thanks for all the valuable input, both here and in private e-mails.  Some questions I still have:

1.  Would it be correct to say that Double Joker games, which used to be popular in A.C., are not common any more and, if found, are the lower EV variety?

2.  Howard said:  "Joker two pair in the 20-10-6-5 (99.92%) version is still a somewhat common game and often the highest payback game in casinos outside of Nevada."

I  looked up this game on Wizardofodds site (http://wizardofodds.com/games/video-poker/tables/joker-poker/two-pair-or-better/ and realized that it is not at all like the AC two-pair game which has 5-of-a-kind as the top jackpot.  I didn't know there were 2 kinds of 2-pair games.    Is this the schedule being referred to– 1,2,5,6,10,30,50,50,100, 1000/5000?  If so that means that I have to re-write that paragraph about 2-pair on page 114, telling about the two different kinds 2-pair games.  In fact, this one seems available enough (on vpFREE2 at least) that I think I should delete Super-pay JW (4700 royal, which is practically extinct) on the Joker Wild chart (page 115) and put this schedule in its place.  Do you think that would be the best thing to do?????

I have decided to delete the sections on All American and Pick "Em  since this book section is for "major" games, which neither of these are any more.

Dear: Queen of Comps

"Pick em" is still used for Bally products. IGT calls this game "Pick a Pair" and there are other games than the standard 99.95% in formats such as deuces wild, double bonus, etc.

l is still a somewhat common game and often the highest payback game in casinos outside of Nevada. (When Frugal VP first came out, I contacted Mr. Wolf to have him fix a bug which caused this game to show the wrong EV.)
When Bob dancer and Liam daily asked a number of years ago whether another joker game could use their strategy cards, I suggested this game and they did come out with a strategy card for it.

I have never been to Atlantic City (I live in the Chicago Area and met you briefly at one of the shows in Rosemont. My mom used to work for Bally but not the slot machine division.) but I think 9-5 and 8-6 Double Joker are pretty much dead and have a very difficult strategy.

  AC used to have 9/5 Dbl.Joker .  Now they offer 8/5 .

Ballys  AC used to offer 8/6/4  Dbl. Joker which is a 99% game.  Haven't played there in a long time so I'm not sure if they still offer it.

Re: [vpFREE] Suncoast False Advertising

Rounding 98.98% up to 99% may be "standard" rounding, but I agree that it's false advertising, especially for video poker since it requires computer perfect play to achieve the payback calculated by a game analyzer. For example, one writer cites 100.2% for his Double Bonus Poker strategy (rounded up from 100.17%). I advertize 100.15% for my cue card to allow for player errors, even though the strategy chart on the cue card evaluates to 100.16%. Don't forget, however, that it is standard practice for casinos to give the impression that the player has a chance to win in the long run.

I'll have to wander over there next time I'm in Vegas. Thanks.

Even without cash back, it is standard rounding.

I'm not defending them, but it would be over %99 if you included cash back.

Re: [vpFREE] Joker Games

I agree Mike - I really miss that game.  I used to play it at the Hard Rock center bar, and was so bummed when they got rid of it.  Anyone know where to find this game?

Re: [vpFREE] Joker Games & Pick em Poker

There are 3-4 Pick Em Poker games left in Atlantic City at Borgata; I haven't seen them anywhere else; although the pay table remains the same, they must have changed out the chips as nothing comes up over 3 of a kind during an hour's worth of play.

[vpFREE] Suggestions wanted for Optimum Video Poker

I'm working on an update to Optimum Video Poker. Version 3.4 will have a hierarchical Games menu, using sub-menus for different game categories instead of one long list. Beyond that, we have only a few minor improvements, so I'm asking for feedback from everyone interested in video poker software. As you know, OpVP already runs on all popular computer platforms (Windows, Mac and Linux) and is the only such program that actually trains you to play accurately per the strategy chart of your choice. I'm asking for:
* Suggestions for new features
* Suggestions for improving current features
* Reports of any problems or shortcomings
* Any other comments

As usual, significant discounts will be offered for updating older versions of OpVP, and anyone making a significant contribution to this request will get an extra discount

If you're not already familiar with OpVP, you can download a free demo version from my website at www.optimumplay.com
