Thanks for that. I actually checked that before I posted, but apparently I looked right over it and missed the comment.

Also checking my memory, there used to be a few of these with a progressive over at Sunset Station. They were for quarters, with a very slow progressive on the ducks and on the royal. Again, it's been over two years since I have been to Sunset Station. I wonder if they are still there.

[vpFREE] Re: W-2G and Medicare premiums - drifiting off-topic

One other "warning" unrelated to income and unrelated to gambling income, but related to signing up for Medicare. When they send you your confirmation papers, READ THEM. We signed my wife up for Part A and B when she was eligible, and they put her down as declining part B. We didn't check the packet when it arrived with the confirmation, and didn't notice until later that she didn't have Part B -- so much later that it was too late to appeal. As someone else said, signing up after the initial opportunity results in a delay before you can get it, and an increased Part B premium for life. We paid for stuff ordinarily covered by Part B out of our pockets for almost a year due to their error - and our failure to pick up their error in a timely manner.

I can't imagine why someone would not sign up for the whole package; basically it's health insurance at a 75% discount from commercial rates. Even if you can afford to pay your health care bills without insurance, why not take advantage of the government's willingness to underwrite your insurance to an extent that makes it a better deal than commercial insurance would be if the companies didn't even make obscene profits, or any profits at all!

Our own health insurance costs went from $12,000 per year to $2500 per year, and our deductible is now $250 instead of $10,000. Very little not covered that was covered by private insurance (if anything). Hard to pass up a deal like that.

The 50c and $1 Triple Deuces at Texas Station are gone. Someone reported this to vpFREE2.com about three weeks ago.

I can understand Miss Craps beefs about the annoying and usually drunk
hipster youth screaming. They do more annoying things too like...
a. hog seats on full pay machines waiting for friends
b. watch what you are doing , ask stupid questions, or ask for money since
you have $800 in the machine and they have $10 in their wallet.
c. Smoke and spill drinks on your machine or nearby.
d. Talk really loud with super mundane chatter like "You had Mr Krumpits in
Chem 1, wow I had him too..what a dork...you know sylvia who went to the
prom with Ronny bigelow, he got a post office job in Mesquite, near the old
gypsum plant'...and on and on...loudly ad-nauseum.

[vpFREE] Re: W-2G and Medicare premiums

My husband turned 65 in October and retired on Dec. 31, 2012. We both
applied for Medicare and got hit with one of the higher level penalties based
on income from 2011.

The Drug Plan penalty is even more annoying if you only take generic
drugs. You can defer signing up and incur a penalty for life + take a risk
that you won't get sick and require new meds. Based on average life
expectancy, we think it wise to bite the bullet and sign up.

At the moment we have filed an appeal based on a "life changing event",
the event being his retirement w/ no income (unless he does some consulting)
and not currently taking SS benefits.

We have spoken to several people from SS on the phone but no one is sure
if retirement will override the 2 years of penalties we face (2012 income
similar to 2011). However, they did encourage us to file an appeal and get a
ruling. Ours seems like a common situation but no one seems to have
answers.

This whole Medicare process has opened our eyes regarding W-2G's b/c we
were tipped into a higher level penalty category by a couple of thousand
dollars. With three W-2G's already this year, we are rethinking our playing
strategy even though our income will be much reduced.

If anyone has any personal knowledge of the likely outcome of our appeal,
please e-mail me or post online. I'll report back after we get an
official decision.

Thanks,

B

I can't imagine that the screaming in the casino could be more annoying than reading these 3 pages of rants about various mundane details on a VIDEO POKER message board.

About the "screaming"; surely, if you were in the right, there would have been more adult ways of handling this situation rather than calling people "bitches". In my mind, cursing at others in a casino is a much more serious issue that people screaming. Also, who voted you to speak on behalf of the entire casino to say that these women were bothering "everyone"? How many people did you survey?

Aside from this, the obvious question is, given these 3 pages of ranting complaints about the Palms, why are you playing there?

Re: [vpFREE] Re: Gambling With An Edge --- January 31

I didn't ask him or Joe Mag, but from news reports they left the M because it didn't perform well enough due to opening at the height of the recession, and I believe they faced a similar situation at the Hard Rock. They were, however, tagged for the new M resort because of having had huge successes in the Laughlin casinos. So if the financial climate is even a shadow of what it was when they turned the Edge & CB around, the Palms should improve dramatically.

You might ask your surgeon whether you're a candidate for a full-vision
lens called Restore. It works fantastically for me. They've made huge
advances in the technology and care since I helped my mother through her
cataracts.

Richard Strafella is a very knowledgeable career casino professional and a very decent person. He has been the other half of the Joe Magliarditi executive management team spanning the Edgewater/Colorado Belle, the opening of the M, the Hard Rock after their President committed suicide, and now the challenging Palms. His strengths are how the casino floor is set up for maximum spacing enjoyment and profitability, efficiently run slot clubs, simplifying promotions, guest enjoyment and comfort, and he's an expert on video poker machines, game menus, and those who play them among other games. He's very high-end, but he will always answer or discuss any casino subject presented to him. He understands where his property's problems are, and in my experience he has always been happy to listen to any criticism and explain what he intends to do about it. In my opinion Mr. Strafella is a premium guest.

XVP - Re: [vpFREE] W-2G and Medicare premiums

The income related Medicare premiums apply to Medicare and it doesn't matter if you get railroad retirement, state govenment pension, and no social security benefits.

Your Social Security benefit is not affected, but most people have Medicare premiums taken out of their SS check.
