[vpFREE] Palms, other annoyances and so on....

Forgot to mention, I was thinking Palms should give out whistles as gifts
so you could blow them in the ear of screamers....I really think I would
have tonight if I had a whistle. Unbelievable. And they were screaming
every time they hit anything on a slot. A $1.

Meanwhile I had my hair done at the Palms salon, which is now no longer the
AMP salon after being such for over 10 years. Apparently the new owners
of the Palms are getting rid of/changing anything that previous owners had,
even if it makes no sense. The AMP stylists were always great. Today the
stylist wet my back a lot while washing my hair, didn't seem to understand
simple instructions on how to cut, and to my mind was bad. On top of that,
the prices seem to have gone up - now $135 for a wash, cut, and blow dry.
I would never pay so much, but I had a comp.

A lot of the guards and other personnel at the Palms have been fired, some
no doubt due to the crackdown on guards giving out drugs and running
prostitution at the clubs, but others seem to be gone just to change personnel.

Some new stuff is just weird -- for example the Swipe, like today, you no
longer can swipe at a kiosk and see what you won. Instead you must go to
the newly moved promotion booth and hand in your card, then they will hand
you the gift. This was confusing me because there was another gift giveaway
today, and it differed from the Sunday swipe.

Drawings are now at 8 pm Fri. and Sat. which makes it impossible if you
want to do the drawing and see a show. Drawings also conflict with Gold
Coast drawings across the street, which some people want to attend.

Palms is spending something like $1 million to renovate, but the new front
door was redone for no apparent reason. The new high limit room was a
stupid renovation, now the walls don't go all the way up, it doesn't look like
a high roller area, and it is hard to enter, and just as noisy as the rest
of the casino.

Palms continues to suffer from occasional computer problems. They don't
seem to have a good computer system or a programmer around to fix problems.

Weird other problems crop up, like today at the hair salon, the music
sounded like a skipping record, though it came from a satellite, and they kept
trying to play it. Personnel could not reach an engineer or IT person to
fix it.

Little Buddah was a great restaurant with terrific food. It just needed
better signage and promotion. So of course new management is replacing it,
apparently with another Asian restaurant. Does that make sense? And it is
taking them like 3 months to redecorate a place that could have been
reopened with minimal redecoration.

They are adding a sports bar - on the other side of the casino from the
sports book. Huh? And they took away the popular Mexican restaurant.

Palms seems to have lost a lot of the young nightclub crowd. They've
closed Rain and Playboy. Yet they seem to want to attract the nightclub crowd.
I don't get it.

Their promotion department has always been bad and remains so, with
sometimes strange selection of gifts on the M-W-F gift days. Why give gifts out
on Sat. and Sunday with large lines forming at times, when these are
generally the most popular days of the week anyway?

They've removed a lot of the better VP, losing those customers. The
coffee shop service is terrible, with slow service and wrong orders the norm.

Then there is the parking -- or lack thereof. And there terrible music
they play night and day....

Oh, but one thing they haven't changed (much) -- the buffet -- which has
added a number of items but the quality continues to be variable. Why do
they put dressing on spinach for example? Why are the rolls usually stale?
Why is the beef sometimes weird? Etc. The buffet would have been the
first thing to fix if I had been the new owner!

I know by now you are thinking, why doesn't Misscraps go elsewhere if the
place is so darn annoying -- but the reason is that it is the nearest casino
to me and I don't drive....

Still I'm playing less there, and it is no wonder they have lost so much
business while places like the Gold Coast and Rio nearby are packed. Mr.
Maloof is apparently totally gone from management now. You have to wonder
who is in charge and just how dumb the managers are!
