Re: [vpFREE] Re: Quick question about points at the Stations
It appears they no longer wish to encourage out-of-town play on their
better machines.
As an out-of-towner I got bucketloads of offers for FreePlay, free rooms,
food, concert tickets, and other promos including multi-points despite my
playing exclusively on the very best machines. That all stopped with the
new year; best I've gotten so far is free popcorn while watching the
SuperBowl on their bar TV.
Though by no means a source of income, I really made use of the freebies
for myself and friends when I came to town.
Ironically, I had been so impressed with their generosity with my small
play (1-2 hours $1 single line) that I gave them a big play on a "bad" $5
machine late last year, hoping to see what the mail would bring.
That's been happening a lot lately -- giving a big play at a formerly
generous joint, and ending up with a mouth full of sand.
Or worse -- two joints last year "No more VP for you" -- one, not very
nicely. (Stole a $300 ticket from me, too). That's more welcome mats
withdrawn than in my previous 16 years of playing. Be advised, it appears
that one era of advantage gambling may be drawing to a close.
As far as using a host, go ahead -- but understand that there is a
possibility you will get screwed. Without a written offer, anything a host
promises you is just talk, and can easily be denied once the marketing
director or VP decides they don't like you anymore. It's happening all the
time now -- in Reno especially (more on that later).
With a nod to Mr. Dancer, I say go out and hit some royal flushes.
Just not too many.

On the 100% machines:
i believe status points have not changed $1= 1 status point/credit.
regular points earned $12 = 3 ponts( on 100% machines)

I haven't been to Texas Station in a couple years but I seem to remember them having TDW in 25-50-$1. Maybe it's still there.

Re: [vpFREE] Re: Gambling With An Edge --- January 31
Richard Strafella is a very knowledgeable career casino professional and a very decent person. He has been the other half of the Joe Magliarditi executive management team spanning the Edgewater/Colorado Belle, the opening of the M, the Hard Rock after their President committed suicide, and now the challenging Palms. His strengths are how the casino floor is set up for maximum spacing enjoyment and profitability, efficiently run slot clubs, simplifying promotions, guest enjoyment and comfort, and he's an expert on video poker machines, game menus, and those who play them among other games. He's very high-end, but he will always answer or discuss any casino subject presented to him. He understands where his property's problems are, and in my experience he has always been happy to listen to any criticism and explain what he intends to do about it. In my opinion Mr. Strafella is a premium guest.

There is a bank of 4 slant tops in front of the coffee shop that has 5,10 and 25 cent 10 coin TDW, so this is actually a 50C version, at Santa Fe Station. I saw them today.

Its really a great game - but dont expect to have too many winning sessions
with a $200 session stakes bankroll and play the quarter version.
I can never figure out why the casino's are deadly scared of this game and
removed all 50C and $1 versions ? If anybody has recently seen these in LV,
please let me know.
For practise , I'd suggest starting out with your full pay deuces session
stakes and moving down to the dime level till you get use to the game. For
the quarter player, a bankroll of $10,000 should be good enough, but be
careful of the royal cycles ...these can hurt. WIth FP deuces you'll be
draining about $10 for every $1000 coin in - no royal, but with TPD its a
hefty $19.
If you look at the glass plate logo, you see baseball bats and a diamond -
there to remind you its a 9th inning homerun or you go home with your tail
between your legs. In my opinion, the strategy is simpler than fp deuces.
For example 3D's...throw out that WRF or 5K ...go for the quad ducks. Your
stake will be going downhill much faster than FP deuces, despite minor
rallies , till you hit those ducks or RF. I once hit ducks on these 3X in
two hours, for a nice start with $300 cash out for $2000 score.
good luck and best...Tom

[vpFREE] Quick question about points at the Stations
On our next trip to Vegas, we plan on playing at the Stations. I understand that when playing 100%+ video poker there, one earns (comp) points at a much slower rate. What was not clear to me, however, was whether status credits were still earned at the normal rate of $1 = 1 credit, or if those also accrue at a slower rate on 100%+ machines. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

[vpFREE] Re: TDW 99.9%
Loose Deuces was (is?) the game of choice for many AP's that needed to keep a low profile. Draining so much money between deuces/royals u looked like a big loser. That's b4 serious player tracking and when there was some juicy cb/fp/bounceback. LVH and Edgewater come to mind.

(Boulder is now no longer allowed to put their machines at max speed, joining GVR.) Even my bonus point days don't make it worth it, and I doubt I will get enuf in freeplay in the mail to balance out the loss in ev. I play anywhere from 800-1200 hands an hour, depends on how much I pause for break, get a drink, answer phone etc, but that is when the machine is at full speed...

Palms comp / Host, was Re: [vpFREE] Gambling With An Edge --- January 31
At the Palms, a standard room comp for table players is earned by a $100
average bet for four hours/day. The hosts have some leeway.
I recommend Mickey Petkus. She has been at the Palms since the day it
opened back in 2001.
