Re: [vpFREE] Royal Drought.....Came close many times

It was crazy the other day ! I was also, stuck with that infamous "one card away" 20 times minimum, within a span of 6 hours of playing. ahhh, the agony..lol..Everyone kept saying, you are due, it'll happen, so, I am expecting it next time..hehe...let us know when it hits Brad and I will too !

Ok,,,,, I guess I did hit one, but for $2.50 on a penny 50 play machine. That really doesn't count. We played 5,000 points through on the FPDW machines at the Palms.

Does that mean that during that time I gambled $5000? I'm never sure how that works.

Came close to the Royal many times. Just missed by one card about 20 times. Still no cigar. Did hit the Ducks once. That was nice and proved to be the profit of the trip.

Stayed 3 nights at the Golden Nugget and then took a bump Sat. and spent Sat. night at the Palms. Had broken exactly even before the extra night.

Keep using the #6 urinal.

[vpFREE] Re: Best Randomness Analogy Contest

Now that the contest has closed, I'll submit my analogy.

You're sitting by the side of the road where you can watch cars coming
over the top of a hill one at a time. You see a red car, then a black
car, a white car, a blue car, a black car, followed by the colors:
Red
Blue
Black
White
White
Black
Green
Silver

Wow! There's an obvious pattern here. Every third car is black.
Therefore, since there have been two cars since the last black car we
can confidently predict that the next car will be black. We might even
offer 2-to-1 odds on a bet that the next car will be black.

If the next car happens to be black, the confidence in the pattern is
reinforced, and we might offer even bigger odds on the third car coming.
Does that sound like a sound bet?

If it's not black, we might think, "Oh, oh, the pattern is changing,
I'll have to look for the new pattern." At some point in time, the
pattern will be broken. So what happened? Just as we tried to benefit
from the pattern by betting on it, we lose. Similarly, if we are playing
video poker and try to predict what cards will come on the draw and
deviate from the strategy, all that we do is reduce the expected value.

Frank, would I have won the contest?

Tom, I don't think you are missing anything. The reason I 'chart' is that at some point during the session, I will think something 'unusual' has happened. Like why am I down $200 after 2 hours of single line quarter NSUD? I'll take a look at the chart and see that I have played 2000 hands, have put $2500 through the machine and have had no deuces or royals. This accounts for about $150 of the loss.

I have tracked about 60,000 hands of single NSUD. I keep track of all hands SF or higher. It's interesting to see the totals for each of these hands pretty close to the expected value. You can see your results are dominated by the deuces and royals. In fact, I graphed each session and you can tell where the deuces and royals were hit for the most part. Most of my sessions are an hour or two.

Sometimes I'll count quads or full house draws in DB. I like numbers and it is reassuring to see the theory actually matches the reality.

I think it would be educational for every person to do this at least once for a royal cycle or 2. Especially the people who have missed their last 27 flush draws. Tracking shows how inaccurate our memories are in the casino environment.

[vpFREE] Re: Questions on Charting

A friend of mine who I consider a smart gambler used to keep track of his royal scares (one card draws). He said it was a check to see if he was getting his share of royals on average.

Considering this activity does generate heat from management ( they dont like people playing VP with pen and pencil in hand ) I'd like somebody to speak up on why this is still a worthwhile activity. Possible benefits are:
> a. check if machine is random
> b. try to find a machine A hotter than machine B
> c. try to determine if machine A generates more slot points than machine B
> d. try to justify's one's total EV ( ie. I'm 10% down for the year because I did not get my fair share of ducks )

[vpFREE] Re: My best losing trip in Las Vegas

If you gambled at the same level at both, then 5 hours worth of coin-in at Wynn probably is why you got what you got...you just got unlucky at Paris and conversely, lucky at Wynn...
At either place, they look at the long run..where if you gamble at that same level next time, you again run the chance of losing the $2600...money well spent, to them.
