RE: [vpFREE] The Dice Challenge

I can't believe that there are so many posts on this. It is simple 5th grade probability. Alan can't be that dumb (can he?). I do have an out (forgive my poker terminology): Alan can say he wanted the 2 dice labeled 1 and 2, the dice to be rolled simultaneously and if die 1 showed a 2 the chance that the other die (die 2) would show a 2 would be 1 in 6.

[vpFREE] Re: The D Coin Droppers

What are they replacing them with from Riviera? I remember some slant-tops that had progressive for 9-7 DB and 9-6 DDB, (I think), that had good meters. Are those gone too?

I'm in deep mourning over the loss of the 5 cent LDW machine. I've played it for years & years.

[vpFREE] Re: What Goes Around Spins Around Vegas Trip Report - May 2015

Royal Flusher asks: "Double Bonus Poker Plus. Anyone care to guess what percentage of AAAA hands are adjacent?"

2/5

Just off the cuff I'd say the adjacent aces adds about 240/5000 x 2/5 = about +2%. The adjacent 2-3-4's are a third of the win but about 3x the frequency, so about another +2%.

RE: [vpFREE] The Dice Challenge

I agree with vp wiz on the human condition. The only hope I see for the 1 in 6 crowd is to give them more examples of why their math is incorrect.

With two dice let's compare the hard four (2-2) to the total of 3. Only one combination of 36 makes a hard four so the frequency is 36. With a total of 3 the frequency is 18. Thats because there are two combinations, 1-2 and 2-1, that make a total of 3. Unpaired dice come in 2 different orders. Die A can be the 1 and die B can be the 2. Or die A can be the 2 and die B the 1.

So a total of 3 is twice as likely to appear as the hard four. And in both combinations that make a 3 you can see that there is "at least one 2." The fact that unpaired dice come in 2 different orders is also true for 2-3, 2-4, 2-5, and 2-6....and that is why when "at least one of the dice is 2 it iis 10 to 1 against the other die being a 2.
