We will be there Oct 3-5 for a 7* annual trip. Any revised
information since vpFREE VP list was updated at the end of
2013? Any details that are good to know? Any input would
be appreciated.

Love those trip reports. Love comparing them to my trips. Thanks for a good one. Horrible experience at Dollar, shame. In 30, or so, trips I've only had one bad experience renting a car. The line "Sorry, we're out of cars." comes to mind that triggered much pain in my ass until it got settled.

Re: [vpFREE] Harrah's Cherokee

they've added some all-star machines, but still nothing playable (i don't know about $10 and up). you might want to ask for a room not facing the (new) pool if you care about noise; sometimes loud bands play there until late.

Re: [vpFREE] Harrah's Cherokee

The other 4 of the game kings have been back near the entrance to the parking garage on the 1st floor for a few months.

I'm there now. I played tonight on the $5 GameKings in the high limit area (played 9/6 JoB and NSUD). I'm not familiar enough with the casino floor to check this out in the few hours I'm here, but was told tonight by another player that the other GameKings in the middle of the casino had just been relocated (don't know where) and that some new GameMakers "with the same paytables" and RED faceplates had been installed "near the charter bus area" and just turned on today.

I hope somebody more knowledgeable about Cherokee can check this out.

No changes to "good" games...still only @$5+.   They recently installed some multistrike/spin/ultimate x/etc. machines, but all of the ones I checked have terrible paytables.

[vpFREE] Review of Lao Sze Chuan, Caesar's Bacchanal buffet, and Viva Vera Cruz

As a prior poster said, it is sad that more publicity is given for the Viva Vera Cruz show

at Planet Hollywood.  These are talented, energetic dancers in a modern update of traditional

dances and are dressed in native costumes that are also modernized.  Recommend the show.

However, hard to locate inside the casino and up some escalators.  When I queried a couple

of kiosks where to find the show, I was told twice that the show had been cancelled.  It was

not but with such information being tossed out, it is no wonder that the room was only about

a third full.

Bacchanal Buffet is expensive with a long line unless you pay extra or are 7 stars or diamond.

I was disappointed for the price paid for the offerings.  The ingredients used are high quality

unlike some other buffets but I cannot eat that much food and felt nothing presented was

exceptional.  I'd rather spend that amount of money at any number of sitdown restaurants

where I can get an exceptional meal for the same price.  It was fun experiencing it once but

doubt I would return.

I just remember from the old days when they had the Bacchanal Rooms with toga clad waitresses.

My wife and I were young and naive and were really dazzled by that experience but doubt I would

feel the same now.

When I arrived at Lao Sze Chuan, I kiddingly asked the hostess if this was Lousy Chow and I

don't think she understood because she said yes.  The room is very nicely appointed.  Good

service.  When there is one chile by an entree, it is hot.  If there are two chiles, you better have

a cast iron stomach.  The food was good but I think Ping Pang Pong is better and cheaper although

the surroundings are not as elegant.  My companion enjoyed the meal.

Re: [vpFREE] Bob Dancer's LVA - 23 SEP 2014

A Bob Dancer article that I can agree with, and with no reservations.
If you put in more play you deserve a better shot. That's why I hate hot seat promotions.
I want my play to be worth more than someone betting 5 cents every 3 minutes.

To add to it. A number of years ago when Casino Niagara had good video poker,
they used to have draws that myself and a few of the local pros used to clean up on.
The smaller players complained long and loud about the people that won all the time.
The casino eventually buckled and ended up limiting everyone to 5 tickets or something like that to make it not worthwhile any more.

I do have one question.
How do you estimate how many tickets are going to be in the draw ?

Myself, I am only interested in draws that have no more than a week's worth of tickets in the draw, more than that puts me at too big a disadvantage with the locals. If I'm staying somewhere for a half a week or better I am putting through some reasonable amount of coin, and I will have a shot at winning something, especially  if they are drawing a number of tickets,  but I have never been able to quantify this.

[vpFREE] Re: Westgate Downgrade

Well that's not a good sign of things to come.

Westgate is more interested in selling timeshares than in gaming.
The old space-quest is now a center for selling weeks at a westgage resort property.
The new owner's wiki includes this:
___________________________________________________________

The Queen of Versailles[edit]

In 2012, filmmaker Lauren Greenfield released a documentary entitled The Queen of Versailles, based on a series of interviews with Siegel, his wife Jackie Siegel, and their attempt to build a 90,000 square foot mansion, Versailles house, modeled after the famous French original. In the film, David Siegel is shown struggling (and ultimately failing) to secure funding for Westgate's Las Vegas high-rise resort, the Ph Towers Westgate. Siegel's son and senior Westgate executive, Richard, is quoted as saying that David Siegel's determination not to lose the Ph Tower was a major source of the company's financial troubles in 2009-11. On November 22, 2011, a controlling interest in the property was sold to Resort Finance America LLC....

______________________________________________________

You can't make this stuff up.

LVH was a routine stay at least 6 times a year @$1 9/6 DDB (99%) in high limit room.

$400 free play for $40K action in one day. Stay 2 nights in a Linai. Feed ourselves with food from points.

Our host was axed with the takeover. He landed feet first at the Downtown Grande. Said to give him a call.

Now latest offer from Westgage is $200 FP and a standard room. We will hold out for $400  before next stay.

The Linai would be a nice kicker. If the paytable changes will have to move on to greener pastures.

Have $150 from Main Street and $250 from Aquarius. That's all we got left. Need to establish at a new AP joint.

 Cheers
