vpFREE Posting Guidelines - 1 DEC 2013

http://www.west-point.org/users/usma1955/20228/V/POL_P.htm

1. Everyone should read and be familiar with the vpFREE
FAQ before posting messages on vpFREE Forums.

2. Every message's subject line should accurately identify
the content of the message, to facilitate faster navigation
by interested or uninterested members.

3. If you reply to a message and change the subject matter,
either start a new thread (preferable) with a new subject
line or rename the subject line to reflect its new focus.

4. When replying to messages, quote just enough of the
previous post to maintain continuity. Delete the rest of
the previous post.

5. When replying to messages, clearly differentiate the
previous message(s) from your comments, so that it will be
easy to identify who wrote what.

6. Never post lengthy copyrighted material verbatim without
permission. This includes posts from non-vpFREE internet
forums. Instead, post a link to the material and/or a
summary. Short, credited excerpts may be quoted.

7. Don't use any vpFREE member's real name, even their
first name, on any vpFREE forum unless they themselves use
their real name there.

8. As a spam prevention measure, no one can upload to the
Files Directory on the vpFREE home page unless they get
temporary upload access from the Administrator.

9. Casino personnel probably monitor vpFREE Groups so posts
containing sensitive information should take this into
consideration.

10. Members are expected to observe the rules of
Netiquette , and to practice politeness and show good taste
in their vpFREE posts.

11. Any post that disagrees with vpFREE Dogma and
reaches contradictory conclusions, should be supported with
significant, persuasive documentation. Generalizations and
limited anecdotal evidence aren't persuasive.

12. Most vpFREE members rely on the forum for accurate
information, and may misunderstand, misinterpret or be
confused by tongue-in-cheek posts which are presented as
fact. Always make it very clear in your posts if they are
tongue-in-cheek, by using "smilies", stating that you're
kidding or something similar.

13. Use FREEvpFREE for any political, religious, or smoking
vs. non-smoking discussions. Non-partisan status reports
about smoking and non-smoking availability in casinos are OK
on vpFREE.

14. If you have Yahoo administrative problems, send a
private email to the Administrator, after you have checked
the vpFREE Yahoo! Administrative Problems Directory.

15. Let the Administrator do the administrating. Send any
comments, questions, suggestions or disagreements about
vpFREE policies or procedures to the Administrator via
private email or post them on FREEvpFREE.

Re: [vpFREE] RE: Re Bob Dancers recent column about hotel stays (breakfast)

I was Hilton Gold and was booked for 3 comp nights at the Fontainebleau Miami . The room was about 1/4 mile walk (or so it seemed) from registration, and was so small it was not acceptable at a $10 a night motel. There was not even a shelf in the bathroom; we had to place our toiletries on the rim of the bathtub. Upon complaining, we were told there was not another room available. We checked out the next morning and were billed a substantial amount for Spa usage, which had not occurred. It was a Hell of a fight to get a very nasty clerk to reverse the charge.

I wrote a letter describing my experience to whichever Hilton (Barron or Conrad) was currently in charge, from whom I received no response, but who forwarded my letter to the GM of The Fontainebleau, who thanked me for my visit and hoped to see me back soon

That was more than 25 years ago, and except for tournaments in Las Vegas, haven't visited a Hilton since

I haven't stayed at a hilton owned property since.

[vpFREE] Re: vpFREE] Re: Pick 'em Poker Risk of ruin calculation

Unless you're getting enough in cash back to overcome the negative EV, your risk of ruin is 100%. You just have to play long enough to lose it all. If you bring other people into your combine to play a negative EV game, as a group you will lose everything. Also, if you combine your money how can it still be your money and their money? I've never lost when playing from a common pool, but everyone has to keep playing. Nobody gets to run out of money and take it easy profiting from the play of others.

[vpFREE] RE: RE: RE: Re: Video Poker Hackers Cleared of Federal Charges

Conspiracy theories are so much more fun than accidents.  I do think the evidence indicates the perp was not that bright.  As usual greed leads to unnecessary risks.  First, he should not have told anyone else and he should have kept his play under the radar.

I find the claim of accidental discovery entirely credible, given a machine experience I encountered several years ago ....

While cleaning the display of a  machine at Trump Plaza in AC, the machine abruptly jumped into setup mode.  Stunned, I panicked and quickly hit the Exit button.  However, curiosity got the better of me and on a later visit I set about seeing if I could recreate the glitch.

It turned out that if you rubbed the machine rapidly in one particular corner, setup mode was activated.  I found I had access to the various speed and sound settings.   Unfortunately, (or should I write "fortunately") it was necessary to key the machine to access the game set ups (seems my guardian angel didn't see fit to give me access to my personal $1 FPDW machine)

So, yes, I find it entirely credible someone might inadvertently skip out of play by hitting the game menu button, and subsequently, through application of a little healthy curiosity, stumble upon the balance of the applicable play sequence.

I still don't believe it was "a fluke" that he discovered "Just playing" (quotes are from the article you linked).  These kinds of "back doors" have to be programed in by the software programmer or team.  Someone had to have told him how and what to exploit.  I still think that the person who wrote the code should be thoroughly investigated.

I believe that someone that worked on the software team planted that "back door" and gave it to a few people with the expectation of being given a percentage of the profit. They should be looking at the bank accounts of the entire software team to see who had a significant amount of extra income. That person or persons is guilty of a crime.

RE: [vpFREE] Re: Video Poker Hackers Cleared of Federal Charges

countgr8 quipped:  Put a light bulb in your mouth like Uncle Fester on The Addams Family used to and use your energy to light it up!

This is a marvelous suggestion. And if it doesn't work immediately, don't quit trying!

Simply walk around casinos with a light bulb in your mouth waiting for your energy to kick in.  This might be a really good way to let people know that you're quite bright!

Note: your mileage may vary
