Just returned from Harrahs Ak-Chin outside of Phoenix as my Diamond trip and it was my second trip to this property with a seven year interval. The property has been significantly upgraded and a five story hotel tower was added. The balance of the rooms are a two story building clustered around the pool which can be quite nice since you don't always have to be going up and down in an elevator.
Trip was arranged by April Waters, a host at Harrahs Ak-Chin, who did an excellent job of booking the flights that I requested and also including a detailed memo of the benefits that Seven Stars players are entitled to at the property and procedures to follow.
Was given a suite in the new five story tower which was very nice with a balcony. The bathroom had a walk-in shower that could have easily held ten people!!! It was a great shower and I liked it.
Ate at the buffet which is one of the better Harrahs buffets -- what impressed me is that they cooked to order strip steaks and salmon filets. A lot better than something that has been sitting on the serving line for half an hour or more.
This is a small property for Harrahs however I thought very enjoyable and good service from the staff. (The manager of the buffet rather than just walking through the buffet would actually pick up used plates and help the staff which I thought was impressive.) A great place to go if you want to relax, enjoy the sun, and the pool.
The property is 45 minutes from the Phoenix city line/airport and can be a much longer drive during rush hour. It is located in the town of Maricopa which has had some growth since my last visit but there is not much (if anything) to do there. There is another casino on the way to Maricopa (about twenty minutes from Harrahs Ak-Chin casino) and many casinos in the Phoenix area but I did not visit any of the other casinos.
