Do I finally have this right – and, if so, does this make things at least half-way clear???

The "mystery multiplier" promotion which the Palms runs off and on has caused some confusion because of the "40K maximum bonus" rule. If it is a "mystery multiplier" day, you will swipe and get your mystery multiplier which, if you plan to use on slots, can be up to 15x and there is no bonus limit.
The problem comes if you plan to play video poker. First, you will only get a 2x or 3x multiplier (nothing higher) and there is a 40k maximum bonus. It is easiest to understand this if you distinguish between "base" points and "bonus points." First, you earn "base" points that accumulate as you play - $1 coin-in earns one point. Then later the casino will add your bonus points, but that bonus can never be more than 40K.
Here are some examples of possible scenarios:
You play 10K coin-in and have a 2x multiplier, the casino will add 10k so you have a total of 20k (base+bonus= 2x)
You play 10K coin-in and have a 3x multiplier, the casino will add 20K so you have a total of 30k (base+bonus=3x)
You play 20K and have a 2x, the casino will add 20k so you have a total of 40K.
You play 20K and have a 3x, the casino will add 40K so you have a total of 60K.
Now here is where it gets complicated:
You play 30k and have a 2x, the casino will add 30k for a total of 60K
You play 30k and have a 3x, the casino will add only 40K(maximum bonus) for a total of 70K
You play 40k, it doesn't matter if you have a 2x or 3x; you will get added only the maximum bonus of 40K for a total of 80K.
