RE: [vpFREE] More October Bonus Points Updates

Thanks. Nothing listed on the website and haven't heard from the marketing director as yet about Oct.  I'll try to follow up.

[vpFREE] palms

I was confused by the note attached to my husband's recent mailer which stated he was now All Star and gets 50% off buffet, access to bistro VIP line, free movie passes, and free car washes -- which I thought meant u get this every month now. I went to booth and they didn't know anything about movies or car washes, said it was just more monthly coupons at the kiosk, but these were not there for Oct., and because the note seemed to lump them in with the regular daily buffet extras, seemed more like these are something new.

All odd! Does anyone else know the story with these?

I notice Tues and Thurs are now giveaway days for Costco and Albertsons cards in Oct. with various play levels. This is a much better deal than the Monday, Wednesday, Fri gift days, which have a bunch of the same gifts given away in previous months -- why do I want more coffee makers and Tiffany lamps? All too often these gift days have a lot of crap, and even if u do want the gifts, if you play multiple days, why do you want them over and over? At least grocery gift cards are useful. More people should complain (in writing) to the General Manager of the Palms. The marketing director seems to think these gifts are great, but a lot of players agree with me.

Meanwhile I see Heraea (or however u spell it....) restaurant has closed in Palms. It was a weird combo of a sports bar, restaurant, and nightclub, and all too noisy and weird for me. Seemed aimed at young people, but Palms already had bars and nightclubs for them, so taking away the Mexican restaurant that was always busy with a more wide range of age groups seemed dumb to me to start with. Meanwhile my husband and I are still missing Little Buddah which had great fish and sushi and was our favorite restaurant in Vegas. Nothing has replaced it and that restaurant looks like no remodeling ever started.

Nove Italiano has had some improvements so that now u can see the great view. I've enjoyed their special prix fixed ($55) dinner with four or so courses and several choices several times (also unlimited house red or white wine included).

We ate at French restaurant Alize the other night -- terrific view and food, but figure about $100 or more per person. Great splurge for special occasions. Excellent wine menu also. They have a 7 course prix fixed meal for $135 a person (wine pairing extra I'd you want it) that looks fabulous. (we ate ala carte on this trip). I think it is one of the best restaurants in town. Go early and watch as day turns into night for best enjoyment of view.

Buffet continues to be variable. Needs better chefs (recipes). At least there is a large variety so u can always find something, and lunch and dinner include unlimited beer or wine. With players discounts or Thursday 2 for 1 for seniors, makes for a decent meal. But I wouldn't want to pay full price.

Re: [vpFREE] Bob Dancer's LV Advisor Column - 1 OCT 2013

Im mostly one of those silent members... Im glad this group exists and love reading every message!

Wow! I really need to learn JOB! I had posted something a month ago asking help on why I should learn a game such as JOB over a game like DW. Being a beginner, honestly i make more mistakes than getting these perfect percentages. I practice everyday but getting to be an "advantage player" is not easy! You can memorize the strategy but playing it perfectly is a totally different game. More importantly is my wife doesn't always want to stay at the hotels that have FP DW and you know who's going to win that battle. That is really great to know that JOB strategy can get me close to BP (with the right payout tables).

Thank you Bob for your article on JOB! Im glad im able to be apart of a group you contribute too!

Chad

About two months ago a new version of Yahoo Groups called Neo began to
be rolled out to members. They are doing this slowly on a user by user
basis, so not all members of vpFREE see the new version yet.

If you are seeing the Neo version of the vpFREE Yahoo Group, you can
still find the old links if you are logged in by clicking on "More"
then "Links".

If you just want the database, it's at http://www.vpfree2.com/

This change does not affect Yahoo Mail which was already changed to
the Neo version over a year ago.

Re: [vpFREE] Re: "Greatest Gambler of All Time" Busted

What i referred to in bargaining was after they have decided to remove you from the property and playing.   After that, what is the point of discussion?  I think my post was referring directly to that issue.    Having said that....

I am probably one of the most ridiculously sticky towards casino management when it comes to pointing out when they don't follow their rules (like what point cutoffs decide when you earn the highest slot play level).  I spent 2 hours in the operations department at  a sunny coastal casino (in las vegas) needing to know the exact definition for points cutoffs, which prior to my inquiry was mathematically ambiguous (read:  the casino determines the cutoffs subjectively or, worst, was consistently cheating customers prior to late 2012).    It seemed my points had 'somehow' dropped off 29 days before the rules said they should.  I also got a nice look at the casino computers in the process.  The computers were coded to drop off the points almost a month early actually.  (read:  valuable information).

So when it's warranted, sure, deal with them.   But when it's not, i put much more confidence in my ability to find and exploit an edge, so my advice to gamblers is  value your time!   I  enjoy finding edges, you only need to know a little algebra and how computer RND number generators work (hint:  they are not and can never be random, just ask a computer programmer.like me).

And what is almost as satisfying as finding it and using discipline to harvest that edge in cash, is going home, figuring out that edge, and coming back to a shifty casino and taking it.      Nothing personal, just the personal satisfaction that my intuition is right.   As is each person's real intuition regarding this (or any ) endeavor.   If you are waiting for a video poker website, casino industry book, or other gambler to "o.k." your hunch, you are not in control of your gambling fate.   There are as many edges as their are individual's who can come up with them.   My background is in financial trading, math, and computer science, and 1000s of times I have found this to be true.  Gambling is a subset of financial trading or vice versa depending on which school you come from initially.     You also have to find an edge that supports the experience you want:   do you want to play 40 hours per week, or 80/20 the endeavor and play less than an hour per day?

When you back that hunches up by some form of rigorous research and testing, and then you find things that work, then you understand at a functional level what I am talking about.

No, it would not be better

I do accept that casinos do not want us (as a group) to win. I do accept that they hire experts to close loopholes that I might exploit. I do accept that if you win too much the casino will remove either the opportunity or remove you.

However, I absolutely do NOT accept that trying to bargain with a casino is a bad idea. There are a LOT of circumstances where skill in negotiation can and does help you. Players who are good at bargaining get more than those who merely bend over and take what is offered. Clearly negotiating isn't successful every time --- but even if it helps you 1 time in 12, you are quite a bit ahead by doing it.

In baseball a 250 hitter is pretty average and a 333 hitter is an All Star. The difference between these two numbers is one hit out of 12. In baseball, the 333 hitter earns quite a bit more than the 250 hitter. In gambling, the successful negotiator wins more than anyone who doesn't even try to bargain.

Everybody has a different style of bargaining. People's perception of how useful it is is often based on their own personal experience. Someone who would give up attempting to bargain is either really poor at it or doesn't understand how to get things in life.

Bob

Well, Steve, if that is indeed your real name, are you willing to provide free content? If so, go ahead and post it. Otherwise, the ad post will continue in a modified form.

PS, the list is not dead. Dormant, maybe.

Dear Dave et al,

What's going on with vpFree?  I can't get on the database or find anything I want.  How did you make it work for you?  Thanks!

Yours for good vp,

Yes, corporate websites suck and most are very user unfriendly. Web designers and coders must keep changing them otherwise they are not needed and loose their jobs. This disturbs most users, but how many CEO's listen to their customers, they really only listen to their CIO or outsource web services company.

Just for this am's example. We live at a Delta airlines hub so we are stuck with their service. But every time we try to look around for flight times, etc. for a trip it continuously "times out" and we have to log in again. To actual book a flight (and we travel a lot) we have to log in maybe a half dozen times because their website is so slow bringing up the flights it goes past their very short time frame their web designers set for timing out your login. Very user unfriendly but do you think the CEO ever books his own flight, if he did he'd fire his Web IT staff.
