What I'd be most interested in hearing about is how efforts to distance players has impacted availability of stronger video poker paytables (which, under the best of circumstances, can already be a scarce resource).  It's been some time since my last Cherokee visit, but vpFREE2 inventory indicates that some of the strongest paytables are still limited to 6 machines ($25/tc).  Have they cut this back to 4?  

  $25 is above my play grade so i can't answer that.  


-->  Sorry for the confusion.  The machines in question are $1/$2/$5 denom, with a $25/tier credit earn.  These machines inventory 98.9% DW at $2, and a smattering of 99%+ games at $5.

i don't know, but it was seemed obvious that many people were not choosing to stay overnight by the lack of people at front desk, in hallways, and in elevators.

the cherokee website lists rooms available to anyone through the end of june. interesting that may 22-25 are sold out, so the dire fears that everyone would stay home once restrictions were relaxed seem to be unfounded in this case.  on the other hand, only one tower will be available through june.

My prior experience at Cherokee is that even during a midweek evening, 4 such machines would see steady full occupancy.  While reduced occupancy might reduce demand, I'd see players of these machines as among the most motivated to secure an invitation.  So, how easy or difficult was it to get play in on one of these machines?

So here's my observations of The New Casino Norm, at least at Harrah's Cherokee. Sorry if this is too much information.

  • In order to enter the property, you had to show a print-out of your invitation. 
  • Only two people per car..
  • Only 30% of room capacity were invite..
  • You were then given an orange wristband to wear at all times to show that you have permission to be on the property.
  • They then took your temperature (no contact). This went far in making me feel more comfortable about everybody else.
  • They then gave you a mask (you could use your own.). It was comfortable.
  • The entire evening, I never saw anyone without a mask.
  • No valet.
  • Check-in was as usual, though judging from the lack of people at front desk. I think most people opted not to stay overnight.
  • Up/down escalators that were right next to each other were shut down.
  • Elevators were used as usual. Hm on that one, though I don't know what else they could do. The restriction on number of people per car, however, resulted in our never being in elevator with more than two other people.
  • Room had a sign "Cleaned and Sealed", meaning no Harrah's employee could enter the room during your stay.
  • No coffee machines in room.
  • No drinks sent up to room.
  • No pen and pad in room.
  • No kids, so the halls were extremely quiet, which was nice.
  • Did not see any dogs.
  • No smoking.
  • Machines on casino floor were socially distanced.
  • Staff was always cleaning the machines.
  • Hand sanitizers available throughout the casino and common areas, especially at ATMs.
  • Only a few shops open and only two people allowed in at one time.
  • Pens are decommissioned after every use.
  • Food court: only burgers, pizza, donuts (you don't touch them). Not even snacks, like chips, etc.
  • Only one restaurant open, for takeout.
  • And Starbucks, but no tables.
  • Room service available.
  • Drinks available on casino floor, which surprised me.
  • Masks 
all in all, i think they really made an effort.

Agree ... IF enforced.  I assume we are all aware that employees asking customers to comply with mask requirements, have been shot and killed, which kind of discourages enforcement of such requirements.  Perhaps armed security will enforce?

We'll see; looking forward to hearing reports about what is actually encountered by those venturing out.  I assume customers will probably not be sent away if they show up, just because they were not among the "invited," but certainly not inviting more than 30% is a start.

Not sure how to handle if someone sits down at the next machine ... or if you're in line at the cashier.  Perhaps ticket redemption machines would be safer.  No idea if handling the cash is safe.

We've been out once at regular stores ( not grocery) since they re-opened.  Half of customers not wearing masks ... remember the masks are to be worn so that THEY don't infect YOU.  When they don't wear them it's YOU that is at risk.  Many seem to think that re-opening with precautions means things are 100% back to normal.. 

Safest protection is probably if you've had it and recovered ... and that's not known for sure with at least three variants of COVID involved. 

 Be careful, friends!  This is a real disease with significant mortality and with morbidity for those who recover once seriously ill.

Got an email from my junket operator, saying that Caesars AC is planning to reopen on June 19, and they have their first charter plane scheduled for the same day.  I cannot imagine being one of the first back in.  I expect a potential deluge of people with cabin fever coming in from the surrounding hotspots  No offense to anyone in those areas!  Just any crowd in general makes me uneasy at this point.
 
It will be interesting to see if this really happens and hear what it's like if some braver souls from this group do check things out.

At this point, more information is certainly better as we all make our own choices about when/where we feel safe venturing back to casinos. 

 

I just got this from my junket host:

 

Each of the casinos are operating a little different but I feel sure as things get better the restrictions will loosen up.  It's funny that we know the procedures for everyone but not Atlantic City, New Orleans, Vegas or Tahoe/Reno.  It is encouraging that Cherokee, Biloxi, North Kansas City, Rincon, Ak Chin, and Horseshoe Tunica are reopening but following guidelines similar to Cherokee.
