[vpFREE] XVP - Viva Veracruz The Show at Planet Hollywood until Sept 26

My friend got tickets to this Mexican dance show, and I thought I would mention it because it was an excellent show and unusual and hasn't had much publicity.   Prices are $39 and $69 I believe, and $99 for VIP tables, but might be slightly more (I looked online and found some conflicting prices).  There should be no problem just going to the box office for tickets, seats were plentiful.  Showtime is 7 p.m.  Show runs at Planet. hollywood (mezzanine show room).   We went to the Caesars Diamond Lounge before hand, which is located nearby.

The show consists of 12 segments featuring different styles and cultures of Mexico, mostly with dancing and a little singing.  There is also some nice video of Mexican scenes shown at times.  Scenes/dances included an excellent opening number that almost seemed like a Mexican Lord Of The Dance routine,  a night club scene, traditional dances, and modern dances, as well as an interesting dance dedicated to Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.

Below is some information from their website.  I gather the show opened in Vegas in August and apparently is back. I don't know if it is touring, but if this show had better publicity, I think it could come back again.  With a big cast of excellent dancers, I felt like I was watching a Broadway quality show at times.  Anyone who loves dancing will enjoy this show, and I'm sure people of Mexican heritage would also enjoy it (if they find out about it).  The show is also suitable for children, who should enjoy the colorful costumes, energetic dancing, and Mexican music.

Also while there, walking through the area between the Diamond Lounge and the main showroom,  a man approached us and handed us free tickets to the Planet Hollywood Sin City comedy/burlesque show which is on the same floor and starts at 8:30 pm.  Since it is Friday and he was handing out tickets (about at 6:30 pm), there is a good chance you could spot him on weekdays when crowds are really slow.  The timing was perfect to see Sin City after VIva Veracruz ended.

------below from their website-------

An amazing adventure told with spectacular dance and music, traditional and modern elements, artisanal handicrafts and cutting-edge technology, the dances and number in VIVA VERACRUZ! THE SHOW have been approved  by the state government of Veracruz, Mexico. Produced by renowned Mexican producer Luis De Llano-Stevens and long time Las Vegas producer Alex Esqueda, VIVA VERACRUZ! THE SHOW creates a remarkable stage production as an homage to the "Son Jarocho" or folklore, songs, music and dance of Veracruz.

Divided into 12 choreographed dance numbers, the show is composed of a series of vignettes, delicately interlaced in a rich, dynamic and eclectic program. The music is a combination of original compositions and traditional songs such as the world-famous "La Bamba." Salsa, Danzon, contemporary dance and, of course, Jarocho, the original Veracruz dance, confront each other, resulting in a beautiful combination of cultures and traditions.

"Audiences will be surprised and emotionally captivated by the spectacular sensations this show provokes," said producer Alex Esqueda, producer of VIVA VERACRUZ! THE SHOW. "We proudly invite the Las Vegas community and tourists to enjoy this visually-exciting experience."

VIVA VERACRUZ! THE SHOW performs inside the PH Showroom at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino Thursday through Tuesday. All shows begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $39 and $69 plus tax and applicable fees. An exclusive VIP package is also offered for $99 plus tax and applicable fees, which includes a VIP ticket, poster and entry for the chance to win a round trip vacation to Mexico. A limited buy-one-get-one promotion is available for Las Vegas locals with a valid ID. All tickets can be purchased in-person at the Planet Hollywood Box Office or through Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000 or ticketmaster.com. A show for the entire family.

Re: [vpFREE] Kelly strategy simplified

Again, that's missing the forest for the trees. The greatest difference for Kelly is that it's the optimal number to *grow* your bankroll. Mentioning ROR is for allegory, choose any other formula you want, it doesn't matter. But using Kelly to keep you from going broke is like using a Ferrari to go to the grocery store. You *could* do that, but there's better ways and a misuse of the Ferrari . . .

In my mind the greatest difference between the Kelly system and the ROR calculation is that the Kelly system tells you when to stop and drop down in denomination or find a lower risk gamble (approximately when your current bankroll x edge / variance is less than your current betsize). The ROR calculation assumes you'll fire away to the very last cent. That assumption strikes me as gambling out of control. You could set the risk of ruin very low, say 0.1%, but then your bankroll growth is also very low. What's an acceptable risk? Kelly has that answer, the ROR calculation does not.

Unfortunately, the frequent renter programs shut down at 10 or 11 pm, so you are forced to stand in line with the rest of the crowd. Learned this the hard way.

"about 5 years ago" is probably 7 years ago, a COMPLETELY different world in online gambling

Michael could have sold that site for much more and made a ton more on advertising revenue.  $2.35 million was a steal.

I'm surprised it was worth that much considering the fact that Michael was soliciting contributions from his readers. It's an invaluable site, and I hope it stays that way.

Re: [vpFREE] car rentals

The best way to avoid line ups at the car rental agencies is to join their frequent renters club. Most if not all are free to join and you bypass the lines when you go to get your car.
At Dollar, most of the time my name is up on a screen that tells me what stall my car is in and I can be in and out of the car rental center in 5 minutes.

I don't know if you can use the frequent renter systems for bookings not made directly through the rental company. If you can't then you just have to figure out what your time is worth and book accordingly.

A couple of my friends arrived in Vegas around midnight and found huge lines for some of the car rental places and waits of over an hour to pick up cars. One was using Budget. (With prearranged rentals). Not sure which places have the problems.

Also be careful if you plan to arrive at midnight....don't request 12 a.m. , they might think you meant the previous day, use 11:59 p.m. On the day of arrival, or if you are arriving at 1:00 a.m., make sure you put in the correct day (that would be the "day" or date after your flight took off for example. The midnight mess happened to my sister, they said her reservation had expired, and wanted to charge her an extra $500 for a week's rental. She ended up using taxis during her visit.
