Misscraps has given excellent information on NYEve on the strip. I just wanted to add a couple things
from our experience a few years back for the New Year's Eve Fireworks viewing:
--Do stay in the vicinity of your hotel and on the same side of the street. We stayed at Flamingo and
watched the fireworks from in front of Ballys. It took us over an hour to walk back across the street,
walk past Bills, into Flamingo and then up the elevators. The longest took to get the elevator to our
room/floor. EVERYONE was trying to go up to their room at the same time--obviously!
--We did have our kids with us one year when they were older- young teens. They do fence off the middle of
the strip/street from the walk-ways. The mayhem is in the middle of the strip/street. We sat in front of Ballys with
some locals and their kids and were fine. Don't take small kids into the very crowded areas. Also, if your
kids are not used to seeing adults on their "not best behavior" -- I also wouldn't take them. My kids
still like to regale their friends with stories from that night and they're now in their 20's!
--Everyone had to show their room key when returning back to the hotel. Doors were monitored by security

Subject: [vpFREE] New Years on the strip
A few pointers if u are spending New Years eve on the strip. Many of the hotels will close their doors to anyone who does not have a room key an hour or two before and after New Years. An exception may be if you show a Diamond or 7star card to get into a Harrahs property. The strip becomes Extremely crowded, and can be scary to stand in during the midnight peak. Small children should NOT be taken to the strip.
For best viewing and safety, try to pick somewhere a bit wider to stand, such as in front of the Mirage fountain, or up Flamingo Ave a bit away from Las Vegas Blvd.
The monorail will close for at least an hour and it will take a couple of hours after midnight for normal traffic to ensue over closed roads such as Flamingo, so don't plan to cross the strip or go anywhere by car or shuttle during the night.
Even when standing on the strip, you are best off to stay on the same side of the street as your hotel.
Pick out your viewing spot early and get there at least 45 minutes prior to midnight. Check the newspaper for locations where the fireworks will go off. Dress warmly with hat and gloves.
To avoid the crowds, a good viewpoint is the back of the Rio in the parking lot with a panoramic view of the strip, but no music. The Hilton's pool area or garage is another good viewpoint on the other side of town.
The fireworks are short, lasting only 15 minutes.
If you want to eat dinner, somewhat expensively, but with a great view, try Alize at Palms or Voodoo Lounge t Rio, or Top of Stratosphere, if you still can book it.
If you are invited to a casino dinner and show, be aware that most of these are snide, with no view of the fireworks planned, so you will have to eat and go outside. Many of these venues include a free buffet the next day, so ask about that.
Unfortunately our casino invites in Vegas have been sparse this year, so we will have dinner at the Gold coast and head for home to watch Anderson Cooper and
Kathy Griffin on tv, who were hysterically funny last year (Cooper's giggling to Griffin's shenanigans was so funny).
Have fun and stay warm.

Heh, I have all of Andy Nelson's little books, somewhere in this house. That brings back memories.
Mickey, since the online poker pretty much got the rug pulled out from under it, I have got back into horse racing and have been dabbling a bit betting on small tracks back east, from where I am at in California. I am amazed to find that almost every track now has some kind of racino attached to it. I can't help but wonder how much opportunity there is out there at these new venues, that is not listed on VPFree. I wish I were able to travel, but I'm not. I just wonder how many good machines and decent slot club and promos and mailers are out there in places like Oklahoma and West Virginia, etc.
[vpFREE] Deadwood to Cripple Creek to Albuquerque to Laughlin.
I started playing $1 to $5 Seven Card Stud 8 or Better, no ante, in Deadwood, South Dakota in the summer of 1992. They whacked me pretty good at first, taking all my day labor money. But I was searching hi and lo for information on how to play the game correctly. I finally found what I was looking for in a library in Fort Collins, Colorado. A friend and I stopped into Fort Collins to work a few days of day labor. Two books that were written by Andy Nelson. They were small books and I ran them to the copy machine.
Gene, the friend I was with, was a rubber tramp. That's a tramp who lives out of his car. His wife and kid were killed in an autombile accident and Gene just wandered around the country after that. He was a real nice guy. We were on our way from Rapid City, South Dakota to Frisco, Colorado where the day labor jobs paid the best in the country. We made it to Frisco and when I wasn't working I was studying the Andy Nelson books on Stud 8.
Gene and I had both banked up some money. Gene wanted to go to Grand Isle, Louisiana, but I had other ideas. We said our goodbyes. He headed south and I hitchhiked back to Deadwood.
I can still see the smiles that grew on their faces when I walked in the door of that poker room. The pigeon is back!!! There wasn't even a game going on, but they all broke for the poker table when they seen me walk in. It didn't work out for them though. I was no longer the fleecee, I was the fleesore. It didn't take long for all their smiles to disapear. I became an everyday grinder in that game.
More later....
Re: [vpFREE] Christmas Day @ Barona
Around 11 am, the temperature was a great 72!. The access road arriving was smooth sailing but by 3 p.m. there was a traffic guard at the bottom of the mountain waving cars in whatever direction. Still ok.
The buffet line was out the entrance and reached down to the end of the food court. The place was crowded but the 50c, $1 on up VP were available.
It was a happy surprise to see the same $ bank I've reported on with the 9/6 JOB, 10/7 DB, etc. No luck today, however.

I haven't been to New Mexico since 1997. My knowledge of machines was limited then. I did see some advantage slots there, but there wasn't enough to hold me in that spot. My options then were to play poker in New Mexico, and maybe pick up a little advantage slot money, or go back to Nevada as there was strong video poker across the state and lots of advantage slots. I chose the latter option.
But through a several year period, about 1998 to 2006, I got some very interesting reports from hustler friends who were working New Mexico. This infomation has got to be way outdated but heres some of the things I heard:
I had one friend holed up at either the racino in Riudoso or the casino at Mescalero. He was working live Blackjack promotions. At certain hours of the day you got bonuses for certain combinations of cards. He said he had about a 3% edge just using basic strategy. He also worked the Omaha-Hi-Lo game in the poker room. In his words "the game was wide open, huge pots."
Then there was a play that him and some of my other friends didn't care to let me know about until it was over. There was a 4 machine multi-game $1 video poker progressive (1% meter) at Riudoso. All the games were low payback....except for FPDW. This was a straight through play, but they didn't work it like that. When the royal approached $6000 my buddy would call another friend of mine in Laughlin, who would drive over to Riudoso with enough people to tie all 4 machines up. They had a good time laughing at me when the play went extinct. They knew if they had told me anything about it I would have been there in a New York minute.
I had a couple of friends that were working advantage slots at Sunland Park, near El Paso. Evidently, there was enough there that a few guys could make a pretty good living out of the joint.
There were Flush Attacks, linked and unlinked, at Santa Ana Star in Bernalillo.
Isleta, just south of Albuquerque had a 9/6 Jacks quarter progressive with a strong meter. They also had full pay unlinked Flush Attacks. And one of those Flush Attacks was super full pay--though the payscale said a regular flush payed 5 for 1, it actually paid 6 for 1, bring the payback up to 103.2%. The last I heard a slot tech put the machine on the slowest speed.

First, Thank You to "Poker Player", "Kathleen Hilbrich" and "jaywilly240"
for your help related to the new games on the Majestic Star 2.
I have updated the vpfree2 database for all the games with the "9/6" signs
on them. (Some of the games in the carousel previously were listed with
fewer good games. These were updated.)
These 16 machines have 1000-10-6 JW2 (This is the 99.92% game which I will
surely need to retrain myself on the very hard strategy.), NSUD, 9-7 TDB,
9-6 Jacks+, 8-5 ACE$, 8-5 Bonus (Why, since 8-5 ACE$ is a better version of
the same game.), 9-7 DB, 9-6 DDB and 8-6 BPX. The BPX also includes a 50000
coin reversible royal but since this game is only 98.96% and would require
an addition to the games database, I have not included it. Machine #6385
(Closest to entrance on right wall.) does not have 8-5 ACES.
The Carousel has three $1 games and three 25c/50c/$1 games which contain the
same plays at all denominations. Two of the machines within the carousel
(One each of the $1 and 25c/50c/$1 had door closure problems so I have not
checked those but assumed them to be the same.). I physically went through
every game on the other 14 machines.

Re: [vpFREE] Harrah's Rincon buffet promotion
I second that Rincon's buffet is second to Valley View's legendary lobsterfest.
Many have made a run at VV, including Pala (uccgh!) but this is the only serious contender. Still falls short of the quality, variety, and consistency of the View, but a good try.
As for the Seven Stars buffet bene ....
An irony of most 7* benefits is that they're only valuable if you DON't plan to play. Yes, it does indeed look like 7* is becoming the new Diamond, as Chopped Liver became the new Diamond. What unprecedented assininity will the Evil Empire create next? Just wait.

This buffet is very good, probably second only to Valley View in southern California. This promo will further cheapen the value of Seven Stars status at Rincon which already awards two free buffets once every day. Anyone know for sure if using a free 7 Stars buffet generates a trip?

[vpFREE] Re: Paris/Ellis Island access
There is a corridor connecting Paris and Bally's. Take it and walk straight through Bally's to the door that opens onto Flamingo. You can see Ellis Island from there. It is a long block away.

It's a game I never worked on. But if I was gonna work on it, this is what I would do:
In my spare time I'm gonna bet one coin a spin for 500 spins and count the number of times a fruit symbol lands in the upper right square. Then another 500 spins counting the number of times a fruit symbol lands in the upper middle square, then the upper right square, and so on. Once I've got a sample space for all nine squares I'll probably do thing same thing again, adding to the sample space.
Some people think you have to make a million spins to zero in on a frequency, that's true if you are dealing with a longshot frequency, but when you have a high frequency of occurrance, like every two or three spins, you don't need that big of a sample space to zero in on it.
So if you put the chances of a fruit symbol landing in a square at 2.25, then just multiply that number out 9 times.
I'm also gonna clock the meter to see how fast it runs. And I'll use the meter to track my total wager. And if I make any long shot hits I'm gonna cull that stat out as it will skew the results.
There were two other exploitable games on the machines that had ring em up, called Treasure Chest and Red Hot Sevens. If you have them where you are at then look for the icons at the top of the screen. If 3 of the five icons are filled in then go ahead and spin the play off. Once you get all 5 icons filled in you get a bunch of free games with the Treasure Chest symbols or the Red Hot Seven symbols becoming wild.
