You have to know how many "coins" were being bet and how much freeplay, loss rebates, drawing tickets, and other stuff he was getting.

Sometimes you can just beat Keno outright, but mostly you need progressives or some kind of bonuses or certain kinds of promotions. Mickey Crimm has written lots of posts on the subject, mostly about Montana games, but the same concepts apply to other states.

TomSki: Thanks for the correction. The drought was a long time ago (2007-2009) and I don't even remember if I used binomial distribution or Poisson formula; I was just reaching for a quick and lazy calculation at the time. I do remember using a round number of 40,000 hands per royal cycle since I played several different games at the time, so that explains at least some of the discrepancy in any case.


By the way, I still have an old copy of your VPSM. It's still my "go to" hobbyist's utilitarian toolbox sometimes. You made it very simple and quick for me to set new paytable values and to print up a customized strategy chart on the fly when I play different games at various casinos (not to mention the occasional progressive, etc.).

I guess they are doing different things with different players. The food and free play in my Gold Coast September mailer are good at GC, Orleans and Sam's Town like they have been recently.

I haven't received a Suncoast September mailer except for a card inviting me to come in every Sunday for mystery free play minimum $10. But my play there has been minimal.

As was discussed a few of months ago, Suncoast separated their monthly mailer from the other Coast properties and since then it has been possible to get two separate Coast mailers. This month I got a Suncoast and a Gold Coast mailer. The difference this month is that the Gold Coast free play and food offers can not be used at The Orleans or Sam's Town. While the majority of my May - July play was at Gold Coast, I did play almost $10k at Sam's Town too. I verified on the B Connected site that there are no September Sam's Town offers available to me. The mailer does have a page of "special offers" available to me on the kiosks at the other 3 Coasts like table Match Play, play $5 get $5 Slot Dollars, food discounts, free bowling, etc.

When you get more experience with the M Life system you'll find hosts have a lot more leeway with discretionary comps that don't come out of your Express Comps balance than is the norm with the Total Rewards program (Total Rewards Credits). But unlike CET, for rooms they ONLY comp at the property where they work and you play. If you are comped RFB you can probably then charge other property restaurants to your room and have them taken off, but I'm not an expert on that. If you play at multiple MGM properties, it is best to have a host at each property where you play. For events like concerts or UFC etc each property gets an allocation of tickets they can comp so you can get them for example from Mirage if the event is at MGM. I take turns asking hosts at different properties so I usually never have to use my Express Comps for tickets. On the other hand I never ask my host for food comps as the Express Comp rate is more than enough for my needs and I only use marketing offers for rooms.

High stakes gambling takes what? $10,000 per weekend? You'd need a 26 million annuity at 2% to keep that going. You could probably find greater yields than 2%, but then you're risking your premium or future payouts or both, which is another form of gambling.

Hey Mickey, no they just have fixed pay machines, only progressives there are megabucks and variations thereof. Like I said if they have 95% VP, can't imagine their keno is much better, expecially in MN. Of course my friend's play, while substantial, wouldn't qualify statistically as long term. Can't recall if there is an equivalent to vpfree2.com to figure out keno payoffs.

Keno is generally a game that you CAN figure out the paybacks based on the paytables, like video poker. There are many variables, your friend may have hit an 8 spot or something, which will keep you going for a while, and he may have received a lot of freeplay which will also keep you going for a while. He may also be a Keno shark, there are certain progressives and bonus machines etc. that are overlays. Keno comes in many flavors, so generally overlays can be found if you look carefully. As for bingo, there are freeroll bingo tournaments, so I guess that would be "potential AP" though personally I don't really know what an "AP" is, other than some bad person that casinos think they have to eliminate at all costs. I know what a professional gambler is, like Bob Dancer, but even he has to keep other gigs going to help pay for his gambling instead of just enjoying retirement playing bingo. But certainly any freeroll tournament is an overlay. "Overlay" is a term I understand. Also there are tournaments which return all fees, plus an add on, these would be overlays. Casinos regularly do overlays for promotional purposes.

Every time MLife sends me an offer, it's a huge hassle to actually book. I call the number directly on the mailer and they always have no idea what I'm talking about, even given the offer code and player card number. They tell me to email them a copy of the offer. My host also refuses to book anything that isn't on his property. Great system!

As bad as Caesar's bureaucracy can be, and they are pretty bad, MGM is FAR worse.

I don't have a lot of experience with MLife since June was my first real
trip there. I thought I had played a pretty decent amount for one trip and
did manage to get some items comped off at the end of the trip (I've got a
trip report here). I haven't received any offers other than the standard
"rooms starting at $X" so I called last night to find out if there was
anything worthwhile. I didn't ask for a host, just the VIP booking line.
The gentleman at Mirage told me I had a better offer than what was showing
online, but frankly it wasn't much......3 free nights Sun-Thurs with $100
free play and $100 resort credit.

I then called MGM because I thought it might be nice to try that property.
They gentleman there was a jerk. He said he didn't have any offers (even
though I gave him the code I saw online). He gave me the "rack rate" for
MLife members. I said I was surprised there wasn't some better discount
after my last trip at the Mirage and he said "I can transfer you over
there." Um, no thanks, I can do that myself.

So, I've had some not so pleasant experiences and some nice ones with MLife
in a short time. What I am finding so far is that I don't like to have to
ask for something. Why wasn't that Mirage offer online? Would have been
easier for me. So, I like the ease of booking rooms with Total Rewards
(we're comped across the board with the exception of CP for New Year's
Eve....they've even now started comping Nobu rooms). However, TR doesn't
give away a lot in bonus credits these days which is what we always used to
comp our food.

I'm burned out on TR hotels right now, but I'm not liking having to hunt
down MLife offers either. So, not sure what I'll be doing next. I will
probably try an actual host at MLife next time, but need to have some solid
dates in mind.
