Zuma has been around for years and includes skill based bonus rounds. There are others, but part of the skill is finding them.

[vpFREE] Re: Medicare shocker coming 2016 (due to gambling income)

The estimates from the Baird report are probably wrong. Financial advisors and the media like to get everyone worked up. Your Congress will decide the increase and they don't like to irritate the Medicare crowd because they vote at a higher rate.

The penalty for not enrolling or dropping Medicare Part B is only 10% for each year you do not enroll. So if you want to wait till age 66 instead of age 65 you will pay $115.40 per month, but you will save 104.90 x12 = $1258.80 or more if your gambling W-2s cause a higher premium.

The extra premiums are re-determined each year based on your adjusted gross income from 2 years ago in most cases. You have options to change your gambling or not enroll till a later time to avoid the high premiums.

First of all, thanks to videopoker@twcny.rr.com mariettatom for bringing
this to our attention.

Almost everything that was posted was accurate. I decided to check the
amount of the increase & found that's the only part of the post that is in
limbo since the increases have not been decided yet & won't be for a month or
two. This is a summary of what I found out:

MAGI = Modified Adjusted Gross Income

MAGI Single MAGI Married 2015 Part B Premium
Projected 2016 Part B Premium

Under $85,000 Under $170,000 $104.90
$159.30
{several income levels}

over $214,0000 Over $428,000 $335.70
$509.80

As you can see, at the HIGHEST income level the increase is $174.10/month
or $2089.20/uear. These are the estimates from a Baird report:

http://content.rwbaird.com/RWB/Content/PDF/Insights/Whitepapers/The-Medicare
-Hold-Harmless-Provision.pdf

Even if it's more, the damage doesn't look too bad. The report mentions
some special cases that can avoid the premium increase & I'm in one of those
cases but I'm not going to do anything about it because I like to use KISS
on my financial planning.

If you aren't in Medicare or don't know what I'm talking about then skip to
the next post because the only advice that applies is to read up on it &
be sure not to miss the sign-up window for Medicare BEFORE you turn 65
otherwise CUMULATIVE MONTHLY penalties will be incurred when you do sign up.

"hold harmless provision" of Medicare says that if cola payments do not
go up for social security (like 2016), the Medicare rates cannot be
increased for most medicare people. How are they going to pay for this. The
provision says that the cost to cover all the base line medicare people will be
paid for by the people on medicare that fall into the higher income
categories.
How much are we talking? How about over $1,000 per month for the over
$214,000 income category. Some would say if you had over $214,000 in income you
should be able to pony up $12,000 a year to help those who can not afford
it. Well, we leave the political discussion out of this now.
What is particularly onerous is that because medicare uses line 37 on the
1040, this means they include gambling winnings prior to the offset from
schedule A which gets subtracted after line 37. If you have $50,000 in
income from SS and a pension, w-2g's for $200,000, you have a line 37 income of
$250,000. This is your medicare income basis. If on schedule A you have
$200,000 in loses, your net income you pay taxes on is $50,000.
If I am right, someone with a $50,000 income will be paying over $12,000
for medicare, which will come directly out of their SS check.
This will be a shock and a disaster for many.

Re: [vpFREE] Re: Vegas Inc: Nev. casinos find ways to add skill-based games

Put it this way I lost less. Whenever I hit a bonus round when I had to answer trivia questions I got the biggest prize for that question by getting the answer right on the first try. I was a lot of fun, and I felt that I got the best deal that I could get, by playing well. Another game with a skill component that is still around in small quantities is cash king checkers, where making the best moves rewards you earns more credits.

Re: [vpFREE] Not getting offers from recent trip - Vegas.

Always best to use two different addresses... Everyone I know uses one as  a p.oo. box, and one as address at home. Works fine..most offers come in identical.

Recent Vegas trip I signed up as new player in few places. My wife also has her own
card, newly signed up. She plays about same as I do, handle wise. She got one offer in mail.
I am getting offers from all properties. Some pretty nice. Since it's almost a month, she is
getting angry as a hornet. She is even thinking; Casinos discriminate because she's
female and the guys get offers, if same address. I'm not sure if she's right , but it is suspicious.
Maybe only offer per address, but that doesn't seem right to do that. Different account numbers
should generate different offers. One property had different sign up date, in addition to different
number. Any ideas why?

Cheers......Jeep

Re: [vpFREE] Not getting offers from recent trip - Vegas.

A lot of casinos limit the number of offers provided to the same mailing address. As to why you got them and she didn't, could be alphabetical, could be the sexism she suspects, could be earlier signup, who knows. But this is one of the many reasons it's worth maintaining a separate private mailbox.

I have a couple friends who take it a step further. And they maintain a mailbox in the town where their kids live, so one of them gets the "locals" offers and the other gets the "out of towners" offers. Almost everything is internet based these days and they rarely need the physical mailing piece anyway (but if they do it's an excuse for mama to see the babies).

RE: [vpFREE] Royal Flusher The Eyes of Money Trip

RFJust started reading and loved that you flew out of Water town NY's airport. I have flown thru there many times to visit my mother in Potsdam NY since its much closer than via Syracuse... and forget the customs hassle flying into via Ottawa or Montreal.Dont you love how small that airport is? 2-4 flights a day or whatever it is via Useless Air / American or whatever they are called & its always thru Philadelphia where you need to take the stupid tram for 20 mins to the big boy terminal.....All i can say is dont think you can eat at the airport since its only the vending machine. Baggage claim and security are always a breeze at least.
The last time I flew out of there earlier this year, it was so windy (30-40 mph) that they couldnt keep the doors next to the xray machine closed and it took 1 TSA person and 1 maintenance person to hold them shut since it was inside the "secure" gate area....no one had the key to lock it shut...they ended up getting two cinder blocks to do the job.Cant wait to read the rest!
Will be hitting LV myself over Thanksgiving, (ours not yours) and staying at Green Valley Ranch.Hope you hit that Loonie Royal this trip....or better yet a Toonie
John in Houston (formerly Detroit)

[vpFREE] Re: What is most memorable hit, not counting first royal?

Didn't happen to me, but I watched it.

In Frontier a guy playing $1 machine was holding 2 Qs. He missed hold pair and
drew only one, losing the going in pair. Cost him 5 bucks. The draw filled in a diamond
Royal. Nice screw up.

Cheers....Jeep

[vpFREE] XVP -- Payless car rental discount

If you join the payless rewards program, you get 5% off your rental ( same as AAA, AARP, etc). There is a Southwest Rapid Rewards code, SWP060, that will get you an additional 10% off and you can use both your rewards discount and the Southwest discount on the same rental.

Payless is a low cost rental car company and there are some disadvantages to using them. But, if cost is your main concern, this method will save you 15% off an already discount rental car company.

I have a rental for 4 days in Las Vegas ( 10/30 - 11/3), economy car for $78, including everything.
