It's not quite clear in the article but can someone confirm the points earned (3 pts = $1 coin) are base points? If they're lowering gambling thresholds for upper tiers then both factors will make it much easier to get President/Chairman status.
It looks like they're looking to compete with South Point for best in town base slot club rate (0.30%) and FP video poker. Better mailers and a higher frequency of multiplier days would make Stations VP a bit juicier.

[vpFREE] Priceline bids and resort fees

This was true at least as of July this year, based on personal experience.
Priceline blames the hotels, and the hotels blame Priceline.
I think this is bullshit on both sides for various reasons, but bottom
line, I have had some success calling my credit card and explaining why I
think surprise resort fee sprung on people when they are in no position to
argue* is bullshit, and my CC companies have generally agreed and reversed
the charges for me.
So if enough people start doing this, maybe policies will change.
*Yes, Priceline warns you when you submit a bid that resort fees might get
added on. I don't feel this is a defense, because you don't know when you
submit the bid whether a resort fee will be added, and bids are binding.
Are you truly naming your own price then?
Googling shows this is hardly a recent complaint, so I guess it isn't
actionable.
Priceline blames the hotels, but I feel at a minimum Priceline should
attempt to maintain a list of places that charge resort fees, and either
warn you if your zone/star criteria might include resort fees, or let you
specify that you want to exclude properties with resort fees. Otherwise
you don't find out until you are potentially far from home and have zero
bargaining power.
Meanwhile the hotels blame Priceline, but if you ask me they are just as
responsible. A bid of $X should mean $X, not $X+$Y. If they won't
settle for less than $X+$Y then they have no business accepting a bid
of $X.
So to reiterate, my suggestion if this happens to you on a
name-your-own-price stay, is to explain politely why you think it is
wrong, sign the charge slip under protest, then call your CC afterward
and try to get it reversed.

Re: [vpFREE] Re: VegasInc: Station Casinos revamps Boarding Pass perks to entice gamblers
Station Casinos announced today a revamped Boarding Pass loyalty program for
gamblers that is part of a bigger effort to draw customers with bigger perks
after emerging from Chapter 11 bankruptcy this year.
The program is expected to cost the company more money by giving gamblers
more and better freebies and comes at a time when many local casinos are
staying the course with cost-cutting efforts. While gambling revenue appears
to have stabilized after a precipitous fall the past couple of years,
business remains depressed, with many local casinos noticeably empty during
the day and picking up at night and on weekends.
"You have to invest in the future," Station Casinos Chief Operating Officer
Kevin Kelley said. "It's a very competitive environment out there and guests
are focused on value every single day. We don't want to give them any
excuses to go elsewhere."
The new Boarding Pass program will give gamblers on most casino games three
points for every dollar spent instead of one point, allowing them to rack up
points faster for free meals and other offerings across the company's 18
casinos. Station also will give gamblers $1 for every 1,000 points — money
customers can take home, with no obligation to spend it in the casino. And
the company is lowering the gambling threshold to qualify for upper tiers
within the loyalty program — a separate perk with additional rewards for
bigger gamblers.
Industry experts call it a bold move to win back the business of customers
who may have been tempted by better deals elsewhere.
"They looked at the economic landscape, with a lot of casinos reining in
what they're offering, and decided that now is the best time to strike,"
said Anthony Curtis, publisher of the Las Vegas Advisor newsletter. "They're
doing things that I've always said companies should do in a downturn."
After a painful restructuring process, Station needs to win over customers
who have been disillusioned by efforts to reduce and cheapen offerings,
Curtis said.
"This is an amazing investment. They're putting their money where their
mouth is ... they're also competing in a tough economy and they need their
bedrock customer."

Re: [vpFREE] Guinness World Record at Cathay House, Palms?
I'd like to share with the group that I treated fellow ex-pat New Yorkers to
Cathay house at Palms ( PS - there are no signs, its in the back of the
coffee shop ) for a chinese meal. The service was excellent for a crowded
Friday night ( empty coffee shop BTW ), and we had a feast for four
including drinks for about $50. They said that this place was as good as our
favorite place in Flushing Queens ( big chinatown district ). The no frills
restaurant was about 80% asian, but we perceived no discrimination
whatsoever and super great service from the cute as a button chinese
waitress. The Evening menu is limited however with about 25 different
selections , but that number jumps up to over 100 at lunchtime.
best ...Tom
PS - I once waited over an hour fifteen minutes at a 100% white restaurant
in Vermont in 1989. When my steak finally arrived , it was extra extra char
burned. I did not get charged for it, and the manager gave me a coupon for a
free meal the next time in town. I never went back !

Hope this isn't too off topic but I entered Cathay House at 7:05 pm since
I was checking time for another reason.
Waiter did not take order until 7:23 pm. By 8:05 p.m. Chinese couple next to
me
who had come in later and ordered later, was served and eating a couple of
dishes.
Left without food arriving and I wondered what is the world record for
length of time to have a
relatively simple dish of food served.
BTW, I am not Chinese.

Sorry to come into this thread way late, but I'll throw in my 0.02 anyway.
I, as a non-pro, am willing to take the hit in EV to find games that BOTH give me the comps I am looking for and suit my tolerance for volatility. When I vacation to Vegas, I look for a level of excitement that fits my personality, and that takes into account keeping my pyschological bankroll at an acceptably high level.
That being said, unless the trip is horrible, I come in at above 100% when comps and cashback are factored in. In 27 trips, I've had a few like that, but for the most part, it works for me.

[vpFREE] Re: Is Stations still giving locals multiple point days.
Only playing slots. Regular video poker players get in the 3x-4x range.

If you played in July then you get a mailer in September, August's play for October mailer, etc. If you skip playing a month, even if you put in a million points the previous month, you will probably not get a mailer or multipliers. Also if you play slots you get higher multipliers than if you play video poker.

Little Buddha was our favorite also. Try Veloce Cibo at the M casino. The sushi there is even better (especially the "Surf and Turf" roll with Kobe beef!). The view of Vegas is also amazing.
