Sorry to come into this thread way late, but I'll throw in my 0.02 anyway.
I, as a non-pro, am willing to take the hit in EV to find games that BOTH give me the comps I am looking for and suit my tolerance for volatility. When I vacation to Vegas, I look for a level of excitement that fits my personality, and that takes into account keeping my pyschological bankroll at an acceptably high level.
That being said, unless the trip is horrible, I come in at above 100% when comps and cashback are factored in. In 27 trips, I've had a few like that, but for the most part, it works for me.
