[vpFREE] Re: Pseudorandom number or just random - is there difference

hi

In the canadian keno deal.  I "suspect" an onboard battery was dead in one machine.
Thus doing a reset every time powered down.  Today all bookkeeping, stats & exact spot of shut down
are probably remembered.  Especially if temporary power outage. Power comes on &  loss or jackpot
is still there.

Si Redd, founder of IGT, made a vp game called Draw 80 before forming IGT. That game was used in many bars in many states.  If put a quarter in it, pulled the plug and found the credit was gone; machine was
reset.  The same 5 cards were dealt .  Playing a set hold and discard pattern allowed one to beat the machine.  This was before casino use. Geeze the first draw 80s had  black & white tVs in them.

Pseudorandom
I believe random is random.  So why call it pseudorandom.  I think natural random makes more sense. In this case, any change from a true deck of live cards is change to favor the house, not players.  I've heard
it's done so regulators can check the machines for fairness. Sometime I feel the games are programed to grind the player down.  My imagination tells me a 4kd brings an onslaught of losing hands, usually lasting
till 3/4 of the hit is gone.  It's very rare today to sit at a machine playing  the whole day.  Therefore, they are programed to pass the random testing.  Intentionally programing a game to be "super" random ???

Finally.....  Does a deck of cards have to be dealt by a mathematical  engineer  to be random??

Cheers to all.... A fun rant about random...   Jeep

Re: [vpFREE] Re: Tourist things to do? In Vegas or reasonable driving distance?

Another idea to visit the Grand Canyon is to take the train from Williams AZ.
You stay over night at the hotel next to the train station.  They have various packages.
We did a package with 1st night at Williams, 2nd night at a GC lodge, 3rd night back at Williams.  Most meals were included.  Two blocks from the Williams hotel is the Route 66 tourist experience.

Barring unusual circumstances or frequent stops it's more like 4.5-5 hours, one-way, from LV to either Rim. The South Rim is a lot more built up in terms of places to stay and facilities and is probably better for a first timer, but the North Rim is still a great place to visit, and my preference between the two. It's more laid back, and because it's at higher elevation when you look from North to South you get to see the plateau approaching the Rim before the dropoff.

But it's hard to go wrong either way, and I agree it's an absolute must-see-in-person experience!

Isn't always a good idea to put a few extra points on -- especially when playing for a promo/offer etc -
just as insurance?  It could really a penny-wise but pound-foolish experience. . . .  just my 2 cents. . . . .

You might have fallen into a trap. Casinos think that players who play the exact minimum for a promotion are just comp hustlers, it's always a good idea to play slightly more than the minimum. This is an example where it pays to pay attention to the metagame rather then get lost in the details of just video poker or whatever slot you're playing.

Re: [vpFREE] Re: Tourist things to do? In Vegas or reasonable driving distance?

If you have NEVER been to the Grand Canyon -- you MUST go!  It's about an 8 hour
drive from Vegas.  An option would be to drive to Laughlin and stay overnite there and
then get started early in the am to GC.  It's about a 4-5+  hour drive from Laughlin.  If
you want to stay overnite IN the park you have to book about a year ahead but there are
many properties just out-side the park entrance in Tusayan AZ that you can book on much
shorter notice.  Once you get into the park -- if you go AFTER Sept 30 the internal buses
stop running and you can drive your own vehicle to the look-out points.  We went once in
Feb (yes there was some snow on the ground) and at times we were the ONLY people at
most of the lookout points.  I'd say it would be a very LONG day if you drove to and from
the GC in one day from Vegas.  Another option would be to drive from Vegas and then drive
back to Laughlin (for a same day trip) and stay overnite there.  (especially if you can get
free rooms at Harrahs or any of the other properties in Laughlin)  I'm not sure how much
time you want to spend at the Grand Canyon or what your budget considerations are.  We
spent a full day at the Canyon just driving to all the lookouts and viewing from there.  We
didn't do any hiking, lectures or mule rides and we felt like we still really saw the GC.  It
is a most amazing view.  If you're over 62 you have your National Parks Senior Pass--right?
Good for you and up to 4 (I think) others.  Enjoy!  Jean H

"Is it worth the time?"     Absolutely!    The Grand Canyon cannot be captured in a photograph.   You have to see it to experience it.   I doubt you'll be disappointed, no matter how long it takes to get there.

IMO, it's much better to see it from the South Rim, especially if it's your first visit.   When you come in from the North, you travel through other canyons and somewhat similar terrain.   But approaching from the South, you drive through forest pretty much until you pop out on the edge of this humongous hole in the Earth.

Hi all

just tried Ultimate x..   Don't want to rush into  games.  Generally, is there any good playable games?  The game I believe is loaded with crazy strategy?  I like Quick Quads.  But play mostly "regular" games.

I am ready to step up from  old Dancer  tutorial. I like Dancer , but no new games.  Whats latest and greatest? Looking for software for MacBook Air or MAYBE  iPhone .  I lean more to computer because ease of play
using keyboard .
