The MGM fire was in the Fall of '80.

All very good points. I'm so old I remember the MGM (now Bally's) fire that was so bad back in the early to mid 80's as I recall. We also benefited greatly by the Monte Carlo fire from the roof that caught the fake Styrofoam on the building façade on fire and gutted the top floor. After they remodeled the top floor it became Hotel32 and we stayed there a ton for the next 3 years. Fantastic suites, great automation and showers, etc.. Unfortunately our host because weird and rude after the 3 years so our secondary casino to Harrah's became the Palms until the Cosmo opened, now its been our secondary casino in LV. Maybe we are kind of a fire jinx for casino's in LV :(

I'm not an authority on Memphis. I overnighted there on a road trip to NO a few months ago. As I recall, the Gibson factory is fairly close to the Beale street scene. You will need transport between there and Sun. I would also consider the Stax Museum. The Stax label is one of the more remarkable stories in American music. It's a good museum and well worth the time.
