[vpFREE] Tax question

Funny that Jean's post about her book just popped up as I started to write this. I am actually reading the book, but I had a couple of questions.

I am going to just file an extension but I'm trying to figure out how much estimated tax I should send in. I have a job but made more than that with video poker last year, spent more time playing VP, and have logs to show it. There's no question that I can file as a professional, right?

Also, with respect to freeplay, gifts, and comps it was an eye opener to me that gifts and comps really don't have to be reported. A couple of questions though... say I get a coupon for $50 dining in my mailer or through some kiosk promotion. Does this have to be reported if I use it?

Also, a much bigger question, what about points that you have? For example say you have 1000 players club points that can be turned into $1000 freeplay, $1000 dining, $1000 cash back, or $1000 in gift certificates. For each of these scenarios, would it be proper to report or not report it?

Re: [vpFREE] online poker bot, supposedly unbeatable ...

I've been following this project for 8 years now. Even back then it was
good enough to beat--or at least play even with--the best heads-up limit
hold'em players in the world. It is better now.

They claim it's essentially perfect, and while I haven't independently
verified the claim, I have absolutely no reason to doubt it. Their
methodology seems sounds, both in how they derived the strategy and how
they test for it's distance from the optimal strategy.

None of these top limit hold 'em players I'm referring to doubts the claim,
at least not to my knowledge, and several of them explicitly endorse it.
These are smart people and this is a result 15 years in the making.

The web interface is clunky, so it's kind of academic b/c it's not feasible
to play many many hands against it.

I think they made some calculation mistakes or they dumbed down the online bot for some reason. It doesn't take falls like the IGT bot to try to get you to keep playing but I think some of its lines become too narrow and too readable, a mistake the IGT bot also makes. Have you tried playing it? I'm not arguing that the optimal strategy would still be exploitable, I'm arguing that it's not quite optimal strategy yet, for some reason. University of Alberta hasn't published all the details, so they might be holding back for some reason, like maybe they hope to get some big stakes challenges.

I promise you can't beat it long-term. It plays within 1 big blind per 1000
hands of the optimal strategy.

Re: [vpFREE] Re: A Keno Math Problem

When the 4 machine picks hit there are 4 different things that can happen. If the game is in Free Games, Multiplier, Extra Draws mode (FME), which is the ultimate objective of this play, then you will be awarded however many games the meter is on, whatever multiplier the meter is on, and however many extra draws the meter is on. Once you play it off the meters will reset to 5-2-3. The game is in this mode for an average of 138 games.

The next mode it will move to is Free Games, Extra Draws (FE). If you hit the solid 4 here then you are awarded however many free games are in the meter plus however many extra draws are in the meter. Plus a 2X multiplier. Once you play it off the Free Games and Extra Draws meters will reset to 5 and 3. But the Multiplier meter will stay where it is. The game is in this mode for an average of 138 games.

Not hitting the solid 4 in FE mode the game will move to Free Games, Multiplier mode (FM). If you hit the solid 4 here you are awarded however many free games are in the meter plus whatever multiplier is in the meter plus 2 extra draws. Once you play it off the Free Games and Multiplier meters will reset to 5 and 2 but the Extra Draws meter will stay where it is. The game is in FM mode for an average of 158 games.

Not hitting the solid 4 in FM mode the game will move to Progressive mode. The PRG starts at 20 bets and per the average 4 bets will be added every time you catch the pink tab or once every 158 games. This equates to 2.5% meter movement. When you hit the solid 4 here you are awarded the money in the meter. And the great thing about hitting it is it doesn't reset the Free Games, Multiplier and Extra Draws meters. I'm always getting built up money from past players in this meter and it cuts the drop from 21.74% to 17.5%. The game is in this mode for an average of 118 games.

Then the cycle starts all over again with FME.

So now its time to develope a strategy for the game, i.e., minimum playable numbers. Later posts.
