You can stare at the stats but my $1 9/6 play never had anywhere near that swing. My typical $5-10k session is plus or minus $1-200. So I let the anecdotal trump them impirical. I am not the only guilty of that. I also had an idea of trying to make up that lost EV at a invitation only multiplier event.
I live in NYC so my options are slimmer than in NV.

I can certainly grasp your frustration!

Now, prefacing this question by admitting "hindsight is 20/20", what suggested to you that acquiring DIAD at CLV on the $5 JB was a decent proposition?

The machines there are thinly rated, so $40k coin-in on the 9/6 jb might get you an occasional offer worth $100. Is it really worth setting yourself up for a good shot at a $2500+ session loss for the sake of dia lounge access and such offers? < not in my book, especially when play opportunities in other venues pose less risk and yield access to greater offers for the same play volume >

Re: [vpFREE] Re: Bob Dancer's LV Advisor Column - 4 JUN 2013

I have received cashier vouchers from many casinos when obtaining markers, and they
have always been cashable just like machine vouchers. I prefer them, don't like wasting
time stuffing $100's into a machine or flashing large wads of cash.

Regards

A.P.

Further to Bob's point about "walking with a marker", many clubs--all MGM properties and TI for two examples that I can personally verify--have a fairly effective way of preventing this. Any markers taken out in the high limit slot rooms are only issued in tickets and therefore must be played through the machines at least once.

This is a policy that has changed in maybe the last four or five years. In former times, cash was an available option. I thought that the change was the result of enhanced enforcement of the federal money laundering laws, but I am sure that Bob is correct in saying that it serves the casinos' purposes as well Very high rollers may be given cash if they demand it, I think.

The same policy is applied to funds wired to one's casino credit account. If it is withdrawn for machine play, it must be in ticket form--at least at MGM properties. I have no idea how this is handled at table games.

As a result of this policy, neither markers nor wire transfers are exactly an effective substitute for carrying large amounts to cash to Vegas to play as you wish.

[vpFREE] Re: xvp lottery

Yes, an occasional $20 is less than pocket change to many folks.
$20/week OTOH not so much to too many. Suppose it's really ~$10 to $15/week after various wins.

Was an engineer on a building project and got friendly with the contractor's manager. We chatted about gambling and he pulls out a booklet on the lottery. He was printing booklets and selling them at lotto stores and on the internet. These were geared for the Massachusetts Lottery (which has an E.V. of ~70%; one of the best).

Had a somewhat convincing 5 minute spiel; including the talking point E.V. can get relatively attractive. No, he didn't learn FPVP strategy and join this group after my 5 minute presentation :-)

But selling booklets is a way to make money on lotteries.

Well that's to be expected. My friend hit pretty well on the Reno airport slots on the way into town last year.

[vpFREE] xvp lottery

There have been some posts under another subject line as to whether or not the lottery is a "good play" or not. Of course, it almost always is not in terms of positive EV.

However, at 175,000,000 to 1, and figuring cash option and taxes take you down to about 30-35% of the stated jackpot, a jackpot of $500,000,000 or more is approaching break-even EV. That's pretty close to what the latest winner hit, but that was a record.

Of course, this rough estimate includes an (unjustified) assumption that there is only one winner, and a disregard for all the smaller prizes.

Personally, I am willing to take the worst of it with an occ. Powerball purchase -- but I do wait for jackpots of $200,000,000 or more before I buy. I'm still figuring I'm giving away half to three fourths of my money if I do this forever, but in my lifetime, it's not the worst way I've ever wasted money, and it's certainly the only way I'm going to get $50 million in my bankroll :)

I cap my purchases at $20, so it's not going to put much downside in my lifestyle. I do feel sorry for people who understand this so poorly that they (literally!) mortgage the house and buy thousands of tickets. It's no MORE stupid than what I'm doing, but the SCALE is much larger, and therefore they are left hurting when they don't win, while I don't even notice that I have $10 or $20 less in my pocket that week.
