[vpFREE] Re: Where to go....?? Suggestions appreciated

I'm leaving Saturday for a week in Las Vegas. I'm a low level Diamond player and got 4 free nights at the Rio, then 1 free night at Harrah's with the last 2 nights costing around $90 (but actual cost slightly over $50 paying with comps worth 4/7). I have no free play there, and either way wouldn't give them a penny of my play, other than taking advantage of their coupon books if they still have them. Last time I asked for more and they had no problem giving them to me. Probably made over $100 off of the free play.

You should definitely stay at a Caesars property and collect your free play, and also ask for extra coupon books, but I see no reason to play there. You obviously did something to earn that free play, so why lose it?

I would suggest the Palms, which is a short walk from the Rio if you don't have a car. I play 9/6 JOB, and they have 0.25% back in free play. They seem to have a lot of promotions, but you have to make sure you play at a machine that qualifies. Some of the 9/6 JOB machines say that they don't qualify, the others do. I once got a $200 gift card that amounted to another 0.25%. If you have to get a bulky gift that you don't want to take on the plane, you can probably get a gift card instead, but for a lesser cash back return. I think once I also earned a wine glass, but I said that I didn't want to take it on the plane and they gave me a $10 gift card instead.

They seem to be pretty nice about things. I went online and completed a survey, and I got 5000 points ($12.50 in play at 400 points/$1) that expired on July 30. I called and asked what time they expire, explaining that my flight is coming in late and I might not get there until 1 or 2 AM. They said that the offer was good until midnight, but they told me they were just going to add the points to my card and I would have them available whenever I showed up. I don't think most casinos would do that, and definitely not where I normally play in Atlantic City.

The Palms has very good buffet deals, especially on certain days of the week, and it is cheaper if you pay with comps instead of redeeming them for free play.

I'm not suggesting that this is the best place, and I'm no expert and only go once every year or two. But I happen to like it there and think I'm getting a good return on my play if not necessarily at 100%.

Another option would be to stay at Caesar's, use the free play, but don't play there.Use the time to establish yourself at other properties and see what offers come for the future.

A.P.

You could double book - even if you don't stay at CZR, still redeem the free play. Seems worth one trip there even if you just get the room key and never go to it. I do this regularly.

[vpFREE] Where to go?

If you don't mind losing status at Caesars in Vegas, just take the $350 free play and stay somewhere like the Rio, then walk next door to Gold Coast or across street to play at Palms. GC also has a shuttle to the Linq and Orleans. If you want to stay where you play, then pick somewhere else like M, Red Rock Stations, Green Valley Ranch, south Point as other people have suggested.

Palms has been bought by stations, no notice yet when the change will be final, but possibly playing there now will get you on the Stations mailing list later.

[vpFREE] Re: Bob Dancer Column - 26 JUL 2016

Ray made a lot of money playing high stakes poker in Nevada well before the poker boom. Then he bought a ranch east of Whitefish, Montana and has been there ever since. He still plays in the Montana games but rarely travels out of state. When asked why he passed on the poker boom he says he has already made his money and lives where he is happiest.

Sklansky and Malmuth respected his O8 and Stud8 play so much they asked him to write the book on it. Zee is not his real last name. I can't remember what it is but it starts with a Z and is a long Italian sounding name. He got the name Ray Zee because that's how he put his name on the waiting lists to get into the cash games in Nevada.

There is a thread on 2 + 2 called From Ray to Zee. Anyone can converse with Ray through the thread. You will see in the thread that Ray is really into nature.

Sorry, my message got sent before I was finished -- do you know how he got his expertise if he didn't leave Montana -- although one can be a good poker player "at home" one can't really claim expertise, I wouldn't think, if you haven't played in various venues, since the game is different in varying places and with different opponents.

I assume that's the same "Ray Zee" who wrote a couple of poker books via Two Plus Two publishing?  When I googled the familiar name, "Ray Zee" was identified as his pen name.  "Passing" on the poker boom does not sound like what one has done when one writes books on the subject, so I'm not sure what you meant by that -- and would be interested to know -- since you mention not wanting to leave Northern Montana, I assume you mean he didn't move / spend a lot of time in Vegas and the other poker venues?

Ray Zee has a ranch just a little east of Whitefish. Ray is a famous old poker player from back in the day in Nevada. Though many people tried to talk him into it he passed on the poker boom.  The guy just doesn't like leaving Northern Montana.  Doyle and Todd visit with him when they are up this way.

I'd stay at H's, collect the $350, play small amount. Play at your two other choices, then you'll have offers from them for your next trip.
