[vpFREE] Re: $2 9/6 JOB

Maybe for others this (Bellagio paytable downgrade of $2 jb) is an event with consequence; non-eventful for me since I don't play it anymore.

Around 2 years ago I came in on a 1-night stay and put approx 100k through in wagers. Outstanding session, hitting a rf and pocketing all but $60 of it at cash out.

The consequence the next month was that my monthly non-local MGM LV mailer was reduced from a modest $300 to $75. Haven't considered Bellagio playable since.

at the Bellagio had the $2 denomination changed to 8/5.
Someone might want to confirm this.

But one could certainly generate a strategy at say half a royal (400bets) and then ask the question: at what amount of promotion would this strategy be better than maxEV, and so on. Negative values are also plausible. One could imagine a scenario where hitting another W2G conflicts with SS or Medicare or an income based benefit and the result could easily be a strong net negative. Many people would choose to not gamble, but there may be an optimal strategy that allows one to continue gambling even when a W2G is a net negative after taxes.

My reply: Hard for me to imagine such a scenario. Even if a royal W-2G results in an increased Medicare Part B premium for the ensuing year (and a corresponding decrease in one's Soc Sec), the negative effect will most likely last one year. And the W-2G winnings will almost certainly cover the reduced SS income with a major portion of the winnings left over.

Re: [vpFREE] Question about the Westin

I was told by a host at Bellagio, out of towners spend far more $, and ask for less. I find this hard to believe because I am from Southern California, and we have soooooo many casinos now, many are not going to Vegas...California has the same  machines, same rooms, ( even look like they are  furnished by the same companies, gifts, food, entertainer's,and etc. I don't get it. I still enjoy getting away, and going to Vegas.  I always enjoy their offers!..seems lihe Vegas would Wang locals, just like our places do. :.............( constantly sending offers)

Well, that answers that. It's disappointing and I don't understand why they don't want to entice locals. But life goes on. Thank you for your reply and the information. Very helpful.

All the downgrades and reductions you list are true. The new Management Company that came in eliminated mailers in January 2014, at least for locals. I was getting 4 X $50 free play monthly at that time. I see no signs advertising promotions now when I visit. I still have some points and a couple thousand dollars in comps so I play a few points every few months to keep my account active.

RE: [vpFREE] Re: Bob Dancer's LVA Column - 19 JAN 2016

Stu asked: "... why would I want to give the casino any more money than I already am?"

Actually, your situation is even simpler. If your choice is between Jacks for quarters (0.46% casino hold) or Jacks with taxable royals (1.1% casino hold using the strategy found by setting the royal to zero, assuming the tax cancels the royal), then you would give the casino more money (play for the taxable royals) if you can get more than 1.1-0.46 = 0.64% in additional promotions for playing the taxable royals game. One way this might happen is with promotions based on daily play or play in a certain time period where the extra coin in counts. For example there might be a promotion where for earning so many points you get something, and you can't earn the points playing just quarters before the deadline.

The bottom line is that you'd be willing to give more, if you get more in return.

Maybe not everyone's choice, but why would I want to give the casino any more money than I already am?"

That's certainly a very reasonable approach. The only capitalist reason you would want to give the casino more money would be if they offer better promotions for more money. If you can get the promotions just playing quarters, then just play quarters. On the other hand, if the promotions for more play are good enough (more than 1.6% total promotions for playing jacks) then you could "win more" by playing up. If your tax situation is such that you lose 100% of a taxable royal, then the real value of a royal to you is zero, and the appropriate strategy to play would be the strategy found by setting the royal to its real value for you, namely zero. I guess it tugs at the heart strings to think of a royal as having no value, but that is the cold hard capitalist truth, in some situations.

Try and join the Landry's Select Club before you check in. It is worth another level of upgraded room (subj to avail.)

I think that when they combing the restaurants with the various casinos it might not rise to the level of an AP, but a subsidized vacation for big diners.

[vpFREE] Re: Golden Nugget?

Hi Sylvia,

In the case of the Nugget, I see no harm in being honest with the host. My experience there is that hosting services are spotty at best, and GN tends to send good offers, then renege on some of them. After they screwed up my last offer, I took my $750 gift card and walked.

If you take an offer and don't play, they will flag you, and it may be difficult to book anything after that. But considering that their room/suite offerings cannot match what you'll get at CZR properties, it's not a place where I'd recommend "investing" your play.

Good Luck!

[vpFREE] Golden Nugget?

My husband and I decided we wanted to spend a few nights downtown Las Vegas on our next trip. Golden Nugget had been sending me some nice offers since I signed up for their new players club under their offer to match tier status other casinos.I am 7 stars at Caesars properties. A few weeks ago I booked 2 nights at Golden Nugget as part of our trip. Shortly after that I noticed in the updates they downgraded all their JOB. Is there anything even remotely playable there now? I hate to stiff them and usually I like to give the place I'm staying most of my play. I did go through a host who seems very nice but I have not really established a relationship with her. If she asks why I am not playing should I be honest with her? I know there are still good places to play downtown but not necessarily places I want to stay (yeah, I'm a spoiled little princess!) so I will probably keep my reservation.

Sylvia
