[vpFREE] Moving to LV

It is not a good idea to move to a specific area for one casino because things change a lot nowadays. I live in a great area called Spring Valley...near Jones and Flamingo. They are building some homes now on a lot right on Flamingo (by Nora's Italian restaurant) for low $300,000 according to sign. If anyone is looking right now, this is a great area. I had my house built 18 years ago on the next street over for $280k, watched value go up to 500k, then fall to about 225k when recession hit now back up to 330-360K. Walking distance to 2 bus lines, library, post office...about 1/2 mile to big grocery (my husband walks it almost daily), very quiet area, and people don't move because it is so nice and close in to the strip, Chinatown, etc.

Anyway, from here I quickly can go via bus (or my mobility scooter) to Palms, Gold Coast, Rio, oRleans, and strip. At various times good promos were found at one or other of these, that later changed.

Moving to Summerlin you have Red Rock Station and Suncoast.

And so on. Green Valley Ranch is a little more isolated.

But my point is that things change. And gambling really shouldn't be the only consideration as to where to move. You can change gambling location via car, Uber, Lyft, taxi or bus! (Also we have door to door Paratransit for $3 each way if you have mobility problems...something to think about when retiring.

Right now things are changing a lot with Caesars being bought. The Rio was just sold but will remain in a total rewards system for awhile. Palms became a Stations. Circus circus was sold. Downtown some casinos are changing. So you never know.

By the way I want to state it is a fallacy to believe you might get nomailed because of a royal or two. No way. I've had plenty. The no mail seems to go to people who are super careful to hit every advantage... play to the point of maximum for a drawing and then stop and go to every possible drawing. Or redeem free play constantly, but not play most of time. Or always play on multiple point days and never other days. Use all comps.. And generally do a lot of these actions, resulting in max comps and free play but not so much regular play. Yes winning a LOT of royals could be bad if you end up a big winner overall for the year, especially in concert with some of these other actions. Make a name for yourself by constantly winning drawings and you will come under more notice. Play only 99% VP and never a slot machine might bring more attention. But in my opinion it is normally some combination of actions that results in no mail.

Offers for free play are mostly dependent on how much you play, not really on win and loss. If you play 1 day in a month and pick up free play 6 times, eventually your daily average goes down. Or you hit some jackpot and just stop playing, well the amount on that day goes down. Also, casinos change their offer levels for a number of reasons. Caesars changed management and just decided it was giving away too much, and everyone's offers were lowered. If a casino wants more business in a off season, offers for food and $ may increase (Palms is giving away a ton of free buffets now to increase foot traffic). If they are crowded and winning $, offers could decrease. And so on.

Good luck with your move.

Gold Coast now has 11x points every Monday through Thursday. (Last month it was Sunday through Thursday.) I saw it on their billboard and it was in the kiosk today.

[vpFREE] Tim Ho Wan in Palms— review and other notes on the Palms.

Has finally opened. I dont expect crowd to last long. Very very limited menu of dim sum. No soups, no hot pots, no greens (except lettuce), no sesame rolls, no custard tarts-everyones favorite. 20 items only. I dont get the allure. No carts, all freshly made. No fried rice. No regular menu of Chinese, only dim sum which could be ok if there were a large selection.

I dont think Ping Pang Pong has any real competion. Most items $5, a few $8 and 10.

I had the spring rolls with egg and shrimp, very good. But no sweet and sour sauce available. Brisket/beef with noodles good, sort of my main course for lunch, decent portion for $8. Desert sweet pumpkin rolls with custard— disappointing. No flavor of custard or pumpkin. Were sprinkled with coconut which was not mentioned, giving a very mild coconut flavor.

Cost for my lunch with soda and tax—$25. I had a $10 off coupon.

Lots of cocktails and sake. Seems like it is open all day and quite late-perhaps more intended for snacks and a cocktail rather than a real all day restaurant.

Service was good. Did not take long to get food. Take home boxes were flimsy.

Side note...the Noodles place at Palms is now closed at lunch. I dont know why. I wanted to go there. I dont know if it still open at all.

AYCE buffet totally crowded with all the free buffets they are giving out. Expect 39-45 minute wait in vip line, longer for regular.

Word has it Palms not doing well with all the money spent on arty art (millions), DJ Marshmello's 60 million contract (he's out), etc.

They continue to not know how to market this as both a locals casino and nightcluber venue. They should have put in a good Chinese and dim sum restaurant to compete with Chinatown and Gold Coast From the get go. That place has too many expensive restaurants and a couple of them are very odd, like Bobby Flay's combination of sushi and Mexican food that is not good at either. And Green Street which I find very uninviting (maybe because I'm not under 30 years old). Since the buffet is so crowded they need a secondary, moderately priced restaurant, but unfortunately Tim Ho Wan does not fit the bill, since the selection is just not going to keep people coming back in my opinion.

I continue to not understand why stations does not market the palms with the rest of the stations casinos. It should just treat them all the same and use that one platform for advertising the locals market part of the Palms. It wastes money by having two separate promotional departments, mailings, and newspaper ads. And confuses patrons who want to use their offers at any stations casino. I have been confused several times by seeing ads in the paper for promotions that are not available at the Palms. If you're going to brand as a Stations, then promote as a Stations, and get the benefit. Perhaps run a bus Between red rock and the Palms to get some business at the Palms from Summerlin and outlying areas, And get some Strip visitors out to red rock.

Suffice it to say, I think this new restaurant is another marketing error. And on a personal level, Since I love dim sum and Chinese food, I am extremely disappointed. (Tonight I am going out to "Yummy" a restaurant at Rainbow and Tropicana and thankfully will get some delicious Chinese food and the won ton soup I am craving. I recommend it highly.)
