Re: [vpFREE] Zero Cust.. Ser. at Sam's Town LV

I thought he was kidding when he said that. Maybe he was. It's difficult to tell sometimes with just the written word and no facial expression. I have the same problem, when I write, it's often difficult to tell whether I am kidding or being an a-hole. No really, seriously, I know it's hard to believe.

This trend was established well before there were minimum wage raises! Stop the propaganda!

Get used to it. With higher minimum wages across the country, lower skill jobs will continue to be automated. We've already seen it with self checkouts and ATMs. The casinos around my area have replaced a lot of cocktail waitresses with serve yourself beverage stations. Pretty soon you'll be ordering from a kiosk at your local fast food chain. So it doesn't surprise me there wasn't a slot attendant to be found. Re: [vpFREE] Zero Cust.. Ser. at Sam's Town LV

I think both of you are missing the point about customer service. I work in the customer service field in management with face to face interaction with the public everyday.

Companies are constantly looking for ways to cut expenses and unfortunately payroll is an easy alternative. With the advent of TITO machines, the need for CSR's on the floor has been greatly diminished. I guess we all forgot the good old days of waiting for a hopper fill or fixing a hopper jam. How about the change person with the little cart? Looking for buckets or racks for coins? These all went away with the TITO system. Personally I enjoy the visceral feel of filling the bucket and the racks of dollar tokens. It was dirty yes, but more involved.

What was said about waiting for a "hopper jam" now a days is just progress. Just like waiting for the same thing but with coins before. One thing I like about TITO is when you get a jackpot of $1000 on quarters and anything over $400 on dollars that you didn't have to wait for a handpay. I guess we all liked to wait for that.

In the overall picture, yes, maybe Sam's Town needs to relook at what made them famous and adjust the amount of floor coverage. But, think of it this way. If the trend is to eliminate full pay machines that players play on exclusively and put more staff on the floor, then what do you think what type of machine will be replaced first to counteract this? Do you honestly think they will add more full pay machines or will they just continue the trend of adding more penny games or lower % video poker?

I gotta laugh at the statement that says I graduated from the Dale Carnegie Institute at the top of my class and that the 5 companies I worked for mysteriously went belly up after I left them. Welcome to the real world where if we polled every member of this forum, we would find out many of our past employers have went out of business. It's a fact of life and business. Talking about DGI makes it sounds like an elitist statement.

I assume the reset was to $250? Nice find. When casinos take down a progressive bank, they have to move the progressives to another machine to comply with state law, so this kind of thing is actually somewhat common and shows the value of scouting. In addition, casinos sometimes "sweeten the pot" as a promotion to get more people to gamble.

Re: [vpFREE] Zero Cust.. Ser. at Sam's Town LV

The Boyd casinos as a whole represent some of the best and nicest places to enjoy video poker and gambling in general in all of Vegas, in all of the country. The original poster not only spoke of alleged "poor service" but he also suggested people ("tourists") take their business elsewhere if they don't like "poor service". Meanwhile, Boyd has been very good to him over the years. And I am sure he is not going to voluntarily leave for the destinations with poor gambling choices. The Boyd casinos are great places to stay and play. Contrary to the original poster's grumbling, I would encourage tourists to try Boyd casinos if they haven't already. That includes Sam's Town, one of my all time favorites.

Thank you to the original poster for the info on the poor customer service at Sams Town.

It is a problem thru out the Boyd casinos as management has decided to squeeze out expenses rather than grow the top line. This has been evident in the last few quaterly reports from the company.

Okay, I do not understand why someone who made a boat load of money plays 4 hours a day 20 days a month for a free buffet? Also, I am thinking if they are playing those 80 hours a month at Sams, what are they playing at Stations for their free buffet? Shouldn't you be doing something else with your life if you are in your 40's?
