It took two days but I got in touch with "exotic vacations" and was able to book this deal. The only thing that changed is that instead of the massage( to many people got this deal , so they can't give the message)they are giving a $100 food credit.

Bottom line---the deal looks legit and is not a time share

[vpFREE] Re: W2G
Although the "limit of 30" wasn't involved, we kicked this issue around not too long ago. At that time at least a few of us suggested including one (and only one) aggregate W2G per casino when e-filing. I still think that's the way to go.

Furthermore, I question the need for attaching/including individual W2G's when withholding is involved. Simply summarize the withholding from however many W2G's you've combined. I'm fairly certain underreporting of withholding is NOT one of the IRS's bigger concerns.

[vpFREE] Re: ACE card tier points
Just got a mailer from Aquarius regarding the new ACE|play card.
Looks like the new system started March 20.

Under the prior system, from what I can determine about 440 points gives
1 tier point and 220 points gives 1 comp dollar.
Wife has blue card with 1024 points, 2.3 tier points, and $4.67 comp
 dollars.

Since they are going to just points that can be converted to various $
 this may change.
Keep in mind that for VP, $2 = 1 point on most machines and $8 = 1 point
 on the Optimum Play machines.

 Now:
 600 points = $1 cash
 500 points = $1 slot play
 300 points = $1 Comp

I would be interested in what others find out after the March 20 start
date comparing points and tier points?
Does the tier multipliers: 2X orange, 3X green, 4X red affect the tier
rate? Or does tier points depend just on coin in?

The answer depends on what and how much you play. But in
general out-of-towners have mentioned here that they like
South Point, Four Queens and the Boyd properties, especially
Main Street Station, Sam's Town, Orleans and Gold Coast.
Some of these may require a few visits to get established
 and start getting good offers.

Re: [vpFREE] Re: W2G
We don't e-file but the way we handle our W-2G's is to put the one big total in the proper place on the main return (that depends on whether you file as a recreational gambler or file a Schedule C as a professional one) and then attach a list to the return. We used to list each W-2G on that attachment, but now we combine all the W-2G's from one casino. So then our list is by casino totals.

However, you can never be sure what is the best way. The IRS has a way of losing attachments. We have had them question us (in a letter audit) and we had to send the list a second time.

A ROUGH estimate in my experience is about 1 point for every 1,000 coin in on good VP.

A ROUGH estimate in my experience is about 1 point for every 1,000 coin in on good VP.

[vpFREE] Trump Plaza AC
Yesterday's visit was very disappointing. Most of the playable machines have had reductions in their pay schedules. I scouted all that were not being played and found only two machines with 9/6 JOB, 9/7 DB and 9/6 DDB. They will probably not remain since I saw slot techs looking at them too.

Looks like AC is quickly a place that I will no longer visit. Why drive two hours for machines I can find at PARX which is 10 minutes away.

The IRS help line is notorious for giving out misinformation.

You will put the total under line 21, "other income," regardless of whether
you e-file, paper file, use tax software, use an accountant, or do your
taxes by hand. That's the only possible place to put them. The only question
is whether you believe the tax software when it tells you you can't e-file
 with more than 30 W-2Gs.

I still use WinPoker, and it works pretty good on Linux(Ubuntu and Mint), with WINE. The most recent versions of WINE work a lot better than a couple years ago. I too have not been able to get Video Poker for Winners to work with it. So for that, and a couple other tasks, I still have to keep Windows on a small partition and dual boot.

Oh - thanks Don. I thought you were saying you put it as a total just as "miscellaneous"....
And I do know that you don't have to file the hard copies of the W2G's....

However I have to say again that the IRS themselves told me yesterday that for some reason now there is a limit of 30 W2G's to e-file.
I'm really tempted to put the total under miscellaneous as you do.

[vpFREE] Frugal/Wolf Video Poker for Mac/Linux!
(i decided to try this out the other day... and hey, it worked!)

i'm pleased to report that Frugal Video Poker and Wolf Video Poker run
perfectly using the WINE compatibility layer. this means that they can be
used within Mac OS X, Linux, BSD, Solaris, and any other platform which
supports WINE. no copy of Microsoft Windows is required.

this is really good news for any VP player who doesn't run Windows. Wolf VP
is arguably the most powerful VP software on the market, and Frugal VP is
by far the best free VP software out there. more options are always good.

personally, i do have a Windows virtual machine on my MacBook... but the
less that i have to use it, the happier i am. not having to launch it every
time i want to analyze a new game or put in some practice will make me
 happy indeed.

installing WINE should be trivial for most Linux users, as it's bundled
with most distributions. on the Mac it has to be compiled from source using
the MacPorts system, which is a longer process, but it should be very easy
for anyone who's touched Terminal or a Unix command line before. if you
haven't... well, it looks easy to me, but i don't know how it'd look to
someone with less experience. the tutorial is clear and detailed.
