[vpFREE] Frugal/Wolf Video Poker for Mac/Linux!

(i decided to try this out the other day... and hey, it worked!)

i'm pleased to report that Frugal Video Poker and Wolf Video Poker run
perfectly using the WINE compatibility layer. this means that they can be
used within Mac OS X, Linux, BSD, Solaris, and any other platform which
supports WINE. no copy of Microsoft Windows is required.

this is really good news for any VP player who doesn't run Windows. Wolf VP
is arguably the most powerful VP software on the market, and Frugal VP is
by far the best free VP software out there. more options are always good.

personally, i do have a Windows virtual machine on my MacBook... but the
less that i have to use it, the happier i am. not having to launch it every
time i want to analyze a new game or put in some practice will make me
happy indeed.

installing WINE should be trivial for most Linux users, as it's bundled
with most distributions. on the Mac it has to be compiled from source using
the MacPorts system, which is a longer process, but it should be very easy
for anyone who's touched Terminal or a Unix command line before. if you
haven't... well, it looks easy to me, but i don't know how it'd look to
someone with less experience. the tutorial is clear and detailed.

for what it's worth, i also tried running Video Poker for Winners using
WINE, but it crashed on startup. if there's a way to make it work, i'd love
to hear about it.

cheers,

five
