If I am down a large portion of my session bankroll, I might switch
to a higher-volatility game in an attempt to "make up my losses",
but keep the denomination the same. Moving up in denomination just
seems to accelerate my demise.

The trouble is, the choices aren't between equivalent EV games. If I
was getting smoked at NSUD, perhaps I could find a 10/7 DB game;
perhaps not. Likewise, if I were playing FPDW, any change in game--
except to FPJW--would be a drastic cut in % EV--I would have to drop
down to DB or 10/6 DDB.

I've hit so often on my last few credits, though, that I am still
inclined to play the entire session bankroll down to zero on the
same game.

Re: [vpFREE] Their getting viscious in Reno

We will be at Harrah's Reno soon. Who is a good host there as we have never stayed there before? Where are the good places to gamble...eat...shows? Thanks:)

mickeycrimm <mickeycrimm@yahoo.com> wrote: I just received some information on goings on in Reno. I don't have
full details yet but apparently Atlantis and Peppermill have been
getting viscious with local pros.

It has something to do with free play promotions. Apparently, both
properties are 86ing local pros with a vengeance.

And it appears they are flyering each other too. Get 86ed from one,
walk in the door of the other and get 86ed. I've known people to get
their cards pulled but this is the first I've ever heard of mass 86ing.

I don't think out-of-towners have to worry. It's probably just a local
thing.

[vpFREE] Denomination vs Variance vs Gains/Losses

With any given bankroll, what are your thoughts on playing higher
denominations on lower variance games? For example, given bankroll X, play
$0.50 DDB, but switch to BP if you move up to $1. Is there any validity to
this?

What about switching denomination as a "last ditch effort" to make up
losses. For example, you've been playing $0.50 DDB and exhausted $800 of
your $1000 bankroll for that day's play. What are your thoughts on moving
up to $1 or $2 in hopes of hitting quad and making up most of your losses,
of course whilst also realising that you might loose your last $200 really
quickly if you don't get lucky?

Finally, do any of you switch games depending on how well or poorly a
session is going? For example, maybe after gaining $500 playing JOB, switch
to DDB in hopes of further increasing your gains using your $500 profit as
your new bankroll for the higher risk game? Or, after losing $500 playing
JOB, switch to DDB in hopes of getting lucky and making up that loss more
quickly? Or, after getting lucky early playing DDB and winning $500, switch
to BP or JOB to play a bit longer but with less of the risk of a high
variance game?

Or, should we just stick to one game, one denomination, and play it
throughout the entire session...come what may?

I'd be interested to hear your opinions on any of these lines of thought.

[vpFREE] Million Dollar Video Poker Jackpot on Hold

Many people that know me know that I have a patent on multi-line video
poker. I pitched IGT the opportunity where a player could get
$1,000,000 jackpot if they hit so many number of royal flushes on the
draw (you can't flop royal flushes in my game as is the case for the
Moody patent).

IGT came back and said the math works but they have little interest in
such a game. Well, I tried to give video poker players the same
opportunity as megabuck jackpots. For those that are curious, the math
can support jackpots to as high as $30 millions, if not more.

Reminds me of a situation that occurred at the Westin Casuarina a few years
ago. New slot club sign ups were getting $60 free play for $30. A certain
segment of the local AP crowd here was actually bringing in carloads of
homeless people that they would pick up down on Foremaster Lane, and sign
them up. Quite a spectacle to see. Amazing the lengths that some will go to
for a buck.

[vpFREE] (Fwd) Sunset Station Update

Private email to vpFae:

********************************

Just returned from a 3 day trip to Sunset and have one update to
the database.

5 new Optimum Slant tops have been installed in front of the
entrance to Sonoma Cellar. Brings the total # of machines to
8+6+5=19.

They have the same games and pay schedules as the other Optimums
at Sunset (less the OEJ, only the machines near Hooter's have
that game).

Also, contrary to what has been rumored/reported, the Optimums
were still awarding 1pt/$2 CI, not the $4 CI that has been
bandied about. Maybe a change to $4 CI will still occur at a
later date and Station Casinos just didn't want it said that a
St. Valentine's Day Massacre occurred by halving the points.

Re: [vpFREE] Their getting viscious in Reno

Its not just a local's thing. Both Pepper and ATL welcome AP's with open
arms as long as they are "LOSING" AP's. Once the double whammy of winning
and AP is placed on you , you are Persona non-grata! I have stopped
receiving all offers from the Pepper ( beat them too much, too consistent
over last 3 years ) , but still very welcome at Atlantis ( where slightly
below even ). I personally know a big time non local ATL AP who was told by
the slot director "Your too good for us, your welcome to play, but raw
machine play only - no benefits will accrue".

I was thinking about what would cause the massacre while waiting for
my pot roast dinner at Perkins. I think I'm beginning to see the
picture. I haven't been to Reno in awhile, but. Knowing some of
those involved and how strong they are and speculating about the
promotion involved I'm gonna take a wild guess as to what the
scenario was.

Let's say you are a long time Reno resident and a sharp gambler.
Brand X Casino makes a mass mailing to local slot club members. And
let's say they are offering $300 in freeplay for $15,000 coin-in.

You just happen to know that they have a 100% game with extremely low
variance. You can run the action in a few hours. How would you
handle the play? Just go in and run the action, right? Then pick up
the freeplay, right?

But what about your wife? She got the offer too. But she doesn't
know how to play the game. So you play it off for her. She picks up
the freeplay.

But what about your sister? She got the offer too. But she doesn't
know how to play the game either. So you play it off for her and she
picks up the freeplay. Of course you are getting your cut.

And what about your brother? And your mother? And your father? And
your mother-in-law? And your father-in-law? And your sister-in-
law? And your brother-in-law? And all your friends too numerous to
mention?

I would say it's the most likely reason for all the sour grapes on
South Virginia.

[vpFREE] Re: VPW version info

BL and HP, I have been lobbying with Mr. Dancer to try and get the web
site to at least show the latest version. He said he was going to
contact them.

Meanwhile, I published my post to help those who may not have the
latest installed.

I downloaded the prgram as if I was going to do a free trial, then I
went to the support page which in the FAQ has a link to submitting your
email address and what was your latest activation code. Apparently if
both match, they send you a new activation code which you type/paste
into the proper box and hit continue.

I have upgraded without cost several times this way, also when I have
had to reinstall Vista or when I get a new computer. Very
cooperative, but a little hard to find the steps to do so.

I have no idea as to what it does to existing saves.

And yes, the web page could be more helpful in that aspect.

and the guy next to me kept blowing smoke in my face on purpose to get
me to leave. I did leave, and his buddy was just waiting for that to
happen. I don't complain about this type of behavior, but I know others
do. The usual way to handle this is to shut down a great play. It looks
like they are trying a different tactic. Why would management want
them in their casino?

According to a friend who gave me a brief report the Atlantis play was
a $100+ an hour play. He didn't have time to tell me what they were
doing at the Pepp. Both properties have been hammered numerous times
in the past. But managements modus operandi was to just pull the
play. Sometimes if a pro took to much advantae they would pull his
card. But mass 86ing begins a new era in Reno.
