Looking through My old files I found a post that I made on this board on 2-2-05. Nobody answered my post and I have not looked at this game since.

It was brought to my attention that my analysis of Shockwave was different from the Wizard of Odds site. A few months ago this game was discussed on this board. I reviewed those posts and found that mine did not agree with them either. I would appreciate having someone repeat what I have done and critique my analysis.
I found that playing the base game using the strategy for the same game with an increased quad lowered the ER, but the shorter quad cycle increased the final ER. I concluded that adding 18.6426 to the quad produced the highest ER for the 12/8/5 pay schedule. Adding or subtracting from this number on other pay schedules added .004% or less so I stayed with one quad number.

Here is my evaluation.
(#1) The base game for the 25/12/8/5 pay schedule has an ER of 95.2373%
(#2) Shockwave mode for the 800/12/8/5 pay schedule has an ER of 289.9961%
(#3) Game with 43.6426/12-8-5 pay schedule has an ER of 99.5115%.

Play game #1 using game #3 strategy.
Playing game #1 using strategy #3 has an ER of 95.2321% and a quad cycle of 435.622

Multiply ER * quad cycle
(95.2321 * 435.622) = 41485.1979

Add 41485.1979 + ER of Shockwave mode * 10.
41485.1979 + (289.9961*10) = 44385.1589

Divide 44385.1589 by quad cycle +10
44385.1589/(435.622+10) = 99.6027% ER

There might be another consideration how many more hands can you play before you're no longer in shockwave mode? Should not have much of an effect.

I don't think I've ever seen a strategy specifically for Shockwave video poker. I usually use the Wizard of Odds Strategy Maker.



Anyone know where to find strategy for FP shockwave.  Obviosly there wud be 2 sides in & out of shockwave mode.  I can't find any on web or sites I frequent.  I think I can make one relatively easily, but why wud I id it's available out there.

[vpFREE] Shockwave strategy

 

Peter - you are correct, the pay table doesn't change so if you were able to play until you got a 4k in order to maximize your expectation you would play the strategy with 4k breaking even until you hit your 4K. This would maximize your expectation during shockwave mode. The difference is minimal. Clearly during non-shockwave you would never change your strategy.

The pay table doesn't change based on how many hands are remaining in
Shockwave mode, does it?
